I purchased this unit earlier in the year and placed it away for this winter. Since we just got hit with the first winter vortex of 2014 I was very excited to hook it up and begin heating my garage. Previously I had seen two videos on Youtube raving about how great the unit is and I was very excited to try mine out. Lets just say that for the first 10 minutes it worked like a charm. It heated up quickly and blew alot of heat. Boy was I excited. I did read the sticker at the top of the unit stating that the unit should not be left unattended and it was for commercial use only and to be aware of potential fire hazards. I took all appropriate cautions. Around 12 minutes into using the unit, a loud screaching noise came from the fan motor which immediately stopped working and the unit became scary hot. Good thing I did not leave it unattended or I am sure there would have been a fire! I am pretty upset right now but fortunately still have my Edenpure heater as a back up. I am also happy that I purchased the extended warranty. I would look elsewhere for another heater, this unit left me high and dry.........Grade: F - See notes below regarding updated comments. Update: Earlier this week I had the opportunity to speak with Mireya in Customer Support at NewAir. She was very helpful in guiding me in both the return process for this unit as well as sending out a replacement unit. I truly hope the new unit works better than the last one. While disappointed with my last unit, I must admit how happy I am with the excellent customer support I did in fact receive from Mireya. Had it not been for her, I probably would have just asked for my money back and purchased a competitor's unit elsewhere. Thanks Mireya, you do a great job! Second Update: I have now had my new replacement unit for almost one week and I am extremely satisfied with it. It heats up my garage instantly and suffers none of the quality control issues I had with my last one. I can only assume that my last one was defective and not representative of the rest of this product line. I can now say confidently that I would support purchasing this unit again and I am very happy with it. This unit does an excellent job of generating heat in either steady on mode or cycling on and off. It does get rather hot however when cycling as the fan stops and the body heats up. Play close attention to all factory stickers and do not leave unattended for long periods of time, in other words, treat it with respect and caution as you would any item that generates this kind of heat. ... show more

  • Honest Redneck Review
We've got a big doublewide trailer house. We plugged these in where 2 windur unit air conditioners are usually plugged. If somebody don't get up in time and let's the fire go out in our wood burning stove, they heat a large area up in minutes. The Queen of our Doublewide trailer really likes them. Since our clothes dryer is broke down, she hangs clothes around 'em to dry. If I had a complaint, it would be that the thermostat is a little picky to get set right. ... show more

  • The plug is a issue.
This is not a standard plug for 220, had to cut and wire a different on. That being said, it works great and puts a lot of heat off.

  • So far so good...
Here is my situation: I love in northern MN. It gets COLD. I have a 30x60 uninsulated garage/pole barn with 15+ ceilings and a cement floor. I made a "bubble" work area 400 sq.ft (20x20x9) using 4mil plastic within the garage. The heater arrived quickly and in good shape. I already had a 50amp circuit but downsized that to a 30amp and attached the correct female receptacle to fit the unit. Very simply. I have been impressed with this little heater. I do not find it to be too loud, considering it is made for a garage setting. Some days the temps were in the negatives with windchills in the -20's and in my "bubble" the temp was at least 30 deg. I have recently put studs and insulation between joists at 9ft for the ceiling. This has really helped. The outside temps are in the 20's but "bubble" is in the 50-60 range. I have not used any other garage heater so I have nothing to compare too. I do not run this thing all day/night. For the most part, I run it a few hours before I plan to "work" in the "bubble" and the temps has risen to a workable level for me (35 deg +). Remember, my "bubble" is simply within my garage, no insulation (except ceiling) and is definitely not air tight. I have only had this for about 2 weeks but I have been satisfied for my application. I will update this post in the future as I use it more, insulate the room, and receive an electric bill. I would recommend this product, but I would probably recommend the similar RED heater for $30 less. I read the product info wrong on the RED one and purchased this unit instead. Either way, it is doing what I need. UPDATE: (3/25/13) I have had this unit a little over a month. I have taken down the "bubble" mentioned in the last email and finished off half of the garage. The area is now approx. 30x30 (900 SQFT). The area is insulated with rigid foam board (R6 in walls - R4 board and R11 fiberglass insulation in ceiling - ceilings are 9ft). My point is that the insulation is NOT GREAT. The heater is able to heat the entire area about 40 deg warmer than the outside temp. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test this heater when the temps were below zero with the area being insulated. This heater is stated to heat an area 500 sq feet but my area is almost 900 sq ft and it does the job to take the chill out of the area (even with a cement floor). Two of these heaters would EASILY heat my area to any temp (70 deg) no matter what the temp is outside. Remember, I live in a COLD area. I would still recommend this unit. I don't know exactly how much my electric bill went up but it did go up (not an outrageous amount). The only thing I would like to change on this unit would be when you turn it off - the fan stops running but the area around the unit is still hot as it cools off - could be dangerous if you are not in the room - I suspect all heaters are similar to this though. Update (10/10/15) I will have to dock this unit several stars. After using it very sparingly, one day when I walked into my workout room (9x9) the room was filled with smoke. The unit had failed and no longer works. Very disappointed as I didn't have this for very long nor did I use it much. Not worth the price at all. I'm going to purchase the same type of heater (red one) for $60 less and see how it works. No go on this one! ... show more
