  • Excellent machine for Office Productivity and Linux Gaming
Size: R9 7940HS 32G/1TB
Purchased in April 2024. Dual booting Windows 11 for work and Bazzite Linux for personal usage and gaming. Powers dual monitors easily. Windows 11 runs very well with MS Office 365 Desktop (Outlook, Word, Teams, and Excel) all running at the same time, and Zoom Meetings, SumatraPDF viewer with 7-10 PDFs open, and multiple Edge windows with 20-30 tabs. Let me tell you this computer is fast, and handles everything I just mentioned with ease and all of my applications are snappy. Also dual booting Bazzite Linux, and have tested Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk, Still Wakes the Deep, Trepang 2 and a few others, all which run very well ~40-60fps at 1080p. While it is not a $2000 gaming machine and I wouldn't expect it to be, it is a nifty little box that games surprisingly well. I guestimate it would get several hundred fps in games like CS, LoL, Apex, OW. Observations: Build quality is excellent. 10/10 Wi-Fi connectivity was not great, but there are also two concrete walls between the MiniPC and the router. Probably not the fault of the actual module, and ended up running a Cat6. I re-installed Windows from day one (after copying the Windows key) and did not run an anti-virus scan on the default install. IMHO, you should not trust any OEM manufacture's default Windows installation... not HP, Dell, Toshiba, Asus, nor any Chinese brand. Drivers were available from the Reatan website. My Alloy 9 is whisper quiet on the default power mode. The chassis does get hot to the touch, but has not noticeably thermal throttled even during summer months with 90F ambient temp. The UEFI GUI is difficult to navigate and find settings. I would much prefer an ugly ol' traditional BIOS menu. ... show more

  • Skeptic Turned Believer: Alloy 9 Mini PC
Size: R9 7940HS 32G/1TB
The media could not be loaded. The Alloy 9 Mini Gaming PC is a powerhouse packed into a compact form factor. This little machine has exceeded all expectations, effortlessly handling my demanding workload of crypto node hosting and web development. I've been incredibly impressed by the system's performance. Running multiple crypto nodes simultaneously is a breeze, and the PC remains cool and quiet. Web development tasks, from coding to compiling, are lightning-fast. Even when juggling multiple projects, I haven't experienced any slowdowns or performance bottlenecks. Beyond professional use, the Alloy 9 is a pleasure for casual gaming and web browsing. Games run smoothly, and the system feels incredibly responsive. The compact design is a major plus. It fits perfectly on my desk without taking up much space. The included connectivity options, including 2.5Gbps LAN and USB 4.0, are more than adequate for my needs. Overall, the Alloy 9 is a dream machine that delivers exceptional performance in a sleek and compact package. It's perfect for anyone seeking a powerful and versatile mini PC. ... show more

  • Zippy little buddy...almost.
I would like to start out with this review by saying if you hope you getting a $2k+ gaming computer by spending this price, I'm going to stop you there and tell you save your money. Overall, for a desktop PC for work and what not, this isn't a bad buy. The CPU is a great one. I got the Ryzen 7 5800U and was able to boost it to 4.4 GHz. This made is great and zippy for handling day to day things and it even slightly outperformed my ryzen 5 5600X on my big desktop. Alas, the problem occurred when I attempted to play the lowest graphically intense game I had: Risk of Rain 2. It was atrocious just loading the intro and the main menu. I had to turn it down to 720P and it looked disgusting. After removing Windows 11 Pro and installing Garuda Linux Dr460nized Gaming Edition, I noticed Risk of Rain 2 ran much better, Rocket League didn't need any changes to play well, and most of everything looked good and ran well. Problem came up when I switched from a small 19" Utility Monitor 60Hz refresh rate to my 28" 250Hz. Again, it looked disgusting and made the game unplayable. I tried other games like Borderlands 3. Again, unplayable. Disgusting graphics. There is just something not quite right with the VEGA graphics or the way the Radeon graphics chip works in these mini PCs. This wouldn't be the first hearing about problems in the VEGA graphics. Before receiving this product, I helped a friend by dropping a package off at UPS and it was a Mini PC (AceMagician something). He said the VEGA graphics were the problem. Honestly, MiniPCs are becoming popular we're still a long way from a computer without needing a discrete graphics card. Other than that, when I went to plug an AUX into the front of the mini PC, I was having trouble as it appeared that the port was off from the hole, a slightly poor craftmanship problem, not a huge deal. I ended up getting it in. Bottomline: if you want a PC for office use, this is right for anyone. For gaming, save your money for a real PC. ... show more

  • Great Experience - Great Value
Size: R9 7940HS 32G/1TB
I purchased the Alloy 9 Mini for general computing needs. I am not a gamer, so I cannot speak to any features that are related to gaming. My Alloy 9 has an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS processor, 1TB SSD, and 32GB of DDR5 5600 MHz memory. The first thing I noticed upon opening the box for the Alloy 9, was the compact size, sleek metal housing, with a very clean look. As I removed it from the box, I was immediately struck and pleased with the metal case, weight/heft, and clean look, leaving me with an overall great first impression. The setup went smoothly. I am driving three 27” monitors with no issues. The system boots quickly. Multitasking with multiple applications open has been a breeze and video playback and streaming are smooth. The Wi-Fi connection to my whole home 1 Gig mesh system has been great, no problems here. My only change to the Alloy 9 would be to have the USB4 ports moved to the back panel so all my monitor connections could come from the backside. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase for my needs and I fully recommend this mini-PC. Hopefully, others will write about their gaming experiences to help those interested in the Alloy 9 for gaming purposes. ... show more
