Purchased for a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. Did not want the commitment of a hardtop box. Easy to place on the car and position. Easy to cinch straps down tightly. Unused straps can be buckled and cinched down to prevent the Velcro lip from flipping up while driving. I only have side rails, no crossbars, and found using four straps felt more than secure. Minimal noise while driving 65-80mph highway/interstate. Minimal impact to fuel economy. Drove through several severe storms (heavy rain, small hail, wind) and everything stayed bone dry. Sturdy zippers. Strong Velcro. Material feels strong even when hot from being in the sun. Easy to repack into storage bags when not in use (let it warm up in the sun for a bit, much easier to manipulate/fold). I was able to fit: 1 fully packed 60l Mystery Ranch backpack, 1 fully packed 50l Osprey backpack, 1 medium weight sleeping bag, a 4-person Coleman Sunroom tent, two camp chairs and small folding table, milkcrate of misc gear, 5 gal bucket of misc gear, 2 10x10 tarps, picnic blanket, tarp poles, misc bag of supplies for dog. I was a bit skeptical to use this product but was encouraged by the overwhelming good reviews. I have now used it on one trip (approx 1500 miles total) and had no issues with it. We did not go through any heavy rain but did encounter a few sprinkles along the way and everything remained dry. After installing it, adding the luggage inside, and tying it down with the built in straps i decided to secure it with another strap to have some added peace of mind (following with other user's commented in the reviews). Overall the bag did the job it was advertised to do and held up pretty well. I didn't see any damage or tears on the bag from this first trip so i am confident it can be used for a few more trips which makes this a good investment from my vantage point. I have roof top racks on my car so i strapped it to that and did not have a need to use the hooks that come with it. ... show more

First of all let me say this, the bag did almost exactly what it was supposed to do with very little problems, it did however have a pretty huge drawback. We bought the bag to make a trip from New York to missouri, around 15 and a half hours. It was extremely easy to install on the top of our Honda CRV, extremely easy to load, and everything construction wise seemed extremely solid. During the 15 and a half hours it didn't budge an inch. We drove back in some pretty heavy rain, and although it was mid April, some decently heavy snow. Maybe about a an eighth of a cup of water made its way into the bag, so I personally would call that decently waterproof. The one huge drawback, that I did not see anyone else talk about, is the extreme loss in fuel economy. On the way to new york, without the bag on top, our Honda CRV got right around 35 miles to the gallon. With the bag on top, loaded pretty full, we barely got 20. I think I probably could have solved that problem by packing smaller stuff into the front and larger stuff into the back to give it more of a swoop and allowing it to be more aerodynamic, but the boxes we had to move just didn't allow for that. I'm 100% happy with my purchase, without it we would not have been able to bring back half of what we did, I just thought I should warn people about the fuel efficiency issue. We are 100% going to be using the bag again when we make a trip to Massachusetts this summer, we are just going to pack it more intelligently. ... show more

This bag is HUGE. It fit all of our luggage (me, wife, and 3 teenagers) and still had room for more. The anti-slip mat get the top of our car from getting scratched up as well. Issues I found: difficult to get strapped down tight (once I got it, it was good). The long straps have to also be tied up, otherwise they hit the car constantly. There's no way to cinch the front, so, if you don't fill it right, it becomes essentially a parachute. We did lose gas mileage, but, that's also due to the fact that we were on a two week vacation and we were loaded to the bills, so, weight also played into the mpg. Because it's a bag, I felt the need to watch the car constantly to make sure someone wasn't trying to get into it. However, we will definitely use it again, it was affordable, convenient, and effective. ... show more

Drove from Cleveland to Tampa and back with our luggage in this thing. Luggage all arrived safe and dry despite driving in some very heavy rain at times. As you can see from my pics, it does not look as pretty and formed as the product pictures show. It will take the form of what you have in it. The straps were ok, but I didn't trust them and secured it with a heavy duty tie down. In really heavy headwinds things got a little shaky but I slowed down and we were ok. Pros: cheaper than the hardshells Cons: on an SUV it was difficult to get stuff in and out. We had to take a small ladder with us. But we made it work. ... show more

I loved this for my 1,500 mile move. It rained for the first 600 miles and all of my stuff stayed dry BUT I had to use my own straps to attach it to my car. Their anchors for under the weather lining on a car without a rack did nothing. I added two ratchet straps and ran them through the inside of my car and they worked like a charm.
