It's bigger and heavier than the plastic version, but that's good, it will fit over larger sized mugs. It came with a few #4 filters, but works just fine with #2 for my 12 oz mug. Pour-over coffee is our favorite now. We have other options but pour-over is the go to every day, and has been since nearly one year ago. We even purchased a nice gooseneck electric pour over electric kettle to make this even easier (see picture). Since first using a plastic Melitta #6 filter holder over forty years ago I’ve only used plastic ones. Looking to add another one-cup holder I found this white porcelain one. This is worth the extra cost. it won’t degrade or split from drying out over time the way plastic ones will. Granted, plastic filter holders last a long time and are mostly unbreakable. But this porcelain filter holder will outlast them all, is nice to use and look at, has a very comfortable loop handle, and is large enough for #2 or #4 filters. I’m very happily using it for #2 filters to drip coffee for my wife while I drip mine through the plastic #2 holder. ... show more

I very seldom leave reviews, but I am really pleased with this item. I am finally getting truly delicious, enjoyable coffee in the morning. Many reviews complained that the filter cone is too large and too heavy. Yes, it is large. Yes, it is heavy. But these are insignificant factors compared to the effectiveness of the filter cone. After switching to plant-based creamers I discovered that they require a larger volume of creamer to achieve the desired taste and color (who knew color mattered?). But the larger volume of creamer alters the temperature of the coffee. I actually had given up coffee for a few years as a result. Lately, I have been trying to find an alternate brewing method. Most pour-over arrangements are slow (that's the point, after all) and result in a coffee that is not as hot. However, this porcelain filter cone is large enough that it takes a sufficient amount of water to allow for an adequate brew, while still dripping through quickly enough to result in a noticeably hotter cup of coffee. For me, it really is a perfect cup! I highly recommend this filter cone. ... show more

    • Surprisingly Not Thrilled By This Melitta

Update 2: After using this Melitta for some time now, I now see where it leaks--yes, it does leak, and badly. First, it does spill over the sides, but that can be controlled. But more importantly, I saw that it leaks out of the viewing ports that I mentioned before. Coffee will actually curl around the side of the viewing port and onto the base of the cone, then onto the countertop. This cannot be controlled. All you can do is hope that it doesn't happen. It doesn't always happen, but it does most of the time. Update 1: When you find yourself rummaging through the recycling bin to find the product box so that you can return the item, that officially means it's time to downgrade it to one star. I've tried several things to make this Melitta cone work. I even plugged up the exit hole on the bottom with a spoon handle to help it drain slower. As for the leak problem, I tried using it on a dinner plate, so that I could wash off the plate instead of having to wipe down the counter. If this had been some off-brand, I would understand. But I paid extra, only to get an inferior product. I regret buying this. Original review below: ____ I like a good, stiff cup of coffee, so I decided to pay extra for a Melitta brand pour-over cone. I thought I was showing my allegiance to Melitta, plus I thought it would simply be a better pour-over cone than generic ones. Not so. The curved sides--why? They make for a pretty, swoopy design, but they allow coffee to spill over the sides. I like to give the coffee a little stir, too, which only adds to the spill problem. The viewing ports--why? I get it. To cure the age-old problem of calculating how much water to add to the top, without encountering the dreaded flooding problem. But if you're a Melitta pro, you know how to do this. They are nice, yes, but they also allow the coffee to cool down faster. They allow splashes to exit. Two viewing ports--why? If we have to have viewing ports, why two of them? It's not hard to rotate the cup 180 degrees to look into a port. Oversized exit hole--why? The drip hole at the bottom of the cone is larger than the previous cone I was using. This means that the coffee drains out faster, giving you a less rich cup of coffee. This could be standard, and I might be wrong. But it's not working for me. ... show more

    • Good Old Melitta -- A Bit Heavy

It's a perfectly usable Melitta filter, though it is heavier than the old plastic ones. But if you're worried about plastic, this one is fine. I do notice a little splashing through the holes on the sides when I used it with tall cups. I haven't dropped it yet. I suspect that would be the end.

I love drip coffee and I grew up with Melita filters. The updated shape with the view into the cup is a welcomed change. While it only has one hole, the coffee does flow through fast enough.

So this pour over coffeemaker is large enough to use the #4 filters and make at least 2 cups possibly more. It does need a wide diameter cup, mug or vacuum insulated bottle or mug on which to sit. I like that there is a small hole in the bottom of the cone so the coffee is a bit restricted and is then able to develop more flavor. But the best part is the iridescent dark gray color with a hint of brown underneath. It is gorgeous. And it makes a delicious cup of coffee too. ... show more
