As much as I like the lamp, there is one situation that was driving me goofy. The way the unit attaches to my home is both good and bad news. There are four screws used to fix the lamp body to a 5” X 6” mounting plate. It’s also in the kit. The screws are #4-40, but only 1/2” long. I could not get such a small and short screw to catch a thread to establish a point that a screwdriver could be used to tighten it. The weight of the lamp, though it isn’t heavy, exerted enough force to keep the screw and mount plate from mating. There just isn’t enough length to get it in there. After a couple days of frustration, a thought crossed by weary thinker; just get a longer screw! One #4-40, X 1 1/4” long should work. And, it did. Once one screw was attached, lining up the other three was doable. Just make sure the longer screws and internal wiring are insulated from each other! Electrical tape wrapped around the GFCI block worked. After mounting the lamp everything worked just as it was supposed to. The GFCI is tripped at the factory, so it’s important to reset, or it will not provide power. The options are easy to adjust and useful. Now the little townhouse has power around front. The build quality is good, and visually it’s definitely an improvement. I bought the oiled bronze, or rubbed brass finish. I had one other thought that may work to help install the lamp also. Using a bar clamp to snug the lamp to the mounting plate may provide enough friction to hold them together for at least one screw to line up with a mounting hole, maybe more. Good luck, though hopefully, someone smarter than me, (I mean who isn’t.) will probably find a more straight forward approach. ... show more

    • GFCI great idea, but light and motion sensors too sensitive for me

These lights provided me with what I needed most, the GFCI outlets! I figured they would provide the auto sensing system of the lights they replaced as well as meet my external GFCI requirements. The problem is the sensitivity of the motion detector keeping the lights on permanently. I could handle birds being detected, but not insects. If insect motion keeps the light on, it will never turn off because lights just attract more insects! So my lights are on as soon as it is dark enough and stay on due to insect motion. I am trying to "shade" the detector with various items to see if I can turn off motion to at least bird level. Hopefully I can make these work! ******* Update: I understand that this type of motion detection should not pick up insects, and I believe that is true since it is now winter here and there are NO insects. These lights continue to come on almost from dusk to dawn (I have them set to come on dusk to dawn WHEN motion is detected). Very seldom will one turn off after dark. I have 4 of the lights facing different areas of the property, all behave the same. So I don't know what motion they "think" they see, but the human eye sure does not see it. I have tried putting various translucent colored plastic shields over the motion/light sensor with no luck. I end up turning the lights off before heading to bed. But, as stated before I really needed these for the GFCI outlets, which work wonderfully! So still 3 stars for me. ... show more
