The actual installation is easy, like every other zebra blind I've put up; no worries there. When the solid vanes align, you do get the blackout effect---but realize, the length of your actual window determines whether the vanes do line up when the shade is fully down. Only a custom blackout zebra blind is guaranteed to close "perfectly." The mechanism is louder than I expected. It also took quite a few up-and-down passes before the shade was properly rolled up and not slipping. I got this motorized shade because it's in a spot that's not convenient to reach manually, but I'm glad I won't be constantly adjusting it because the movement doesn't seem smooth. The remote was the most aggravating thing. First, it has a tiny Phillips-head screw on the back and it needs to be removed so you can insert the included 2032 battery (they should have just had the battery inside already, with one of those little plastic tabs you pull out to activate it). I luckily had a tiny screwdriver for the job, but still had to use pliers to pull the screw all the way out. It's not obvious at all how to open the remote once the screw is out; it actually slides very slightly and then you can lift it off. In order to program the blind to stop at specific points up/down/middle, you need to press something into a tiny hole on the back of the remote to enter programming mode. And the hole is SO tiny, I had to use a sewing needle (even an eyeglass screwdriver was too big). If they insist on such a small hole, they need to provide a tiny tool to poke with! The remote is also not exactly intuitive. You get ⬆️, ⬇️, and ➖. The ➖button is actually stop/pause. If you merely "click" the up/down arrows, the blind stutters about a half-inch; you have to hold down the arrow buttons to get it auto-moving, then you can release.

Once in place this has been a work horse of a product. Every member of my family feels the need to adjust it every time they enter the room. I mounted this over a glass front door. What we like: - It is smooth operating. - When in full block mode, it does provide ample privacy - It is quiet when operating. - After two months of use, it shows no sign on degradation. Cons: - It is really hard to hit that sweet spot to get full coverage. - The battery needs to be charged weekly. But, as I mentioned our family probably raises and lowers the blind more that the average.

These are great, high-quality, and well-made motorized zebra blinds. Physical installation is almost the same as any other blinds, and not difficult at all. (I really want to have blinds like the one picture where the tops with the motor are hidden up higher than the ceiling.) These blinds might take some patience when adding to your Smart Home, but I have found that adding any low-powered device like this might take a few tries. These blinds fit our window perfectly, and they look awesome! The light blocking comes in very handy at certain times of the day, and the shades are easy to control with the included remote or by voice. These blinds are a great addition to any home with their smooth operation, motorized up and down, and their light-blocking abilities.
