works great for me. I did alot of research online before settling on this unit. I needed something that was large enough to heat and cool a 2car garage. I purchased this to cool my two car garage which has a pool table, darts, and TV in it. Of course, during a hot summer day 100 degrees outside, I'm not expecting it to get very cool, but it keeps the garage around 82-85. In the evenings, it works great, keeps the temp at 78. On days when its cooler outside, like in the 80's, it has no problem keeping the room cool. I've only used the heater once, and it worked ok. Outside was in the 50's, and it kept the room in the 70's. I vented this through the outside wall. Also, this summer our house A/C broke and we were without air conditioning for three days waiting on parts. Luckily it was only in the 90's outside. We moved this portable unit to our master bedroom and vented out the window and it worked great to keep our room a chilly 76 while the rest of the house was 90. We ordered this air conditioner during a CA heat wave and it arrived in two days since I signed up for Amazon Prime. Works nicely to cool our about 200 SQ FT bedroom down. Down side it is a little loud and the three speeds all are very similar which is high speed. I have used the heating option once and do like the idea of heating the room up quickly. Down side on heating is it takes a few minutes to heat up and it's a bit loud. Overall I would recommend this unit. I looked at many different units a read allot of reviews before ordering New Air. Lots of horror stories of draining water, I have not ever had to drain the water on this unit yet but did read in very humid conditions it may be necessary. ... show more

I thought I was buying a great unit in 2022 worked great.. In 2023 unit would not cool below 73 degrees , 13 months later.. Now fighting to return.. Liked the unit, so thought I would buy another one..Thought I was going to be happy. NOT !!! 2 days later the new unit same problem ..Cycles off at 70 degrees and will not cool to the 62 degrees I set it at.. Very dissatisfied with Newair. Installed this unit in my 2-car garage. Was a little concerned that the room would be too large to cool, but my garage is north-facing and is insulated so I gave it a shot. I was pleased that this thing actually drops the temperature a good 5 degrees per hour. I installed a permanent vent and drain through the wall, as I did not want to empty a water tank every day and had no stationary window. Having the exhaust hose exit straight through the wall actually helps with efficiency, too. So far, very happy with this purchase! ... show more

    • Does not cool very well

I did not try the heat function but was not very pleased with the cooling function. I set the thermostat function for 69. The current temp in the room was reading 80 degrees. I let the machine start to run, closed the bedroom door, and checked back in an hour. It had only gone down to 78 and the fan speed had already slowed. I turned it off and then turned it back on and reset it again to 69. I let it run all night and when I checked it the next morning it still only got down to 72 degrees. I have a similar sized LG machine in another larger room and it will cool the room down in 15-30 minutes. Although I did find this one to be slightly quieter than the LG, I would rather it be a little louder and be more productive in getting it to cool. Also the attachment to the hose is a little tricky. With the LG, the attachment brackets on the hose between the window kit and the machine spins freely around the hose itself so you can hook the outside vent hose up directly to the machine very easily. With this machine the hose attaches like a screw. The whole hose has to rotate to screw it into the back of the machine. This is a problem because the other end of the hose screws into the window kit as well, the opposite way. So as you start to screw the hose into the machine it gets unscrewed from the window kit....confused yet? It just really annoying because you have to basically attach the window kit, then spin the hose and the entire window kit into the back of the machine before placing the window kit in the window. ... show more

This is the second portable AC of this size I have purchased. It cools well so overall I am happy. The draw back is the drain. I find this to be an issue with this type of product. While it states you will not need to empty it, on humid days you will have to. The drain is so close to the floor that you need to put something under the AC to bring it up so you can get a pan underneath it, especially on carpet. This is true with the other model I have as well. What I really don't like is that this one has a two plug system so you must remove a plastic plug then a rubber stopper in order to drain the unit. The rubber stopper is almost impossible to get in and out as it so tight so your really struggle with this. I tried leaving the rubber piece out and just using the plastic piece but then it leaks all the time. ... show more

I have been very pleased with my portable air conditioner. I did lots of research and finally decided on this unit. Just as a precaution, I ordered a unit with cooling capacity a size larger than I thought I needed and it has performed well. The unit arrived on the date that it was promosed and it was hooked-up and running within the hour. This unit cools quickly so remember that in high humid locations there will be lots of condensation; the water reservoir will need to be dumped often until the humidity in the room is lowered. ... show more
