So, thanks to the other reviews I knew I was in for it with the sound... Before I even showed my son it existed, I stuffed some paper on the speaker and used black duct tape to hold it. It makes the sounds much more tolerable. I don't think it's very accurate, but it is sensitive and goes off all the time so he's happy as a lil lark. I bought this for my grandson as I have one and we would share mine. I got this for him and wow was he surprised & thrilled. We went out the next day. We didn't find a lot, a few coins, a nail, but he was so excited. It is so easy for a young person to use, he is 9 and will keep until he's a teen. Very user friendly. In fact I used his sometime instead of mine. Great price for the Detector that came along with a bag and digging tools. I told him he didn't have to wear/bring the bag, but he insisted. So cute!! My 7yo granddaughter considers herself somewhat of a spy/ treasure hunter/ pirate so she knew exactly what it was and announced she had “the coolest” present out of everybody! She immediately wanted to stop opening presents so she could go check it out! It was very easy to set up and use (for a 7yo!) and it was pretty good at finding some things. It went off on one place and we used the included shovel and rake and dug up a rock. Well, she decided the reason it went off on a rock is because it must have gold in it! Lol! When my grandson and granddaughter moved here last June my wife and I would take them to the beach. I told him how I used to metal detect and all of the things I used to find. A while back my daughter lost her gold necklace and we have a 3 acre yard and couldn't find it anywhere, so we decided to buy this.. it took a few tries to get the hang of it but I assure you it works, we found tons of rusted nails and things but not our gold necklace.
