  • Works well
This works well but it does kink a bit inside of the barrel. Just pull it out and slow feed it back in by hand and it will be right back up and running.

  • Not with the money.
Not with the money. I bought mine 5 years ago, I've only needed to use it a handful of times. The cable that I received with mine was not solid core as advertised, it was open in the middle. When I started looking for replacement couplings turns out they're impossible to find. I'm not going to go out and buy a whole new cable for a device that already had chronic problems getting tangled. ... show more

  • Finished the job with the 1/2" auger
Update almost a year later: Had a heavy rain which I think backed things up into my drain causing a blockage which was still iffy after I plunged it. Just used this auger again and it only took about an hour to get down to the blockage and back. Again, I have a straight shot at my pipe and the pipe is straight from there so I can go pretty quickly. This has been such a life saver. Update: Turns out my clog was most probably a bunch of baby wipes from my youngest. Still stand by everything below. Original: To start, let me just share what not to do. Don't use the motor when you're close to fully retracting the cable. I would recommend manually rotating the drum when you have a few feet left so that you don't kink the cable inside of it. I had done this because the drum rotates from momentum a score of times after you take your knee off the switch. Then I messed it up even worse trying to get the cable out so I ended up having to take the entire thing apart to get the cable out. Trust me when I say you don't want to do this but the fact that I got it back together is a testament to the simple construction although the bolts inside the drum are very hard to get to at all times and are especially hard when the cable is messed up. As others have said, to start, it's very hard to get the belt on but I managed it (two times!) with just minor frustration. I saw someone said it took them 12 hours to get the cable fully out but I didn't have the same experience. My third time using it I was pretty comfortable with operating it and was able to get all 100 feet out in about 1 1/4 hours (back in took about 30 minutes) but I have a straight shot so results will vary. You definitely have to move it more slowly once most of the cable is out. You move it out until the cable starts to bow and then back off to let it settle but I thought this was probably a good thing since it gave the auger time to do its job. So I said I did it 3 times. I used the boring bulb the first 2 times and I think I had just punched a hole in whatever the blockage was because the clog came back pretty quickly. The 3rd time I used the C-Cutter and that has cleared me for 3 days now so I feel like I managed to clear what plunging alone was not touching. As for the cost. I had to have a guy come out and use an auger about 3 years ago and that cost me more than this machine did (can't imagine what it is now) so I have to say that this has been an incredible value taking only 2 hours to run and paying for itself with only 1 use. Gives me a lot of peace of mind to know that I don't have to wait if I have another clog. Final thoughts is that it's heavy and loud but not too loud and not too heavy that I couldn't move it myself without too much fuss. It's also a serious machine and you can hurt yourself with the open cage so I would recommend getting a plumber first so you see how to use it and how it works for them with your pipe(s). Final, final thought is that I really should have gotten a camera first so I knew what I was fighting. I would strongly recommend that first since you may damage your pipes worse going in blind. ... show more

  • Awful customer service
Customer services basically non existant. I received my half inch hundred foot drain auger with a broken part (v-belt pulley). Also, the 100 foot snake was all twisted in its compartment. I needed to take the entire thing apart to properly organize the snake. When I tried to get a replacement for the small plastic part that was broken, they told me the only option was to return the 120 pound machine. BUYER BEWARE There is no way to get replacement parts for this machine from the manufacturer. Also, the hundred foot auger has trouble going past 60 feet. ... show more

  • I overpaid don't make the same mistake, but it does work...sort of.
As stated in headline I overpaid my mistake wanted a 1/2", 100' I was looking at their 3/8" version was pretty cheap so I figured they would be reasonable at 1/2" paid $886.00 thought was fair till I saw the same machine on ebay for $499 when I realized this next day tried to cancel but they already shipped out. Instead of returning the seller discounted me 20% initially they offered 10% they refunded me about $170.00 I still overpaid by $200. This machine is no way comparable to the pro stuff you rent from Home Depot I believe they rent 3/4" cable units I couldn't find any on Amazon at the time largest was 1/2". I have roots getting into my sewer line (4") so every few years was renting a unit. I had no issues with the use of the rental units. This machine took a little getting used to the cable would kink easily and had trouble reeling it in as it gets jammed in the drum because of a poor design there is a gap between where the cable is coiled and the guide at the front of the drum (inside drum) that causes it to get caught so you need to keep an eye on this thing constantly. I was expecting this to operate like the rentals I was used to using but it does work but you need to be patient and go slow. Also if you are going to go past 30-40 feet be sure to have someone with you holding the unit down as it tends to want to walk, It is a heavy unit but once the cable is out it lightens up quite a bit. At $800 this is not worth it but if you get it for $500 and are patient it may be worth it to you if you only need it once in a while on a main line. I'm sure it will do well on smaller drain lines but would not recommend using on a 4" or greater line if you are planning on using this regularly. Good Luck! ... show more
