My dad and I put this together under half an hour. The first step is a little confusing—it’s important to get step 1 and 2 correct before proceeding or else you’ll have to reassemble everything. This twin size foundation, not a spring, was fairly easy to build, but it took me over 1 1/2 hrs. The cover material is thin, looks and feels nice, and it fits tightly on the piece. Had 2 size screws, came with an extra of each.

We had an old wooden box springs (actually, no springs were in it; it was a reinforced wooden box covered in thin foam and mattress cover material). However, as mattresses have increased in thickness from 8 inches to 12-15 inches, the height of our bed has increased as well. We desired a way to lower that height while still providing good support under the mattress, and this foundation (we'll use this term rather than "box springs") was a perfect choice. While the foundation appeared daunting as a bunch of metal rails inside a box, it was quite easy to assemble. Most of the components were preassembled and fit together easily. Screws of various sizes were provided, along with an Allen wrench for tightening. All of the screws fit in their proper places, and were not difficult to tighten (and, while the Allen wrench was handy, if you have a ratcheting driver with the proper size bit, it makes assembly even quicker). The top of the foundation is covered with small metal slats that snap into brackets provided for them. The whole thing went together in probably a half-hour for a queen size bed. And, once assembled, it was clearly a very sturdy foundation for our mattress, and fit perfectly in our antique wooden bed. While we would have preferred the cover actually be a zippered bag that would completely enclose the frame, we did not think it warranted losing a star. The provided cover works more like a mattress pad, with elastic corners and retaining straps. It has a nice nonslip surface on top to keep your mattress in place. Just be aware that it is best put on the frame AFTER you have laid the foundation in your bed. Best of all, this foundation was only five inches thick, replacing our old nine-inch foundation, and getting our bed height back where we wanted it. Highly recommend!
