  • AC1900 DOCSIS 3.0 C7100V-1AZNAS for Comcast XFINITY
This was an upgrade from a rented ARRIS TG1682G. First, you save $11 a month for not renting the ARRIS. We have the Triple Play with Blast 250mbps internet and noticed an immediate performance increase. The setup is easy, plug it into the outlet, hook up your cable line and use the provided ethernet cable and connect to a computer. Make sure your old unit is not hooked up. Once the arrows and the earth internet symbol are solid, open up a browser and log into the gateway. It will confirm you have an internet connection after you set it up and Comcast will open a website in the browser to set up your new connection. All they needed was my user name and password, the rest was automatic, they filled in the serial number and built the connection automatically. I used chat to confirm they could see the new unit and it was ready for use. You are able to set up a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz network, set both up, the 2.4 is good for older equipment or printers etc, the 5Ghz should work with everything else. I was able to confirm that 24 down channels and 4 up channels were set up with my ISP. Huge improvement and we have 12-18 devices constantly using internet. The ARRIS would get 80-120 mbps with WiFi and up to 200 mbps with a direct connection, this was with streaming multiple HD/4K programs, downloading at 10 Mb/s and gaming at the same time, the problem was dropping constant connections and losing internet multiple times daily. The Netgear would get 200-250 mbps on WiFi (up to 30 MB/s download) and 300-350 mbps with ethernet direct connection doing the same tasks. The Netgear has a far better processor, Broadcom chips that do not drop internet connections and the extra lanes of traffic help with heavy use. Plus, it is upgradable to nearly 1 gbps connections and has a nice range increase over the old unit, about 1.5 to 2 times the range. Save yourself the hassle and upgrade if Comcast internet is not providing what you pay for, Netgear is usually solid but they will sometimes have lemon units so get the insurance just in case. TLDR: Reliable, easy to set up, more powerful processing, great for multiple devices at once, decent speed increase, faster/snappier internet, increased range, cheaper monthly bill and works with Comcast XFINITY internet and VOIP. ... show more

  • Big savings vs Comcast, strong performance
I bought this as a precursor to upgrading Xfinity service from 150Mbps to 400Mbps with voice. I have had a few different pieces of Netgear home equipment in recent years including a CM500 cable model and an older Nighthawk wifi router. The web user interface of this model is similar to the one in those older units so I didn't have much learning curve. I was replacing my most recent set up - a TP-Link DECO M5 mesh. All I did there was unplug power for all the DECO pucks before starting up the C7100V. After changing default password, I renamed the 2.4 and 5G SSIDs to match the DECO network name and set the same password. Once set up was done, most devices around the house picked up the C7100V seamlessly. Happily, the performance of the C7100V for wifi coverage exceeds not just just the older Nighthawk I replaced over the summer, but also the DECO mesh system which I had bought to address dead spots. Ebay here I come. One thing about this device is you can't control when it gets firmware updates - they are pushed from Xfinity at their sole discretion. Also, it's big - check the dimensions if the space you set aside for it is constrained. That said, it's also the most solid/substantial piece of Netgear equipment I've handled. Set up with Xfinity wasn't as smooth or as rough as some other posts. For me it did require a call to Xfinity support which happened to be out of the Philippines when I called. Took about 30 minutes and several power cycles of the modem. The modem wasn't receiving the activation signal. Also, sometimes after a reboot I couldn't bring up the user interface web page. In fact the tech was in the process of giving up telling me to go back to the old modem and have a technician do a house call in a couple days when I power cycled one more time and things started working. With everything stable, the speed test from the Xfinity site is already reporting 176Mbps when I'm still paying for 150. Given current promotions, switching tv from DirecTv and phone from Vonage, I'll pay for the modem in only about three months and save any recurring rental fee from Comcast. So I think this is a good deal and the price at Amazon is well below BB (by 25% at the moment) and others. ... show more

  • Easy to install and get up and running-- however USB 3.0 ports don't work.
Replaced my Xfinity Arris TG1682G (renting at $11/mo, 24-month payback) with this Netgear AC1900. Took about 30 min. to install, with 20 of that on the phone with Xfinity to update the MAC address and verify that everything was working (internet connection, WiFi, and VoIP). They are quite helpful. The AC1900 is working great after a few hours. The supporting software is easy to access and use (update passwords, etc). Update two days later. Turns out the two USB 3.0 ports are not working. In digging a bit deeper it would seem that this is a very common issue with Netgear devices. After 30 min. on hold with Netgear customer service, I was able to talk to a real person. However, after spending more time verifying my account information, a plug for other Netgear products she said that I should return the AC1900 and get a new one.. Pretty disappointing after the rest of the system seems to be ok. 23-May-2019 update: The 2nd unit failed at 10 months. Started going flaky on us about a week ago (red light of pending death). 100% dead now. Netgear support is not helpful as their limited warranty period has expired. Do yourself a favor and don't spend your hard-earned money and valuable time with this crappy, low-quality modem-router. 13-Dec-2020 The 3rd unit has started to fail on us. WiFi and voice channels cut-out with easily 10 occurrences over the last 3 weeks. The unit requires multiple reboots (cold down??) for everything to come back up. Given that I am working at home and my son's school is now on-line we need a solid reliable device. This brand is far from what is needed! ... show more
