I wanted a low cost and decent quality roof top carrier for our 2023 Subaru Outback for a long road trip because our large dog needs a lot of space in the rear of the car. I am very impressed with the quality of the bag. I was concerned that this would be the weak link, but it is extremely well made. The zipper is heavy duty and works very well. The seaming of the bag is impressive, it is airtight when fully zipped. To back that up, our trip was 3,000 miles and the last 10 hours of the drive was in the proverbial torrential downpour nonstop. Zero water intrusion, we had 3 large duffel bags inside and not even dampness on the outside of the luggage. The rack is fine, I will only mount the rack for trips, otherwise it would eventually rust being that we are in the Midwest. The bag has 2 tie down straps on each corner and secured the bag to the rack very well - they only need to be snugged to minimal tension and will be fine. I spent 30 to 40 minutes adjusting the straps initially. I think it was time well spent because after that all you need to do is unbuckle them when you want to take your bag off. The mounting hardware is good quality. A tip in addition to the strap tension - when assembling the rack, I used Fluid Film and sprayed inside the joining tubes of the rack to protect the tube insides from water and rust. I also coated the rubber sleeves with Fluid Film to make it easier to move them around during assembly because they fit tight. Also, when we got home, I removed the rack and wiped it down with Fluid Film for corrosion protection during storage. For $200 you can't go wrong with this rack and bag. ... show more

This rack comes with a water-resistant luggage protection bag, a cargo net, and two ratcheting straps. I liked the spacing of the bars on the bottom compared to others I saw. The metal is hardened steel and strong, the only weakness I saw was the screws used to fasten the three sections together. I used a 3/16” drill bit and drilled all the way through the tubes and then inserted 10-32 stainless steel bolts and nylon locking nuts in the four places that hold the three sections together. I then cut off any protruding bolt beyond the nut for a smooth surface. This made it much stronger. I also put silicone sealer in each tube before inserting them into each other to ensure water did not get inside the tubing. I am very happy with the completed assembly. I knocked off one star due to the small screws instead of bolts to hold the three sections together. ... show more

I found the rack easy to assemble and it seems heavy duty. We used it on our first trip and hit some light rain on the return trip. Everything remained dry in the bag and the bag stayed secure to the rack. Very happy with this purchase and would recommend to others.

I got my tail hitch 12 months ago and it has been such a great way to increase trunk space with my Toyota Highlander which has almost no trunk. It’s impressive that you can open the trunk with the hitch and bag attached while the bag is full! The bag is clutch when traveling in Florida where it rains daily and keeps your luggage dry and safe. And the bag looks sleek and I have gotten many comments and compliments on such a cool way to travel and increase space with luggage. On our most recent road trip the zipper of the bag broke when we were unloading the car as we got home. I reached out to customer service who were quick with their response and helped me to come up with a solution. I am so impressed by their product and their customer service. We travel frequently with the hitch attached and now we can continue using our hitch as they solved the issue. ... show more

We purchased our first unit in early June, but had to return it because the basket wouldn't go together correctly. It was slightly bent, and no amount of attempting to bend it back in shape would work. Their customer service was excellent, and they tried to help, but to no avail, so we returned it. Decided to give it another shot, and this time was successful! It went together with no problem. I cannot say enough good about this car-top unit. We filled it on July 14, drove for two days from Ohio to North Dakota, then had to leave it on the car for about 2 1/2 weeks more as we waited for our new home to be available. Everything was unloaded and there was no evidence of any problems AT ALL! No leaks, no tears, and the straps did not loosen. The only problem I have now is the fact that I can't find my car in the WalMart parking lot because there's no big orange ornament on top. LOL!! ... show more

We bought this for an 1,800+ mile trip from VA to CO. This thing was a lifesaver. We drove through below zero temperatures & lots of snow and wind without any issues. As you can see the frozen snow pictured above. Our belongings remained dry throughout the whole trip. So to break it down: Pros: - easy installation - weather proof - tons of space - didn’t budge during the trip - comes with a lock Cons: - straps seemed cheaply made although worked for us - for us, it would easily bottom out bc I have a small SUV so just be mindful if your SUV is low to the ground Overall, great purchase and we can’t imagine our trip without it! ... show more
