  • Drops WiFi 2-3 times day, Locks Up Every 2 Days
Owning this R7000 model is like having a 2nd job as an IT professional. This thing constantly goes down and has issues. As of 8/20/21, the latest firmware is: 1.0.11.126 This firmware supports all the bells & whistles and a stupid pay service called "Armor." I pity anyone that pays for this. If they do, I have some magic jelly beans I'd like to sell them. A few times a day the WiFi just stops working for 5-10 seconds but it does eventually come back. This is a huge problem on conference calls. Then about every 2 days the router just completely locks up. I have to power it down, wait about 10 seconds, and then power it back up. I did roll back the firmware to 1.0.9.42, as suggested by various forums, and this is a MUCH more stable version for WiFi functionality. All of the features in the Nighthawk app are not supported (I dont care) but the ReadyShare Printer didnt work which is a deal breaker for me. I should not have to roll back firmware to get something that works. This is a clear indicator that Netgear has really, really poor quality control on their firmware releases and I'd dread the day when they release new versions. I would NOT recommend this router if you need a reliable internet connection and work from home. ... show more

  • This thing is crap
Once again, this router can NOT be used as a print server. The product description says you can plug a USB printer to it. The website gives downloads for the print server function. But you actuarial can't. It's for NAS only. I am gong back and forth for 12 min or so until the "technical expert" puts me on holds then tells the model can't usb print. i had to provide the device serial number, proof of purchase and all just to get support in the first place. The router is huge and hideous and I think my wifi is dropping. I say that because i steam tv and I frequently get "no internet", which didn't happen with my little cheapo $26 belkin router from Walmart. Sooo i just spent another $38 for a used Bellingham print server fun ebay. Also the seller in this from could have at least reset the router. I was afraid I couldn't use it. I ended up holding the reset down for a solid two minutes and watching all the lights flash several times before it would finally factory reset. Oh and I'll add the user interface website, the navigation and the actual page the navigation loads has separate scrollbars that only sits up with you hover. Many of the links also take you to broken pages or the incorrect page on the netgear website. Another point that sucks on this router. It has a button to turn it off and on. Squeezed bergen the power supply and the USB port. So if you plug a drive into the back USB, if you don't mind how you are plugging it in you will depress the power button and turn the damn thing off. And it takes a good 2~3min to boot back up. ... show more

  • Goes offline every single day.
Seems like a great router so far except for one problem.....It just goes offline from the internet connection once a day every single day. I have tried various things and it is definitely the router. I have tried 3 different versions of firmware including the most recent, and the issue persists. Netgear support says "try updating the firmware" and when I tell them I have they kind of shrug. Update: Its been a month. The problem has escalated to going offline 5 times a day. This is extremely inconvenient and has been affecting my ability to work remotely. I will be buying a more reliable device and throwing this piece of junk out.....and never buying Netgear again. ... show more

  • Save your money
This product was highly recommended to me from a friend. We are a gaming family, I work from home and my daughter was doing home study due to her school being shut down per COVID procedures. The nighthawk is highly unreliable even with troubleshooting. It was constantly going offline and had terrible lag when online. Our internet provider came out to check our lines and modem, and everything checked out fine. Since returning this product and replacing with a different brand, we have had zero internet connection issues or lag. If you want a product that constantly goes offline, this product is for you. ... show more

  • Worthless warranty
I manage multiple networks over multiple businesses and homes and cannot recommend Netgear products. This router in particular failed after 7 months. First, it's important for you to know that you only get 90 days of tech support and you cannot get a warranty replacement without going through tech support so you will likely have to pay to even talk to someone about a replacement. I was not that much of a pushover so they did offer me one free support call. After a reboot, it works fine but every 2 - 3 days, anything using a dynamic IP address stops working, no new devices with a dynamic IP can get on, and you cannot log into the router interface. I travel a lot and depend on this router for security and remote access to my files. I had to have someone go over my house every few days to reboot the router until I got home. I bought the exact same model, uploaded the configuration file and it's working fine. I called Netgear for a warranty exchange and was told I would need to put the router back on line, go through their troubleshooting (basically trying different versions of firmware) to see if the problem went away. I explained that I travel a lot and cannot "test" different configurations and then just wait each time for the unit to fail and me losing my security system, smart home, etc. They basically told me there was nothing that could be done and that unless I was willing to put my home at risk for their testing, I would not be able to send it in for a warranty replacement. I cannot recommend their products to anyone that needs their network to work properly at all times. This would be a great router if you don't mind having your network go down at random times while they experiment with your firmware. ... show more

  • Made in Vietnam
Difficult to change password and name of router. Can't reach technical support. Might as well be made in China, I'm sure made in Vietnam means China has a back door into your computer. Appears to be slow compared with my 10 year old router from another company. Will never buy another Netgear product. ... show more
