My wife and I (along with some help from our 9yo son) assembled this product over two days in about 14-15hrs. The instructions are mostly visual like Ikea instructions, but it's still easy to make a mistake if you don't triple check the pictures. One tiny dot (a grommet) on the drawing can be missed and then you're spending time dissembling a major support beam because it's on backwards. Overall, we are very happy with the results, and the engineering is very well designed e.g. the camming mechanism for the louvers work very well. When the louvers are fully closed, the pergola's roof is waterproof under steady rain without a lot of wind. The beams act as gutters and downspouts, and are cleverly designed. Also, a full-sized adult male can also do pull ups on the Pergola without any creaking, bending or wobbling.

Can't really speak to ease of assembly....I hired someone to do it. ($700) It's extremely sturdy and seems to be a high quality product. Very glad I did my homework and purchased this one. It's exactly what I wanted. ONLY THING IS I ORDERED WHITE and RECEIVED GRAY but it works so it's fine. Another reviewer mentioned the same thing so I had a feeling I wasn't going to get the white, I don't think they make it. Pergola also came with a small crack in one of the posts (see pics) but it doesn't seem to jeopardize the integrity so I'm living with it. It does arrive with screens and curtains that seem nice but they were "bulky" to me - I wanted a clean look. Buy it....you won't be dissapointed.

I looked at several different brands for a pergola and finally decided on this one. It turned out to be a great decision. Reviews of one of the other brands had several comments about the pergola arriving on one 800 pound pallet and how hard it was to get it off the truck and moved to reasonable spot. The Mellcom product came via Fedex in eight separate boxes all weighing under 100 pounds. The Fedex driver easily put each box in back of my house out of sight. Having different boxes each with its own shipping number means they may arrive on different days, but the company had sent me a message to expect that so it was no problem. The product is well packaged and arrived without any damage even though the boxes had obviously been banged around a bit. Inside the boxes, each part is individually wrapped in protective packaging and color coded with tape to indicate which parts go together. As you unpack the boxes, just stack tape colors together and you will have the parts needed for a page in the assemble instructions. When you unwrap the parts each one has a sticker with a letter on it to match the instruction manual directions. The instruction manual is all pictures, but it is pretty easy to follow and most of the parts are engineered to only go together one way so it is really hard to assemble it incorrectly. The only thing that was confusing was the way the curtains and screens go on. There are six separate panels for each one and a single panel installs on both sides of a post with straps in the middle of the panel to attach to the post. The middle panels are easy, they have five eyelets on each side, but the four corner panels have five eyelets on one side and six on the other. Contrary to what would seem logical, the six eyelets go on the short side of the pergola and the five eyelets go on the long side of the pergola. Be sure you put all of the hooks for the curtains in the frame of the pergola during assembly - you will have a couple of extra but that is good in case you ever break one. Reviews on one of the other brands I looked at had comments about how long it took to assemble the louvers. On this model, the louvers are completely assembled and snap into place. It took less than 30 minutes to put all the louvers on the frame. Total assemble time was about six to seven hours, but I did it all by myself over the course of three days. It was July and pretty hot and I wasn't in any hurry. If you had two people working on it you could probably do it in four hours. The company sent me an email right after I ordered the product with a customer service contact if I had any questions, but I never had to use it. Like I said, the only thing that I had a problem with was hanging the curtains. Overall quality for the product is excellent. The materials used are strong, it doesn't seem cheap at all, and the engineering was great. Everything fits together well. I would say it is 95% waterproof. I get some rain splash along the center beam, but the area under the louvers stays completely dry.

20x10, it arrived and we felt a bit …no, very intimidated at the prospect of this project. We couldn’t wait weeks for our friends, as we were excited (and impatient ), so decided to tackle it ourselves. 2 women assembled it from start to finish - including anchoring it to cement slab (we rented a hammer drill folks!) The directions were perfect - clear pictures and easy to follow. The parts all fit, which is not always true of these pre-manufactured items. 2 supporting legs were damaged, and we are in discussions with the manufacturer on that. BUT - we got everything assembled, everything works, everything looks great - and the 2 of us (women with zero experience) completed it in 13.5-14hrs, over 2 days! Including raising the frame and assembling all 4, then 7 sections. Highly recommend in terms of quality, price, ease of installation, and overall experience!!

I rarely write reviews, but I had to for this product. This product iwell designed and easy to put together. The shipping was quick and arrived in five separate boxes. I was nervous about when things were going to be shipped and contacted customer services, and they immediately replied, and provided tracking numbers. Everything was individually wrapped, so nothing could be scratched or damaged and well labeled . all parts needed were shipped nothing missing . Instructions were easy to follow, and was put up by my husband and I. We had the frame up within four hours. We could not install louvers as weather changed on us. Will complete the project this weekend. Will provide an update and pictures. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a well constructed and quality pergola.
