Top Amazon Reviews

  • $1000 boat anchor
Color: Silver
This review reflects my experience with Amazon, NewAir, NewLeafSC and Assurant. The various roles in this tale are as follows: Amazon is the seller. NewAir is the manufacturer. New Leaf SC is the manufacturers warranty representative. Assurant is the extended warranty provider (if you choose the extended warranty option.) Ordering and Receiving the Unit: This experience is very much like every other Amazon experience. Instead of UPS, they schedule delivery via a truck. Ordering, delivering, packaging. All pretty much like you'd expect. Unboxing and Installing Unit: The unit is attractive and functional. Adjustable shelves. Nice lights inside. Temperature control on either half of the unit. Digital display. Pretty nice looking. Dimensions were as advertised. Fit perfectly as a built in/under counter unit. Operation of the Unit: After 35 days of operation, the unit started to make a loud click noise and buzz every 3-5 minutes. After doing some research online, I found that the extremely low quality chinese compressor that comes on this unit was more than likely defective. New Air provides several slips of paper in their packing/instruction materials about calling their support line or emailing them. I decided that since I had passed the 30 day return policy with Amazon, I was going to pursue this path. I called into NewAir. After some brief troubleshooting with a technician, they informed me that I needed to call New Leaf SC, their warranty provider. I called into NewLeaf SC. Calling queues were high. Asked for a call back. They never called me back. Emailed them my information. They never responded to that either. Called them again a day later. Got someone who informed me that I needed to get a 15 digit number from Amazon to file a claim for service. Chatted with Amazon. Amazon was confused. Amazon made a call to New Air. New Air gets back to me three days later. New Air is confused. Needs me to email my paperwork again. New Leaf is now on the scene. They need my paperwork again. (I didn't even mention that I had called Assurant in the meantime and they tell me that their warranty service doesn't kick in for a year after the manufacturer's warranty. They won't even address it.) New Leaf calls me back today (after messing around this this for over 3 weeks. They tell me that they have a local repair service (Chicago area) called AAA appliance who will contact me to come and service the unit. I was finally pleased. I could possibly use this $1000 boat anchor. This was all until 30 minutes ago when New Leaf called again and told me that AAA would not come service the unit and someone would be calling me back from New Leaf SC to "work something out". Conclusion: This NewAir company has some real issues. Their service "partner" has some real issues. This is a very expensive mistake. Don't do what I did. UPDATE: 12/6/2017 - After playing all sorts of games, I received a new unit and installed. New Air at least paid for pre-paid FedEx shipment of the old unit back. New unit has been installed now for 2 weeks. I'm beginning to hear a "click" noise every so often, but no buzz yet. Let's see if this will be my final fridge or if there will be yet another swap. Rating remains at one star. ... show more

  • Very happy with purchase of french door NewAir beverage center
Color: Silver
We just purchased this beverage center for our newly remodeled kitchen. We wanted the extra refrigeration to complement a counter depth refrigerator in our kitchen. As we scanned previous reviews, we noticed that some people complained that this model was noisy but otherwise a good pick. Well, we have really enjoyed this product. First, the convenience of having the french doors has made it fun for our younger children, as half of the beverage center holds wine and beer for the adults, while the other half holds waters, juices and other products that are easily accessible for our kids. I like the choice of locking the "adult" side of the beverage center, as it has a lock for each door. The shelves are movable, which helps to accommodate different bottle and container sizes. At nighttime, we have activated the inside blue lighting of the beverage center which makes it look really cool! Also, the unit slid perfectly under our counter top in our kitchen island. We had originally considered a GE Monogram beverage center, but we went against it for two reasons: one, the GE Monogram beverage center costs approximately $1800.00, which would have matched the make and model of our other appliances. However, since we opted to go with professional cook style models, the GE Monogram only came in the Euro style handle, which would not match our appliances. The NewAir had a more similar style to our appliances and costs about half the price of the GE Monogram beverage center. Once in place, the NewAir beverage center matches well with our appliances and looks great for a great price. We absolutely love it. By the way, as far as it being loud and/or noisy....we can hear the unit kick on and working, but the sound is negligible...it doesn't bother us at all. ... show more

  • Less Expensive Than Equivalents
Color: Silver
Wine coolers and beverages centers are disposable items. They will konk out in about two-three years (right at about the warranty date), so why spend $1500 on a "boat anchor" when you can get one for under a grand? This is our third in ten years (all different brands), so you do the math and draw your own conclusions about durability. Pros - Great packaging. UPS delivered it to one of their local stores and stored it upside down, but nothing broke and it ran just fine after letting it sit upright for a day. - It's not as noisy as some people say. No louder than the other two we had. - It stores beverages at below room temperature. Truth in advertising. - The weatherstripping is pretty heavy-duty so the chambers seal nicely. - full case of soft drinks fits in left side. - alternating direction of wine cradles on wire racks is nice. Cons - Not particularly "sexy." The wire racks are not very refined, especially at the exposed end that you can see through the doors. If you pay another $500 there are other models out there with wood trim on the racks. - Not a "con" really, but it is a scosche bigger than some of the other models. Read dimensions and measure carefully, especially if you intend to use it as a "built in" as we do. ... show more

  • Died after 16 months
Color: Silver
Mine died after 16 months of use. The unit is on but the temperature is basically the temperature of the room. I purchased the extended warranty due to some of the negative reviews. I was provided with a digital Amazon gift card for the full price minus taxes and the cost of the warranty. So for 16 months of use I'm out of about $80. If you going to buy this, buy the warranty. I will be buying another brand to replace this one. ... show more

  • No problems in almost 5 years!
Color: Silver
We bought one of these when we were building our new home almost 5 years ago. It has run great since. Temp settings go back to default after a power outage, but easy to reset. A coil was vibrating against the drip pan, but I was able to put a spacer between to stop that noise. Otherwise, flawless! (He says, hoping to not jinx it.) ... show more
