  • Great starter bike.
I bought the Mongoose Dolomite because I am a big guy, and knowing that mods were coming. Assembly was pretty straight forward, and the derailleur needed no adjustment so far. It was pretty much ridable straight out of the box after some assembly. I did replace the plastic pedals before my first ride (MZYRH Mountain Bike Pedals, Ultra Strong CNC Machined 9/16" Cycling Sealed 3 Bearing Pedals). I wish I had waited for the seat replacement to come in. The Giddy Up! Bike Seat made a lot of difference to the ride. The twist shifter, for me. tends to change gearing while I and mounting the bike and and kicking off to start my ride, and there is a pretty big gap in the gearing. The bike itself is pretty hefty coming in at a little over 45lbs, upgrading to a megarange cassette (SunRace 13-34 8sp) should help power this beast over hills with a little more ease. The twist shifter is definitely getting removed and replaced by a RapidFire 8 speed shifter and Shimano Altus derailleur. This is a good bike straight out of the box, and it is was listed in the top 5 by many of the reviews I found for Fat Tire MTBs. Something that appealed to me was, mods are fairly inexpensive, and not that difficult to install if you are handy with tools. There's plenty of helpful videos with recommendations, and walkthrough of the install procedures. So far, I am very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Thank you, Mongoose! I finally can ride again.
I love my Mongoose bike. I’m a super big guy 400+ lbs and over 6 feet. This bike holds me up well. I am finally able to get back on a bike. Something I haven’t been able to do since I was a kid. Since I got in March, I’ve been riding it almost daily. I started at 2 miles and have now gone up to 6 miles. Haven’t had any problems so far and have lost a bunch of weight because I can ride. Couple of other things to point out. The seat this bike comes with is terrible! I mean real garbage. I upgraded it. I recommend you do too. I also took mine to have it tuned up even though it was easy to put together and the instructions were super clear. Thanks, Mongoose for creating a great quality bike and for giving hope to a fat guy. ... show more

  • Amazing bike for beginners, especially us on the heavyside.
Please take time and read it all, I know it might seem tedious but please do. The CONS First off before you buy, the product has no assembly tools. I was lucky my dad is a handyman, he has every dang tool. (Screw driver, adjustable cresed wrench, and a 9 key Allen tool. It was difficult to assemble because the manual it came with was for a similar bike but not this one, I didn't even use the manual, just common sense and a quick YouTube video for a similar bike. If I can do it so can you. The seat is slim and hard, atleast for me. (I weigh 270 and I'm 6 foot 1) I'm got me a new much more comfy one. THE PROS Rides great, I got it for weight loss and believe me ittl do the trick. One ride around your neighborhood will have your legs burning!!. Pet friendly, I have a doberman, I attached a handfree bike attachable leash and it works amazing. The bike is big and sturdy, so if your dog pulls you have lots of control. The breaks work fine. At my full speed, mind you I'm 270 pounds if I pull both breaks I stop fairly quick. Like within 10 to 15 feet. (Pulling one break will not slow you to a stop fast, you have to pull both to get a much faster stopage) I gave it a 5 star review because the riding which is the most important part of the bike deserves 5 stars. I have mine at 16 psi and that's only riding on road and sidewalk. OVERALL BUY this bike, it's great for beginners, it assembles within 20 minutes, Great for pets to ride along, and great for weightloss. Also it's like 300 buck more or less. Idk if Amazon will forever have this but I was able to get a payment plan for like 80 bucks a month, you can't beat that. An amazing bike for 80 bucks a month instead of paying a full 300 right away!!! ( I was not paid for this review, I just really loved the way I felt riding, I haven't ran in years and I felt the wind in my face and I felt 10 again.) ... show more

  • Great Entry Level Bike (with a few adjustments) Great Entry Level Bike (with a few adjustments)
I believe this is a great bike as long as you enter into the purchase with the right expectations. The price point for this bike isn't cheap, but this is an entry level fat tire bike. After putting in roughly 75 miles on road and trails, I can say that this is a great entry level bike for the money! Pros -Great for overweight riders -Navigates well through road and trails -Was easy to assemble (did not have any assembly issues I had read about in other reviews) -It's a nice looking bike. I've received many comments on how cool the bike looks! Cons -Bike Weight - This bike is heavy! It's a beast of a bike. Double up your protein shakes and hit the gym if you're going to lug this bike around everywhere you go. -Shipping - There's not much protecting the bike in shipping. Mine made it unscathed, but I now understand the negative reviews I read about damage during shipment. -The seat.....I saw many negative reviews on the seat being laughably small. It's tiny. It's uncomfortable. It's terrible. Spend the extra $30-$40 for a nice seat as it makes a huge difference in the ride. In my picture I have the bike fitted with a Cloud 9 seat. I would recommend Cloud 9 or YLG oversized comfort seat. I bought both and they are both great! - I have had to adjust the gears a few times to keep the gears from slipping out of low gear. I am no bike mechanic, so I've relied on online video tutorials to properly adjust the bike. It hasn't been a major issue, and is fixable. This goes back to the bike being more of an entry level bike. Expect to put extra time/money into it to make it exactly what you want. Reading some of the negative reviews it sounds like there have been quality issues with shipping and bike construction. However, it looks like I got a good one. I would definitely recommend this bike for any casual rider looking to get out and ride their local streets/trails. ... show more

  • Love this bike! Love this bike!
Super easy to put together, I love the sturdiness of the bike. I live in Texas so the 7 speeds are more than enough. You will need bicycle shorts and a gel seat pad until your butt gets used to that tiny seat though. It’s is heavy for a bike but it glides along nicely. I have 160 miles of trails in the township I live in and intend to explore them all! ... show more

  • great bike for the price.
I bought this bike to help with weight loss. being severely obese was hard to find. After months of searching and looking up reviews. i chose this sucker. First being during the pandemic of 2020-2021, it's hard to find anything. the bike arrived earlier than expected. my nephew was visiting at the time. He assembled it for me. When assembled i took around the block. Came home adjusted the seat higher than normal for me, i am 6'4". Took for another spin. Fell in love, back to the good days when you could ride your bike anywhere. It is great. love it. Assembly was a three-star, the nephew said it took him about three hours. ... show more

  • Update after 1 + year !!!
Update::: these are GREAT !! As an Ebike they are so Great. Brakes will not last , I have replaced with RUJOI , great stopping power and you can now replace the Pads. I have put almost 800 miles! Rotors and Frame are strong, I’m 6’3” 255lb, A great for an Ebike..... off road is great too! I bought two, one for me and my 12 son. Ok these are not $600+ bikes. They are steel, and heavy. But I turned both into EBikes !! So the steel is a good thing , 1200 watt motor needs strong forks. We’ve put some fun 60+ miles on them. Everybody said to upgrade the brakes and gearing control but we didn’t, they operate just fine. When your EBiking you don’t need to switch gears that much anyway. Everything runs fine, be sure to tighten everything before riding. These are heavy bikes but wow they can handle every type of road / off road. And YES everyone will take a second look, especially if they are turned into a EBIKE!!!! ... show more

  • Perfect for the Beach
We have all kinds of sand along Lake Erie: Dry, wet, soft, hard, and mushy. This bike with its GIANT wheels is perfect for a workout on the street. More contact = more legwork. It's also great for riding on hard sand (not the mush). On soft sand, the bike stalls. On firm sand, you can go for hours ... or until your thighs are on fire. This bike provides a great workout (and escape from the needy folks back at the office). I pedal and forget the world! You should too. ... show more
