  • Best of what I've tred
It works well. Just occasionally I need to unplug it to reset it.

  • Great little media player
It works great with a 2Tb USB portable SSD (Sandisk Extreme in my case) and it handles all my 1080P .mkv files with subtitle control.

  • not the worst, but certainly not the best - audio video sync problems
I bought one of these for my camper, so I can add some movies on a SD card and watch them. The UI is not bad, actually once you get used to it, it's pretty simple. The problems are: - Not all videos (all of mine are in the same file format, ripped with the same tool) can't be played, the UI shows an error. To make sure all videos are being able to be played you would need to test them all. - Massive audio/video sync problems, especially after when you resume a video. Sometimes even after 30-40% of the video is played, the sync issues will start. No way to recover. - Fast Forward option is not working for the full movie. Just about for the first 30% of the movie, then it either throws an error, or the software dies. - audio volume is bad. Somehow the device takes over the volume control of the TV. I tested with two Roku TVs, after playing a video file, the audio control of the TV is no longer working, only the volume control of the device is working. However, I had several cases where the audio is not loud enough. ... show more

  • A couple of annoying issues but very capable
This unit is hooked to an older Sharp Aquos flatscreen to run blu-ray copies of movies I own from a usb flash drive and also a huge 12TB WD external hard drive, both formatted to ExFat on my mac. They work. But. . . There is a noticeable lag between the video and the audio. This is likely not an issue with the unit and is a problem with bluetooth audio lag. Mostly I don't notice it, but if there is anything that needs to be synced it become annoying, like scene with someone slapping the table or shooting a firearm. The best thing about this unit is that it will read the entire external HD of 12TB. My Samsung tv will only read a portion of the HD. Funny. It only reads the three oldest folders. Size of files or number of files in each folder doesn’t seem to be the issue. Once the Neumi unit is hooked up to the Samsung tv, the entire HD is read. Just got to give the Neumi time to read the HD. It takes about 2-3min to read 8TB of files. While it is doing this, the tv will not recognize the hookup. If it still doesn’t read the HD, turn off the Neumi and turn it back on. This seems to help the Samsung recognize the HDMI signal. The remote is what needs some work. It's very weak or something. I have to make sure I am close enough and pointing it correctly to be received by the unit. I think it uses IR. It's frustrating having to click it over and over again while angling it differently on each click. Funny thing is remotes for other devices all seem to hit the unit, as I can see the red light turn to green then go back to red. So it's not the base unit that is bad. It's the damn remote! I just did a search for "remote" on this item and the number of complaints on this issue is HUGE! Beef up the remote and you would have a nice system. Annoying issues. . . but other than that it works. ... show more

  • Does what it says, works without any trouble at all.
I was a little doubtful about this product because of some of the negative reviews, but decided to try it out anyway. I needed something like this because although my Samsung TV is supposed to be able to play MP4 files off a USB stick, it doesn't work too well, and sometimes just trashes (erases & reformats) the drive. And I desperately wanted to play some very precious old home movies stored as MP4, so this product looked like a viable option. I was expecting more difficulty than I had, tbh. I unpacked the item, read the instructions about updating the firmware, and followed them (after connecting to power & TV, obviously). Firmware update went without a hitch (make sure you're downloading the right firmware!!). Then I plugged in a small USB stick with some test videos, and read the manual about the controls (for example, pause/resume using the OK button). Zero problems so far, and I hadn't spent that much time on the whole thing. After that I was ready to roll. I was able to walk through my folder hierarchy, scroll through the file list, and play what I wanted. I set up the auto-resume in the settings (I think it's the default), and adjusted the screen zoom to make sure the entire picture was in the frame. That was it. So based on my experience, I have no trouble recommending this product. Read the manuals carefully (they are pretty clear, despite the reviews that claim they're not), and follow the instructions exactly (they're not complicated). Enjoy your success. If for some reason you have trouble, even after doing everything by the book, it's possible you got a bad one -- it happens. I would suggest first trying out a replacement (since Amazon makes that super-easy) before concluding the product is bad. ... show more
