  • Wonderful!
My daughter lives next door. Rather than hooking her up with a separate internet account, we hoped to just have her use our wifi. This range extender did the trick. Her house is about 280 feet from ours and she still gets consistent enough, strong enough signal in her home on our wifi. So happy we made this choice and purchase to save her additional monthly internet costs! We configured this at our house, and then moved it over to her house. It doesn't work perfectly - occasionally she gets weak signal, but for the most part, it's consistent enough to not cause her problems. ... show more

  • Does exactly what it's supposed to do
If you need to boost the signal strength in a remote part of your house, this might be what you need. There are multiple ways to install this device. I tried several ways and decided the best results come from using the simplest approach: the WPS button. In my case this resulted in the extender being connected to my Netgear R7800 router over the 2.4 Ghz network. I can force the extender to connect to the 5Ghz network through the Nighthawk app but that did not work as well in my case than the options selected automatically by the WPS approach. My router is on the main floor of the house, and my office is in the basement. I used the Wifi Analyzer app on my Android phone to locate an area in the basement that was getting a signal strength in the -50db to -60 db range from my router. That's where I plugged in the extender. I'm now getting 2.4Ghz signal in the -40db to -50db range in my office about 20' away from the extender, and 5Ghz signal in the -50db to -60db range. I'm connecting my office PC to the 5Ghz signal and getting a good reliable connection. The resulting download speed on Ookla Speedtest varies widely (anywhere from 20Mbps to over 100Mbps) from one trial to the next, but so far it's always "good enough" for my purposes (basic videos, web browsing, email, Zoom etc). ... show more

  • Works Well After a Long Set-Up Time and New Filmware Install
I purchased the device to help broadcast WIFI signal to areas with weaker signal in my house and to also extend WIFI coverage outside beyond the house to my garage. The device will not speed up your signal, but will transmit the strength of the signal the device is receiving and broadcast that out to dead areas. For the review, I am using using this as an extender only (not as a WIFI Access point). Here are some pros/cons: + Increases signal (with a clear line of sight) outside to over 100' away from device; through walls a good 50' or more. + Definitely will boost your dead spots in your home, garage, etc or where ever you need coverage. + Generally easy to set up and position in a decent wifi coverage area to rebroadcast signal to weak areas. + Devices hook up pretty easily. + For the price, a pretty good unit so far. - Cannot easily set up a new name for the new WIFI connections through the extender. Didn't work at all. Recommendation - leave new WIFI names as default and things should work ok. - The device didn't have the latest filmware so I had to log into the device and update it, which seemed to help. - Did not try tech support, but fumbling around on the website troubleshooting was not terribly helpful (per the above, just use the defaults and keep it simple). - Have sometimes had to power off the extender if there were issues of connecting, but otherwise that has only happened once or twice in a few months. ... show more

  • Stopped working
It worked great for about a month then becomes a middle man that keeps you from accessing the internet. It gave me full bars in the room farthest from the router and after a power outage it still gives me full bars, but will not allow me to access the internet. I bought a second router to use and can't log into my account for that one because it keeps telling me that I am entering the password wrong even though I wrote it down as I entered it. I tried reaching out to netgear with no avail. Very disappointed in this and will probably not use or recommend netgear again. ... show more

  • Better than expected.
This is the third extender that I have purchased for my home so I am familiar with the set up process and setting this up and working was fairly easy to do. I have read other reviews where the end user has had problems and I do remember that the first one did take some time but its doable. As for this one, it is the first refurbished extender that I’ve tried. It came in a plain box with adequate instructions included. Mine looks like new. And the best part is that it works like new! The main reason that I took a chance on a refurbished unit is because of the much lower price. It works well and I’m willing to look at refurbished products in the future. ... show more

  • Just Okay
Although this is 'renewed' item, it looked new. I'm not a tech savvy and it was very easy to setup. So, the question is if this helped extend the wifi signal. Yes, but not as much as it claims. My house is an old house with thick plaster walls. I bought several small wifi extenders/repeaters before but none of them gave me long range signal. I did not want to spend over $40 but weak signal was getting annoying so I decided to spend more for this. Disappointed? Yeah, kinda. I put outdoor wireless security camera and needed long range wifi extender. This did give me 'little' more signal than my cheap extenders, enough to operate the outdoor camera. Only ONE exterior wall to pass the signal. I was expecting more than just 'little' improvement. But since it is giving enough signal, I am okay with it. But expected much much more signal. ... show more

  • Excellent Device
The WiFi signal the AC1200 produces is outstanding. Poorly located in a room that is directly behind a big screen TV and brick fireplace our signal to the adjacent side of our home was poor but now increased drastically. We were then able to couple the AC1200 router with a AC2200 range extender, very very easily, to now have RSSI in the lower 50’s range to our security equip. Camera video on the far side of home is now excellent. We have relied on Netgear for quality and dependable equipment for many years which is why it was so hard to give up the WNDR3700V3 & wish I still had the number of the one before that. Thanks Netgear. ... show more

  • Fastest extender I've ever used.
This extender is the fastest I've ever had. It also has great coverage for the 60' boat we have it installed on. It was easy to set up. It can be set up in typical extender mode or in Mesh extender mode. I like the idea of using it as a mesh extender (uses the same wifi name as the extended network and then automatically determines which signal your device should connect with), but in practice it has some limitations. Every extender has slower speeds (up to 50%) than the extended network because of the way it passes the signal. If you are connected to an already slow network the extender will slow it down even more. In mesh mode your device will connect to the original wifi source or extender based on the strength of the signal, not the speed of the download/upload, and you don't have an option to choose whether you are connected to the extender or original wifi source in mesh mode. That can be a problem when connected to an already slower network wifi source. I end up using in extender mode because of that situation so it shows up having a separate SSID from the original wifi source. ... show more
