Description

Nanlite Compac series studio LED panels combine a slim profile with impressive brightness to create lighting similar to large softboxes but at a fraction of the size. This space-saving design makes them an ideal option for lighting portraits, interviews, headshots, live streaming, food photography, vlogging, product photography, and more. With Compac series LEDs you can quickly achieve beautiful, studio-quality results without adding plastic filters or cloth diffusion. Rear controls enable you to dial in brightness from 0-100% and color temperature is set to a constant 5600K for easy compatibility with other daylight balanced light sources, photographic strobes and camera white balance presets. Whether you are shooting a video on location or setting up a home photography studio space is always at a premium. Compac series LEDs give you the light you need in the room you have. At only 3.3 inches thick, the Compac 100 uses high-efficiency LEDs to provide up to 8360 lumens (3274 Lux @ 1m 5600K) of illumination. Supplied with a standard 5/8" receiver mount, the Compac 100 can be mounted directly on any standard light stand.

I bought a couple of these Compac 100s for product and food photography and like them a lot. I bought the 5600k version instead of the bi-color ones since these will be brighter at 5600k which is what I shoot at. I considered the larger Compac 200 but since I sometimes take my lights places I was concerned that those would be too big. These seem like an ideal size for my needs (I would love to try the 200 sometime for their sheer size and power). I have owned LitePanels lights in the past which are an industry standard in professional video and broadcast TV. The construction of these Nanlites seems pretty decent by comparison. The entire shell is a solid plastic just like the LitePanels Astras and feels pretty solid. Overall they seem generally quite well built, particularly considering the price compared to other professional lights. The one negative to the overall design is that the light is quite top heavy so if you are going to angle them you really have crank down the thumbscrew so they don't slip. So much so that i worry about it failing eventually, or the light slipping down and toppling the stand its on. This light might be better if it were designed so the yoke attached to the long side instead. The main thing is that these cast a really nice soft & bright light from a large very source with no weird stair stepped shadows that some LED panels produce. They seem like they'd be great for all kinds of uses where soft light is more important than throw, and I haven't seen anything else quite like these on the market. Now I just need to find a travel bag. I've ordered a large Gator G-MIX-L 1926 mixer bag that hopefully will be able to carry two of these lights. If it works out it will be a nice mobile solution.
