Description

Despite their seemingly simple design, Mityvac hand pumps offer a long list of unique features, many of them patent protected, which continue to make them superior to all other hand pumps on the market.Mityvac’s Silverline pumps are constructed primarily of zinc-aluminum die cast components, giving them greater durability while keeping them lightweight. This additional level of durability is required for tough working environments such as maintenance or service shops. With a little care and maintenance, Silverline pumps will provide a lifetime of flawless performance. Many applications for Mityvac hand pumps require pressure rather than vacuum. For example, a turbocharger waste gate requires pressure to test for proper function and accuracy. It’s also convenient for testing cooling systems to determine the source of leaks that can lead to overheating and severe engine damage. To fulfill the needs of modern service technicians, Mityvac Silverline dual pressure/vacuum pumps offer a switch that allows the operator to alternate between vacuum and pressure at the front port. These pumps include a compound gauge that indicates both pressure and vacuum levels.

  • You get what you pay for
Style: Vacuum & Pressure Kit Pattern Name: Mityvac MV8500
You can buy a cheaper vacuum or pressure tester but plan on being disappointed or buying another one after just a little while. I have tried to use a cheaper one I borrowed in the past to test vacuum activated 4wd hubs, to find the gun was bleeding off instead of the line I was testing. Might as well pay a little more to get this one that will do it all and last. I was needing to test oil seals in a lower unit and looked at pressure testers designed for lower units but they cost over $150. Came across the Mityvac MV8500 and knew I found what I was looking for. As soon as you pick up the gun you can tell it is heavy duty with full metal body unlike the cheap junk. The pressure gauge swivels making it a lot easier to see. Holds pressure and vacuum rock solid with no bleed off. Comes with almost anything you need. I did get a lower unit drain plug adapter to test my lower unit, but I believe I could have got one of the provided fittings to work. Like I said if you need a pressure or vacuum tester go ahead and get this one, you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • It Works as Expected
Style: Vacuum & Pressure Kit Pattern Name: Mityvac MV8500
I was able to draw all fluid using the vacuuming method, but it was not as easy as I had anticipated. This is my first time trying this method, so it may in part be due to a learning curve? The first step should always be to suction all old fluid out of the reservoir and replenish with fresh fluid. As long as you don't press the brake pedal, you can remove as much as possible with no concerns over air working its way into the system. For the procedure at the calipers, I believe in all cases some air will work its way into suctioning hose due to a loose bleeder screw, or due to the adapter (no matter which adapter you use). This air leak is no big deal from the standpoint of air working its way into the system since it is simply at the connection point, however, due to the leak I had to continuously actuate the pump to sustain the vacuum. Once you finish suctioning fluid out and have removed the adapter, you should wait for some fluid to drip out of the bleeder screw before tightening it – this is to make sure no air work works its way into the system. So in my case, the tool does work as intended. It helps to watch YouTube videos on how to use this tool for brake fluid change jobs (the Car Care Nut has a good one). Obviously, it really seems like the best vacuuming process is using compressed air and getting the MV6835 ($183) kit instead; but for this you'll need a compressor rated at least 4.3 cfm @ 90 psi. If you have a compressor that meets this specification, I would recommend this method instead. ... show more

  • When you need it you need it
Style: Vacuum & Pressure Kit Pattern Name: Mityvac MV8500
I've only used this twice since purchasing - once to find a pin hole on a fuel line and once to pressurize vacuum lines to find a leak. This kit does so much it will make your head spin and is extremely useful. I'm looking forward to using it the next time I need to diagnose a pressure or vacuum issue. ... show more

  • MityVac in combination with Motive Power Bleeder - a great setup
Style: MV8510 Pattern Name: MV8510
This review is about how I used the MityVac in combination with the Motive Power Bleeder to do a brake fluid job and be able to handle a contingency needing vacuum pressure. This thng works. Made bleeding brakes and replacing brake fluid easy for one person to do. I did not use the Motive Power Bleeder pump container to store the brake fluid. Instead I used the brake fluid reservoir as the fluid supply, and this kept the Power Bleeder bottle clean. When doing it this way you must be carefui to fill the brake fluid reservoir before doing each wheel so as not to accidently empty the master cylinder and introduce air into it, like I did when doing the last wheel which is closest to the master cylnder (oops). When doing the closest wheel you need to keep a closer eye on the fluid level in the reservoir because it empties faster than when doing the other lines (rear passenger side flows slowest since it's the longest line and the front driver side flows the fastest due to being the shortest line). If needed, a tip for a better seal on the master cylinder brake reservoir cap is to put a light coat of silicone grease on the rubber washer (silicone is compatible with rubber whereas petroleum based lubes are not). I fixed the problem of accidently emptying the master cylinder and was able to (I prepared ahead of time for this just in case) bleed the master cylnder of all air without having to disconnect any brake lines: 1. Tool used - Mityvac MV8510 Silverline Elite Hand Pump 2. Rubber stopper for the brake fluid reservoir was a solid 1-1/8 inch rubber sink stopper (size the 2010 Dodge Dakota takes and is equivalent to a #6 or #6.5 lab stopper). Drilled a small hole in it for a barb hose connector. You'll need to get a stopper that fits your vehicle. 3. Connect the hose from the barb of the MityVac to the barb of the stopper. 4. Put a light coat of silicone grease around the edge of the stopper and place the stopper into the opening of the master cylinder brake reservoir opening. May have to use hand pressure to hold down the stopper until a vacuum is established, depending on how hard/soft the stopper is. 5. Using the MityVaC pump a vacuum of 15 to 20 psi, repeatedly until all the air is sucked out. You'll know when all the air is sucked out when the gage holds a vacuum without dropping. The gage may drop slowly if the seals are not tight at the barbs, and if you have leaky connections you can use a gasket type sealant to make them airtight. When air bubbles in the master cylinder are extracted by the vacuum pressure, the gage will 'pop' to a less negative pressure, requiring another hand-pumping. 6. All air is out. Test brakes. Firm braking again - done. So, with the combination of the Motive Power Bleeder and Mityvac MV8510 Silverline Elite Hand Pump (in case), you can do a brake fluid job easy and neat, all the while keeping the equipment clean. ... show more

  • Best hand pump vacuum I've used
Style: MV8510 Pattern Name: MV8510
This is a good pump overall. Pros: 1) Durable construction 2) Easy-to-turn valve to switch from suction to expulsion 3) I've been able to achieve a 25 inHg vacuum -- pretty good for a hand pump alone 4) Easy to use 5) Built-in gauge works great and seems accurate 6) Built-in pressure release lever is a nice feature 7) Clear rubber hose included Cons: 1) Hand pump is not ideal for moving large volumes of air (recommend electric pump instead) 2) Handle appears ergonomic, but you will likely feel it after a lot of pumping ... show more
