  • works great. slightly confusing to set up
There is a button on the side that says you can switch between "access point" and "extender". I assumed that this button had some significance... But apparently for using this as a wifi etender, you just keep the button always set to extender. No clue what the other side of the button is for, and the manual doesnt say what its for. I could not get the extender to connect through the user manual, but once I downloaded the app, it went very quickly and smooth. Now i get very good connection out in my shop, where i used to get horrible connection. ... show more

  • Better than expected.
This is the third extender that I have purchased for my home so I am familiar with the set up process and setting this up and working was fairly easy to do. I have read other reviews where the end user has had problems and I do remember that the first one did take some time but its doable. As for this one, it is the first refurbished extender that I’ve tried. It came in a plain box with adequate instructions included. Mine looks like new. And the best part is that it works like new! The main reason that I took a chance on a refurbished unit is because of the much lower price. It works well and I’m willing to look at refurbished products in the future. ... show more

  • Works Well After a Long Set-Up Time and New Filmware Install
I purchased the device to help broadcast WIFI signal to areas with weaker signal in my house and to also extend WIFI coverage outside beyond the house to my garage. The device will not speed up your signal, but will transmit the strength of the signal the device is receiving and broadcast that out to dead areas. For the review, I am using using this as an extender only (not as a WIFI Access point). Here are some pros/cons: + Increases signal (with a clear line of sight) outside to over 100' away from device; through walls a good 50' or more. + Definitely will boost your dead spots in your home, garage, etc or where ever you need coverage. + Generally easy to set up and position in a decent wifi coverage area to rebroadcast signal to weak areas. + Devices hook up pretty easily. + For the price, a pretty good unit so far. - Cannot easily set up a new name for the new WIFI connections through the extender. Didn't work at all. Recommendation - leave new WIFI names as default and things should work ok. - The device didn't have the latest filmware so I had to log into the device and update it, which seemed to help. - Did not try tech support, but fumbling around on the website troubleshooting was not terribly helpful (per the above, just use the defaults and keep it simple). - Have sometimes had to power off the extender if there were issues of connecting, but otherwise that has only happened once or twice in a few months. ... show more

  • Junk. Devices do not automatically switch via mesh network. Speeds questionable.
Picked this up to mesh extend my wifi network into my basement. I already have a netgear r6400. As instructed I factory reset and installed the newest firmware to enable the mesh feature. My goal was to just have a single SSID and to have devices automatically connect to the best signal, which is exactly what Netgear advertises with this device and the newest firmware. Setup wasn't difficult. But devices would only occasionally connect to the 7300, even when it was clear the 7300 had much better signal. So my smart TV and my ipad would sit there and spin endlessly because the R6400 signal isn't good enough. There is no manual way to force a connection to the 7300 short of just redoing the entire setup and giving it a different SSID, but then it would just be a repeater which I can get for $20 these days. When it did connect speeds seemed to be much lower than anticipated. With the 7300 showing a 72% signal from the R6400 it advertised both 2.4 and 5ghz speeds much lower than native. I expect there is some overhead to doing this, but speeds seemed way too low to make sense, lower than the 75mbps I'm getting from my cable company. Also the Netgear genie app kind of stinks. When I did have devices connected to the 7300 the app said they had 0% signal, but clearly the device itself said it had a good signal. The app is cumbersome, doesn't work well with the 7300 added on and often would not remember settings. I didn't try customer support, past experience with them made me already know to expect long wait times, heavy accents and minimal help. Sorry, I just don't have the time. ... show more

  • Fastest extender I've ever used.
This extender is the fastest I've ever had. It also has great coverage for the 60' boat we have it installed on. It was easy to set up. It can be set up in typical extender mode or in Mesh extender mode. I like the idea of using it as a mesh extender (uses the same wifi name as the extended network and then automatically determines which signal your device should connect with), but in practice it has some limitations. Every extender has slower speeds (up to 50%) than the extended network because of the way it passes the signal. If you are connected to an already slow network the extender will slow it down even more. In mesh mode your device will connect to the original wifi source or extender based on the strength of the signal, not the speed of the download/upload, and you don't have an option to choose whether you are connected to the extender or original wifi source in mesh mode. That can be a problem when connected to an already slower network wifi source. I end up using in extender mode because of that situation so it shows up having a separate SSID from the original wifi source. ... show more

  • Over-rated
I bought this Wi-Fi extender to replace an old TP-Link. Improvement is minimal. I was expecting a stronger signal on the other side. Using it in a Mesh configuration messed up my whole network. Funny enough the Nighthawk App did not even recognized it and I had to set it up manually.
