Got this for my 6yo Grandchild. It works like it supposed to, it came with some slides that already had some specimens to view and some blank slide to find your own. It has a backlight to help with viewing, which is very nice and it does really help to see. There are a few viewing strengths to choose from to get really up close. Its pretty easy to figure out all these features and how to use them. Your supposed to be able to mount a cell phone camera up to it to take pictures of what your viewing as well, but we haven't tried using that. All of it works great, my only issue, if it is an issue, is that it is made of what feels like cheap plastic. Other than that, Id buy it again if this one ever fails or breaks.

We love our new microscope. It comes with different lenses to increase magnification. It has pre-made slides as well as blank slides you can make yourself. It has things like tweezers and vial to collect samples for your own specimens and it has some included you can use. I have a 10th grader who just got into microbiology and this was perfect timing because we can look at things like the onion slide provided and point out cell walls, or the stages of mitosis. My 2nd grader was also excited to view things and collect his own specimens to use and view under the microscope. We are very pleased with this and all the little parts and pieces to help you do your own investigative research.

This is a microscope designed to be used by kids. As such, I would not consider it equipment for a lab, but equipment for kids to use to practice for future lab work. It is a GREAT microscope, considering it's intended use and price point. It has a LOT of extra features that make this microscope a good purchase. An instruction manual is included. I would say kids ages ten and above would be able to read and understand the manual. Younger children may need some assistance. But that's okay. Microscopes are fun to mess around with, and what better quality time than to hang out with your kid and teach them about a microscope. It works, of course, like a lab quality microscope, and it goes from 40x to 800x, which is a surprisingly large span or magnification for a kid's microscope. It has bottom and top lights that work independently, and that is a great feature. There is a light adjustment knob, which is also a great feature. You'll have to use batteries for the lights and remind the kiddos to turn the lights off when not in use to save the batteries! The microscope comes with accessories to boost interest and learning, and also so the microscope can be fully explored and used. It has three prepared slides, so kids know what a professional slide should be like. It comes with blank slides, covers, and tools for kids to make their own slides. It even has a phone holder so kids can take pictures or make videos of their work. I had a microscope as a child, and I spent many hours preparing and looking at specimens. I loved using the microscope! I highly recommend this microscope for kids. Much more productive and entertaining than video games. Also a good choice for homeschooling, especially at this price point!
