The media could not be loaded. This is our first metal detector & it is SO much FUN! We keep finding metal objects in our yard, that were left behind by the previous owners, & I have stepped on a few of them. They seem to be in a general area where we believe they had bonfires. I want to avoid anyone else stepping on the foreign metal objects & thought it would be HELPFUL to have a metal detector. I read several Amazon reviews & decided upon this metal detector. Assembly took hubby all of 5 minutes, if that. We installed 2 rechargeable 9v batteries, & went to work. The detector is USER FRIENDLY (even for a newbie to detecting), it detects ALL metal, & feels SOLID, & works WELL. It has a CASE to store/transport it in, though you do need to REMOVE the detector screen to store the metal detector in the carrying case. All you have to do is detach the wiring harness, which is a 2 second process. The detector comes with the manual, detector pieces, a carrying case, AND a handy FOLDING hand shovel, which even has it's own separate storage pouch, which is great because it keeps dirt from off the shovel OUT of the main case. As shown in the video, it is VERY easy to select ALL metal types. Tap the SET button TWICE & then ENTER, and you are READY to detect. It has a screen backlight, which you can leave off to conserve battery life. It also has VOLUME settings & the CAPABILITY of adding a headset, should you desire (headset NOT included). The unit feels SOLID, though NOT terribly heavy, it can tire your arm out if you use it for a long time (especially for a newbie like me). Battery life is GREAT, with our USB rechargeable batteries (NOT included). The batteries were half charged when we installed them & still were about the same when we finished using it about 2 hours later. It is GREAT being able to use rechargeable batteries in it, to save money. The ARM REST is COMFORTABLE & the ARM STRAP is SECURE, which makes for a comfortable exploring experience. My older/taller kids can use it without any issue (tween plus) when using the ARM REST, as they are 5' & taller. My shorter kids can use it too, though they can't use the arm rest because they are too short, it does NOT stop them. lol Overall, we are VERY happy with the metal detector. It has SUCCESSFULLY found various items in the old bon fire area, like screws, nails, pennies, shards of metal, etc. VERY grateful those are pieces of metal, etc that will NOT be going into my feet, nor that of my hubby, kids, or critters. This is a GREAT starter detector & also seems like it would also be great for the SEASONED metal adventurer too. Not sure what else one would need in a detector, because this seems to have it all. This metal detector is great and fun for the entire family. It is light weight, has all the tools needed (digging equipment included), and it is pretty effective. First thing I will say when using this is to check the location you are going to use this at. Some places do not actually allow metal detectors to be used. This could include some beaches. The device is pretty simple to setup. You just need to do some assembly but not too much. You honesty just have three pieces you need to put together. It runs on batteries and can last several hours before recharge. It could essentially last a full day if needed. The next thing is that it comes with a carrying bag. This is an okay carrying bag however the material is pretty thing. It is water proof though. This device was able to detect items at least a foot down. I found several metal objects about a foot down. Nothing deeper than that. The shovel works well at digging holes. It is a short shovel so expect to crouch down. If you have a bad back, just ge aware of that. The next thing is the orange makes it pretty easy to spot you so if you are walking around closer to the night time you are easy to see. It is very easy to use and no additional setup is required. I would recommend you hold this at most 3 inches above the surface. It is able to detect through grass, dirt, and sand. Overall this is a pretty fun device to have. You can find all sort of random things but be careful when digging stuff up as objects could be sharp. It is a must for those beach days but be sure to research if it is allowed before trying it out. ... show more

I remember metal detecting when I was a kid and thought then that it was the coolest thing! We recently lost a part off our lawn mower and thought, why not? We might find the part. I practiced a bit in the back yard and have to say that it really does detect. I threw some screws in the lawn and I was able to find them. After that, I thought that I could do this! Well, I took this to the beach and tried it out in a real life situation and learned a lot! You cannot have it set too sensitive or you pick up every little piece of garbage you can imagine. Turn down the sensitivity and then another setting to adjust is the depth that it will detect..I turned it to about 6 to 8 inches. That was about how deep I could dig with one hand! I also learned that the sound even at the highest setting was easily covered by the crashing of the waves! Headset is definitely needed! A digging tool came with the unit that was awesome and very helpful! The directions that came with the unit are very helpful and gives tips on how to adjust all the settings. The detector is also not too heavy at all, the grip and Velcro attachment to your arm makes it easy to swing this thing for hours. This unit is really great and works fabulously! I just have to teach myself to make it easier to detect treasure and get some extra supplies like a sand sifter! Loved the experience and met many people on the beach wondering if I found anything valuable yet! Yup, I did, a penny! But it was real fun! That is my lucky penny now! ... show more

    • Marginal Metal Detector - Wrong Instructions Included - Battery connectors are offset incorectly

Really was excited at first - neatly packed and easy to assemble. Could not get the first unit purchased to power on with new Energizer batteries - ordered replacement and it, too did not power up. Upon closer inspection, you could see that the battery terminal alignment was slightly off and the batteries were not terminating unless you rolled and pushed the batteries down. Got both to work, but was suspect of it having issues when being used. Once running and figured out, it performed marginally and in fact, the Radio Shack model we were replacing was better. It detected different copper, silver and gold coins at depths the Sunpow could not - definitely not 5 stars - gave it three because it was packed well - JayDogUSA ... show more
