  • NICE EXTENDER, BUT CS IS ANOTHER STORY
Style: AC2200 Refurbished
I wanted to love this extender. I really did....It connected easily, but then when I told it to secure the network via the existing passwords it began to drop off the network. It did so frequently. I reset, did it all over and it just did not seem to want to be a secure network. I tried different passwords...still dropped. I called Customer service, and they connected me to a Pay for Service group that took me thru a bunch of stuff before telling me they charged $129 to get me online. It was a new router, and I thought how absurd to charge for helping a customer with a JUST PURCHASED extender. I called amazon and advised them that I would be returning the extender, and NOT paying for a service that should be free. (at least for the first 90 days, anyway.) ... show more

  • Great wifi-extender for those on a budget
Style: AC2200 Refurbished
FIrst, I'm not a gamer or a teleworker that needs lightning fast internet. I need a wifi extender that will reach about 100 feet from the cable modem/router (Arris) that came from my internet provider to the rest of the house for another 100 feet. I need to connect: - 2 x iPad (for the kids YouTube habit) - 1 x iMac (for the family) - 2 x iPhone 6 (for me and the wife) - 1 x XBOX One - 1 x Apple TV box With at least 3 of the items above pulling data from the extender, I have around 60+ Mbps using speedtest.net on my iPad with a 300 Mbps internet plan. The range is all over the house and backyard through 3 walls (drywall interior and vinyl siding exterior). I also use all of my devices using the 5 GHz frequency from the extender to the device and the 2.4 GHz frequency from the extender to the modem...NETGEAR calls it "Fastlane" technology. The interface is easy to use - connect the extender to the modem using the "WPS" button and it'll synch immediately. Next, connect a device like your iPad to the extender. Then go to mywifiext.net using your browser on the iPad to configure your settings. The settings are easy to understand for a novice. The fact that it's a certified refurbished unit makes it an even better deal. The extender came in a plain brown box with plastic wrapping and cushioning sandwiching the device. I would recommend this to any of my friends, coworkers, and even my worst enemy! ... show more

  • Erratic performance improvements, but in general no appreciable gain. (Refurbished Unit)
Style: AC2200 Refurbished
I saw no significant performance improvement. My direct connection and connection via netgear were almost the same. Maybe the neatgear gave me a 10% improvement on download, on occasions, but not reliably. Most of the tests both direct and neatgear were on par, with 2G. On upload the numbers or my direct and netgear both remained in the kilobit range and not in the megabit range. So not much improvement. The direct ran from 500 - 800kbps. The netgear would more consistently run closer to the 800 range, but the direct would still be in the high 600 - 700 kbps. Again, I got maybe a 5% boost in speed with 2G. On ping test, the netgear performed slower or about the same as the direct connection. When it was slow it was VERY slow. 300ms via netgear vs the 43ms direct connection, again on 2G. With the 5G, netgear didn't work. I would keep getting errors like failed to get IP address or just fail to connect. But I did not have this problem with direct connect. In short, maybe at on best trial a 10% improvement on download. On best try, a 5% improvement on upload. On all cases ping was slower. I would even be satisfied with 10%/5%, but as said it was inconsistent. Sometimes got improvement, sometimes no improvement. Your mileage may vary. Truth in advertising the unit I had was a refurbished unit. Maybe it was defective in the first place and refurbish at the factory did nothing. ... show more

  • Great way to add wifi to areas with low signals
Style: AC2200 Refurbished
I bought this to install in a detached cinder block garage that had little or no wifi signals prior to installing the AC2200 extender. I had wifi all over the yard, but when I went in the garage, there was no 5gHz signal, and little (if any) 2.4gHz signal. I received the unit and had to go thru the setup twice because it does not say to wait in-between connecting the wifi signal from the existing router to the extender. I had to reset it to factory settings and figured out there is a wait time for all of the steps in-between, however the instructions are fairly straightforward. After setting this up in the garage, there was no client light on, and realized I had to bring a phone or computer out there to connect it. Once online, the extender has been working great and I'm able to watch streaming video at a bit rate of 800kbps (according to Dish network). I thought the price for a new unit was too high and wasn't willing to spend double the cost to put this in the garage. Overall, I'm very happy and would recommend this to others. ... show more

  • Increases WiFi range, but keep the devices to a min
Style: AC750 Wall Plug
Bought this after buying a smart thermostat that required a strong WiFi connection. Our house is L shaped with 75mbps WiFi setup on one end and the new thermostat on the other. This is boosting the signal for at least 5 different devices. Setup was very easy and since we have both 2.4 and 5 GHz it gives off 2 separate signals. Now we have three different networks with multiple devices (DirecTV, desktop, 6 smartphones, 2 smart TVs, 3 Echoes & thermostat) connected to each, and even though they generate from the primary WiFi network, every device seems to be working much better. *EDIT* Even though this extender made a HUGE difference, it has a connectivity problem. Every couple of weeks my devices would lose connection and the extender had to be reset or the devices reconnected. I'm sure the large amount of devices was a big part of that, but I moved before I could figure it out. ... show more

  • Top Rated WIFI Range Extender
Style: AC2200 Refurbished
After a bad experience with the last wifi range extender, I bought and returned, installing the NETGEAR refurbished EX7300 Nighthawk X4 AC2200 model was a snap to install and the results were astounding. Buying the refurbished model made the price especially reasonable for a top rated product and by its visual condition, I couldn't decern any evidence of its previous use. What put it miles ahead of the Chinese junk being imported for sale is the excellent documentation and online support for installing and operation of the NETGEAR product. ... show more
