    • Probably not the card's fault, but FYI: all SATA power outputs died after I bricked a 300W PCIe card

I believe I mis-flashed a 300 watt PCIe card (which used the 12v-2x6 cable), bricking the card, which is almost certainly not the power supply's fault. Right after that, shortly after rebooting, I got a bunch of SATA drive errors, and, after that, I was never able to power on a SATA drive again from any of the four SATA power output ports of the power supply or using either of the provided SATA power cables. Switching back to my old power supply immediately solved the problem. I don't know that this product claims conformance to any specification that says it should be resilient against this, so I'm giving it four stars for now, but I figure I should still share this experience, in case a pattern emerges revealing power supplies that might be more resilient. ... show more

My PC kept randomly restarting and I figured it was the 10+ year old power supply unit. I've never worked on a PC so I watched a couple of videos and was able to figure out how to swap this thing in. It's pretty easy once you know almost all of the pluga can only be plugged into a specific port. This unit feels of quality and I hear good things about MSI from my friends who have been building PCs for years. This unit seems to be quite happy in the case and has not randomly shut down or restarted. Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase. First one I bought shorted out and fried all the new hardware I bought, and all my old hard-drives, that was a fun two weeks. The replacement unit came with a wire touching the fan, which made a loud clattering noise. Once I pushed it out of the way, things were fine for about 6 months, which is when the bearings in the fan went, and now it sounds like an angry hive of bees whenever my PC is powered on. The review says 1 star, but I really mean 1/2, because that's about how long it lasted in years. I'm not even claiming warranty on this thing because I'm currently 0-2 with their QC. ... show more
