  • I've supported MIlwaulkee for 20 years.....
How could a craftsman who's bought Milwaukee tools for over 20 years, (and many are Still in constant use), mark a "one star"? Two reasons: very very poor engineering and cheap brittle plastic. First of all I should have realized a change when my trusty 'ol 18 volt nicad Milwaukee drill slid off a chair onto a wood floor - and the handle snapped in half! Luckily I could buy the case, and after 2 hours of reassembly it is functioning again. Their plastic looks maleable, it is an illusion - it is incredibly brittle. The opposite of what is needed in a 'Heavy Duty" tool. So I should have known better than to buy this new set. I could find nothing amiss with the impact driver - it looks like good ol Milwaukee quality. But, believe me or not, the driver drill snapped in half too! And this was one half hour out of the box, drilling studs with a 1" spade bit for wiring. The bit caught on a knot, I resisted, and the drill snapped. Same brittle plastic. But far worse is the engineering / design of the drill. On a cursory inspection it looks strongly built. It's totally an illusion. All that holds the drill motor to the handle is two tiny pieces of brittle plastic hidden under pretty coverings. Amazon prime is wonderful, they refunded in full in short order. I so regret I did not take pictures of this pathetically designed tool broken in two in my hands! And I am no gorilla -( like those who still respect these Chinese made Milwaukees may need to presume). For me, 20 years of supporting them has come to an end until I learn they have recalled this tool And changed their plastic formulation. Next day I went out and bought a Bosch set, nearly the same price, with even better specs on torque. (Bosch CLPK23-180 18V 2-Tool Litheon Combo Kit) After careful inspection and hard use I can say they are designed very well. It seems Bosch hasn't gone the route of Milwaukee. Whew. My partner uses a Makita set, and as can certainly happen on a job site, eventually one fell a story and half. We just picked it up and kept going, as it should be. Makita is not quite as well built IMHO, but certainly a good second choice. I have never written a review before, hope it's useful. ... show more

  • Garbage, all of it. Finally threw it away!
I bought one of these sets and the drill and driver are good, but the two batteries that came with it (the 1.5 ah) were junk, totally dead and would not take a charge. I had ordered a third battery to have one in each tool and one in the charger (6ah battery) and that battery worked fine. I contacted Amazon and the sent me a whole new kit to remove the batteries from to replace my defective ones (since I was already using it with the third battery)- good service! The new kit arrived and it was the same exact thing, both of those batteries were junk. So I ordered two more of the 6ah batteries and they work good. I also tried the new charge that came with the kit and it was the same result. They clearly have a problem with the batteries. The only down side to the bigger 6ah batteries is they are much heavier, but do last longer. I really didn't need the extended time and would have preferred the lighter weight of the 1,5 ah batteries. But it all works fine now but I had to spend about an additional $67 to get the kit to work as shown (but with better batteries also). In the end it's a good toll as long as you factor in the price of buying batteries that actually work. I have no intention of going back to Amazon a second time to get batteries that work my time is worth something. The charger is also much slower than I expected. Next time I would spend a little more and get the Dewalt 20v. Update! Went to use one of bid new batteries from the charger. Dead. This stuff is junk!!! I threw it all away. Lesson learned! ... show more

  • REFURBISHED AND DEFECTIVE
I ordered this from Tidewater Industrial Tool Supply Company through Amazon.com. This was supposed to be a BRAND NEW tool set. The Impact Drill did not work RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX and one of the batteries did not charge and the indicator light on the charger said it was defective. So the drill and the battery for it were defective. I tried to return it but was told by Tidewater that IF YOU OPEN THE BOX YOU CAN NOT RETURN THE ITEM. HOW STUPID IS THAT????? So I called Milwaukee tool company. They said thier tools are covered by a 5 year warranty but if it is within the first 30 days that I should just return it to the place of purchase and have the tool replaced. So I contacted Amazon.com. They said they could not help me as Tidewater's return policy is that they will not accept it as a return. So I called Milwaukee tool company back and was told that they could not help me as the store selling the tool sets its own policy and they have no control over who sells their tools. So I called my credit card company. I used my Visa, which is supposed to have a returns department to help settle issues. I was told that the returns department does not handle returns of defective items....if the item was working properly they could of helped me return it!!!! Unbelievable how much trouble this item has caused me. So right now I filed a dispute over the charge with my credit card company. See where that goes. I am not hopeful. Lesson learned the hard way. I believe this was a factory-second or refurbished Milwaukee tool set that I paid new price for. NEVER PURCHASE FROM TIDEWATER INDUSTRIAL TOOL SUPPLY OR AMAZON.COM they will cheat you and Milwaukee tool company WILL NOT HELP YOU!!! ... show more
