Ignore all the reviews saying that this kind of caliper spreader is hard to use. In my opinion, it was extremely easy to use. I simply spun one side of the spreader with my fingers to get it close to the size of the pre-compressed caliper opening. I then inserted the device into the opening. Then, until the spreader made contract with the caliper jaw, I simply pinched the center of the ratcheting mechanism until it established enough compression to continue expanding the jaws of the spreader without holding the ratcheting mechanism (just a couple swings of the ratcheting arm). This is no different than using a ratcheting socket wrench; i.e. you have to have some tension on the bolt/nut to allow the ratcheting mechanism to work. This is no tougher than using a ratcheting. So if you know how to use a ratcheting wrench, you can disregard all the comments about it being hard to use. ... show more

This is one of the best brake tools I’ve bought in a while. Ive done a lot of brake jobs over the years and pushing the pistons back in using a twist block or c clamp was always the go to. Not difficult but could be better….well, this tool is better! Easy to slide in and ratchet the pistons open.

I admit - I messed up. These worked well, however, the metal quality of the side plates are pretty cheap. I bent one of the side plates on a single piston caliper but was able to toss it in a vice and bend it back. By hand. I ended up using one of the old brake pads as a shim to cover the caliper gap to prevent the side plate from bending again. Otherwise, it works. ... show more

It worked on the 1st caliper then I could not get it to expand for the second 4 piston caliper. One of the blades fell off then I saw that the internal screw had come come loose I was able to get it back in place but the threads looked stripped. I asked for a replacement and the new one came right away. Maybe I just got a bad one. Haven't used the new one yet. ... show more

Rolls back and forth without pressure being applied directly to the pad spreaders. Ratchet system seems off. I have used higher end models and never had this problem. I guess in this instance, you get what you pay for.
