I bought this item to help clear trail through thick jungle up a steep hill, some requiring rope work to climb. After lugging my big Makita saw up the hill, I was already tired and needed to find something easier to carry. This is perfect. It is the perfect size to carry, and fits in a small backpack having my hands free to climb. It weighs less than a liter water bottle. The trees and vine I have to cut are all in the 1/2 inch to 3 inch diameter category, and it cuts then easily. Being able to hold it in one hand while using the other hand to steady myself on the slope is a definite safety plus. Some other observations: its design is all about light weight, and so it is not as robust as my full size saw. It will not take the kind of abuse that one might be accustomed to giving a saw while cutting down full size trees. It will not long survive the "drop it and run" that sometimes happens when doing real logging. Other reviews talked about the "new, automatic oiler". Mine came with the manual oiler button, which I view as a feature and not a bug. One fewer automatic function is one fewer function to break, I do not find the need to push a button every 30-45 seconds a major problem. My first trip I only took one battery, and after about 45 minutes the saw just quit. I had a sinking feeling because one reviewer said her saw failed after not much use and I was worried it was defective. I was used to my big Makita electric which will outlast me on one charge, but it was just that the battery was exhausted. It would be nice to have the battery last longer, but the light weight makes up for a lot of sins. In summary, this is definitely NOT the thing to get to cut your winter's wood supply or fell large trees. It is not something you can expect to last all day on one charge. It is not something you can treat like a lump of cast iron. And it is definitely not a toy. Despite its features, it is still a chain saw, which is at its heart an insanely dangerous tool. The little cotton gloves that come with it give a false sense of security. Adding a pair of meat cutter's gloves would have been a much better idea. But it was still a great find. ... show more

So far, I am very impressed with this saw. It has greatly improved features compared to the small battery hand saw I was using: - Internal chain oiler. It will take a lot of pumps to get it started using thick chain saw bar oil but then it works fine, no more manual oiling. I ended up removing the chain bar the first time I tried the oiler so I would know when it was primed. - No tools chain removal and adjustment. This works great, will need to see how well it secures the bar after it gets used a lot, but I think it will be OK. - Easy to use safety switch, works well with one hand. My old saw has a safety switch that was very difficult to use, almost required two hands, especially with gloves. - This saw has power to spare, it cut through 4-5" vines and hardwoods with ease. It will take a few months to see how well the batteries hold up. The battery failed on my last saw and a replacement was going to cost 3 times what the saw cost, so I decided to take a chance on this new one with improved features. So far, it's great. I didn't know what to expect given the low price, but this little saw worked great right out of the box. Both batteries were charged and it has a nice sturdy carrying case. Filled it up with oil went right at it. I was able to cut up to 4" diameter branches with zero problems and the motor never bogged down once. I'll see how long the battery life is, but with 2 included it I don't expect it to be a problem. My only complaint is I wish it had a small handle on the motor side to allow for additional leverage when cutting. ... show more

    • Great saw and package for the price
Light weight and cuts very good . I especially like the ability to oil the chain by a push of a button. All chain saws should have the ability to oil the chain easily . High speed chain creates alot of friction ,needs oil. Most of the hand held chainsaws do not have push button oilers.

Finally got it went thru a couple of large 3" limb and some smaller one even did a undercut to see it would work which it did. Couple issue I like to address in other review brush motor get hot and cannot be run constantly or they will lock up or burn up the brush. It even warm you in the user manual about that. Pro 1. Come with two battery but will accept Makita battery (note I verified this but haven't put it under cut load yet do try at your own risk. 2. Seem to have pretty good power. 3. Lite weight 4. Come with extra chain CON: 1. Long battery charging time 2. Not sure I like how wide the motor breathe slot are could get debris in the motor which will affect it... might get some window screen and glue over them. Hope this help you. ... show more

Mine died. I has barely 2 hours on it. I only cut small brush. The batteries still show a charge but the motor will not engage. BUYER BEWARE!
