When the engine light came on, this is the scanner that you needed to diagnose the issue to find the root cause before you decided to fix it yourself or take it to the auto shop. The package came with the handy ODB2 scanner unit, a USB-A to USB-C for updating the scanner software, and a nice instruction booklet. This ODB2 scanner is compact and lightweight. It has a non-removable OBD2 cable attached to connect to your car's ODB2 port, usually on the left side under the driver's steering wheel. The 2.8" color display is very clear and easy to see even in outdoor. The user's interface is easy to use and it can be updated using the USB-C port located at the bottom of the scanner. The scanner can read and erase error fault codes. It also support real-time data for trouble-shooting and diagnostic. Plugged into the computer right out of the box and checked to see if the software was up to date, the whole process was pretty straightforward. Had a P0456 code on my 2008 prius that it read and erased with no issues. Haven't used it for data monitoring or other advanced features, but decently expansive capabilities for the price. Mine did not come with a manual, so I checked their website and had a lot of manuals but not the right one. Emailed customer service and never got a response. Checked back on the website a couple weeks later and the manual is now available. Overall this is a easy to use tool at a fair price. ... show more

    • These Code Scanners Keep Getting Better …
I believe these diagnostic tools are worthy as they can give you the option of identifying and even fixing car problems on your own without having to go to a dealership or shop just to interpret a light icon that could mean nothing … or a major repair. This tool is much better than what I was using previously. WHAT YOU GET This code scanner comes with a USB-C cable and instruction manual. The scanner measures 6” x 3 ½” and is 1” thick. The code reader plug is attached to the handheld by a 30” cable. An instruction manual is also provided. SET-UP, EASE-OF-USE, AND PERFORMANCE I previously was using a simple diagnostic plug that required an annual subscription to use on an ongoing basis and I hated that. This tool does it all without being forced to pay for any subscription. The best feature in my opinion is the life-time updates without additional expense. You will need to download the MotoPower app from their website to get the updates with the USB-C cable (the latest update for this device is 12.29.2023); computer connection also allows you to print results. Overall, very simple setup. It is important to note that the scanner is limited to rendering fault codes related to engine and emission-specific issues (it would not have detected or identified the issue I had with the airbag light blinking), but it identifies the VIN# and reads battery voltage. The handheld’s screen is clear, colorful and it is easy to navigate, but I desperately needed the instruction manual to navigate through the features presented by this scanner. Thankfully, the manual is not only thorough and informative, it simplifies things that allow a novice like me to use the scanner without issue. I do not know how this code scanner compares to other similar tools on the market, but I found this to be very user-friendly and effective without any additional expenses.
