My newest rig emphasizes a minimum of size and weight but can still accept larger lenses and matte boxes. This matte box holder is kind of the anchor for this particular set-up. I also use it to add a field monitor on the center of the frame if necessary, and simply swap around the components if I need to. I'm planning to add a second to my collection and put it on an offset pair of rods that hold the shoulder pad, but that's a separate project. For the MSRP and the build quality, I can recommend this to anyone who needs a matte box during a dynamic video session where balancing size, weight, and accessories is a puzzle. ... show more

I got this because I was tired of dealing with the mattebox mount that came with my Tilta Mirage. That thing does NOT slide on the rails at all until you loosen the vertical height adjustment lock. SUPER annoying. This mount comes with a 1/4 20 screw, however the Mirage uses a smaller M screw, so I simply unscrewed the included on the Neewer mount, then took off the grip from the Tilta mount allowing me to pull it through and remove it from the Tilta rail mount. Now it just goes into the Neewer 1/2 20 hole obviously with no issues, but it also does not have anything on the other side to keep the screw from falling out when you unscrew it from the mattebox, otherwise keeping that in mind it's all good. The difference I gain by using the Neewer instead is that it can keep the proper height locked and perfectly slide on and off the rails with only loosening the rail locks (which is how the Tilta should work but it does not). It appears the Tilta vertical lock helps twist/torque the mount just enough to make it essentially lock on the rails until you loosen that. I love my matte box but I always hated having to mount it to my lens. With Neewers rod support for matte box, I no longer have to worry about my matte box being mounted to my lens. This alleviates any extra stress on the lens mount by the added weight, damage occurring to the lens from impact to the matte box and lastly it ensures that your matte box is squared up with the body for perfect alignment. This matte box support is very solid and has quality material. I really cranked down on the knobs just to ensure that they would not fail on me in the field, and they did not strip or break under stress. I have used other accessories that failed under lesser load than I put on these knobs. The mounting point on my matte box was the only weak spot of the setup. This rod support for matte box is one of the best investments you could make for your matte box. It adds security and speeds up lens changing, by not having to find the correct lens adapter for the matte box to attach to the lens. ... show more

Have been enjoying using both my Neewer and SmallRig matte boxes, but don't love how much weight they put on the far end of the lens, especially when using multiple filters. This little guy is all-metal, well-machined/finished, and very much on-par with SmallRig and other similar quality brands. Fits intuitively into my 15mm rail setup, and provides a great way to help support the matte box and keep weight off the lens and leverage off the lens mount. I got this rod support for my matte box to make it easier to change out lenses and not have to attach the matte box to the lens. It is simple to use by sliding the mount on to your rails, tightening down the screws, and attaching your matte box using the 1/4 screw. I have used Neewer products for several years and find they always make a high-quality product. I highly recommend this product if you are looking to make your life a little easier. ... show more

it fits the smallrig star trail mattebox perfectly, however be careful the type of lens you're using, I use a meike FF cinema lens on a pocket 4k and with this attachment the rails lift the matte box about a 1/4 inch so it's not perfectly centered it sits slightly above the bottom of the lens even at the lowest setting, so you'll probably need a camera riser plate to adjust for the difference depending on the lens you're using ... show more

This has a very nice all metal body and feels like a high end heavy duty product. I really like the alignment pins so we don't have to worry about it spinning in the event the matte box takes a hit. The thumb knob is drilled out so I can run an allen in and give it extra torque if needed. The holes all line up so I can drop it right onto my existing rig. It slides nicely, and locks down tight with kipp handles. Overall a great adapter. Highly recommended. ... show more
