  • OK dash kit, with one exception
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
The quality of this kit is in line with everything else Metra I've ever used- it's OK, not great, but at least it's cheap. I took it out of the bag and looked at the fit and finish, there was one area at an edge that looked awful... then I realized it's the edge down by the HVAC controls that you'll never see unless you lay upside down in the seat looking up. So I start trying to put this together and make heads or tails of all the little plastic bits. Next thing that jumps out at me- the instructions are pretty terrible. I got just enough out of them to kinda sorta figure out how everything works. I start assembling it following the directions for an ISO single-DIN radio. Once I'm about at the point of mounting the head unit in the "correct" adapter/pocket, I start noticing how janky the brackets for this setup are- apparently you're supposed to use a single screw into a screw insert you pop into a factory hole in the dash, and near as I can figure (from the awful instructions), that's all that's really supposed to hold your radio? WTF? I didn't finish the install like that, as the little sheet metal screws supplied (WTF again, my ISO DIN radio has M5 threaded holes, why use sheet metal screws?) were too small to bite into my Alpine. That's when I read the rest of the instructions, and facepalm. For a double-DIN radio, you take the nice metal side brackets off the OE radio, which securely bolt to the dash with 4x M6 bolts, and reuse them on your radio. Well WTF #3, if I can mount a double DIN radio all nice and proper like that, why don't I mount my single-DIN and an old universal DIN pocket that same way? So I go rummage through my stuff, but unfortunately can't find a DIN pocket laying around. I ended up buying a "universal" old school double-DIN dash kit from Worst Buy, just to use that pocket. Lest you wonder why I don't just use the pocket that this kit comes with- it's molded to the silly adapter bezel I tried to use initially, and lacks side mounting points to use the OE metal brackets. TLDR- It's not a bad kit, but it's totally handicapped by the fact that instead of including a janky, proprietary pocket/bracket for a single-DIN head, they should've just included a universal single-DIN pocket, and had you re-use the OE brackets either way. Using their pocket/bracket is 100% inferior to doing that, and I can't imagine how the radio would be at all secure, not just from theft but just from normal, everyday driving. ... show more

  • Metra, did you outsource you QA/QC to idiots? Or do you just not care?
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Metra, where is your QA/QC? Or do you just expect customers to accept a poor quality finish on your products? At least the finish color matches of which the Scosche model TA2052B couldn't even do that. It came in Gunmetal Gray, which isn't even close to the Toyota Tacoma's trim color of Bright Silver - the only trim color this truck model comes in. It was also a very poor paint job on that unit. Back to the Metra kit, which I just received today. It has a crap finish on it. Parts of it are in rough condition and are not even painted (see picture). While it is hard to see this area it IS visible and is unacceptable. I have requested a replacement. I will update this review based on my experiences with the next unit. Right now I'm not very pleased. At any rate Metra's and Scosche's lack of QA/QC is costing Amazon money. I've had to return both of these products upon receipt. ... show more

  • Silver with the dimples!
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
This unit is a perfect match for a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. It is silver with the dimples exactly like OEM. It says gray but it is Silver. Other brands say gray and they don’t have the dimples. Ken wood fits perfectly. Would by it again.

  • Good dash kit with decent fit and build quality
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Used this kit to install a double din radio on the '05 Tacoma. This kit has the textured center panel and color that closely matches the oem A/C controls panel. This kit also lets you use the oem radio brackets which prodive a solid fit and finish. Pros: well made and sturdy, textured panel and color matches the oem A/C controls panel, decent fit if you reuse your oem plastic white/yellow clips. No issues with the clock and hazard lights button and everything bolted up well. Allows you to reuse your oem radio brackets that hold the head unit better as well as give you more freedow of adjustment. Cons: Those stupid white snap clips that hold the radio panel to the dash. I lost three in the process of adjusting the headunit, so I reused the clips from the oem radio panel. The curved lip piece that surround the head unit could be better fit and better made since right now it has somewhat of a curved edged at the corners that leave too much open space betwee it and the head unit ... show more

  • Flimsy and crooked plastic trim
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Texture is perfect for 2006 Tacoma but unfortunately the plastic trim is so flimsy and crooked. It will not fit on Alpine ILX-W650. I don’t want to deal on trimming therefore returning the dash kit.

  • Worked, but plastic feels flimsy for use in a 4x4
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
The product is made of plastic and does not stand up well to use with metal screws. One area needed to be cut and cleaned up because the plastic molding was a bit sloppy where things were tight. It worked for me, but Im half expecting the radio to rip free of its plastic prison when I drive down a rough dirt road. The mount I removed from the factory cd player was thick metal. Exterior looks clean and symmetrical, so that counts as a positive. If everything stays together Ill say Im satisfied. ... show more

  • Good product, just very cheep as you might expect
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
This products works as it should but all the plastics feel very week amd you will need to use some douple sided tape to prevent things from rattling (witch this kit does alot of) the silver face is textured like oem.
