  • Great heater, safe to use, good price
We needed to replace a 50,000 BTU propane heater that was old and unsafe. We used it to preheat a detached woodshop that measures 20’L X 12’W X 8’H, and the old heater required us to monitor it because it would randomly shut off, leaving the propane flowing and an electric fan running. We live in an area where minus 0 temperatures are not uncommon, and babysitting the old heater while it roars for twenty minutes to get the temperature up to 72 degrees (F) isn’t a lot of fun. We bought the Mr. Heater MH60QFAV for several reasons (besides its cost): It has continuous ignition, which means the igniter runs continuously while the heater is running, so should it get knocked over, or the propane line have a ‘burp’ the flame will automatically reignite. It has a variable heat setting, allowing a BTU output of 30K through 60K. We use the 60K to preheat the shop, and then use electric heating to maintain the temperature. It normally takes less than 10 minutes to get up to 72 degrees (F). It doesn’t stink the place up. You can smell a light scent, but it’s not overwhelming. This heater is quiet, light, smaller than older models of torpedo heaters, has a very long gas line (almost 9’), and the front of the heater can be elevated by an adjustment knob. The best thing about it is my wife trusts it, and lights it herself. ... show more

  • High 30s outside. Got my none insulated garage to 70 degrees in about 45 minutes.
The media could not be loaded. Just got it today. Definitely pumps out good heat. It’s high 30s outside. My garage is not insulated at all. I’ve had it on low for maybe 45 minutes and my garage is at 70 degrees. So far very happy with product. Hopefully will last me a few winters. Will say she’s a bit noisy but as to be expected from a heater of this nature. Not crazy loud though. ... show more

  • For a first-time buyer
I've got lots and lots of tools and I'm tool saavy. However, this is the first time I've purchased this type of space heater. When I went to put it together and use it I was surprised by what this heater didn't have. Which is why I gave it 4 stars. First, it works well. Plenty of heat for my uses in a small heater configuration. So, no concerns there. And, it looks well-designed from a heat management perspective. However, I have some concerns on the "user friendly" side. Out of the package I was a little surprised that there was not better instruction material. There is an extensive "operating instruction and owner's manual" but you don't find any "out of the box" instructions, and the operating instructions don't begin until page 6 of the manual, so they are easy to miss. The propane gas line is designed for only occasional connection-disconnection. It requires a wrench. It is not the usual home-owner type connection that uses a hand tighening system. To be fair, maybe this is standard for this kind of heater, presuming that it is being attached to some very large volume source. I'm using it with a standard homeowner 20 lb propane tank (the kind homeowners can buy at most home supply or tool stores). (My use is to pre-heat a garage for winter home projects.) I would rather have had the standard hand-connection system. My main concern was that there is no "on-off" switch. When you plug it in to an electric source the fan and auto-starter start immediatelly. This can be surprising, particularly if you happen to be standing in front of it when you plug it in. The gas doesn't start and there is no flame until you push the red gas button; so, it doesn't seem to be a fire risk. However, it is surprising to have it go on immediately, and awkward to have to manually disconnect it every time. Would I buy it again? Probably not. I think it is well built, but the gas line requiring a wrench at the tank end and the absence of on-off switch are going to make this somewhat awkward to use (in my consumer-type uses). ... show more

  • Saved Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving needed to be outdoors this year because of the pandemic. We had a big enough tent but the weather up here in NY is chilly and while everyone was willing to try this, we weren't sure whether this little heater would do the job. It did. Using propane (a 20lb tank seems to last about 5 or 6 hours on high) and an electric connection (for ignition and the fan motor) this little cannon put out enough heat to warm a table of 12. Those closest to the heater were quite a bit warmer than those 12 feet away at the other side of the table so everyone chose their seating based on their cold tolerances. Setting up the heater was easy and everything but a full propane tank and an extension cord is included. The unit is nicely made and the outside of the heater does not get dangerously warm (double wall construction) even after hours of use--a big safety plus. The unit has (as all propane appliances do) a safety thermocouple which only allows the gas to flow to the heater when it is producing heat and it seems to work well. The noise from the heater is substantial, a combination of the propane flame and the fairly powerful fan motor creates a bit of a roar. But our guests didn't seem to mind so long as they were toasty. ... show more

  • Black Friday Deal
Bought it last year and got a good price on it. I've used it to flash heat my garage as needed and/or to supplement an electric garage heater. Last year I did not have a well ventilated garage so I didn't use it much. This fall/winter I've had more of a chance to use it and I'm happy with the purchase. As others have said however you will tear though A LOT of propane very quickly if you run it for hours at a time. No need in my application to be honest. This will jump the temp of my somewhat insulated 1 car garage by about 30 degrees in 15 or so minutes. Good enough for hanging out in the garage, doing projects, or sitting on my smoking couch. I mounted an extension cord on the wall for ease of turning on and off. You will need that to power this unit because the cord coming off the heater is about 6 inches long. ... show more
