Perfect lightweight manual wheelchair for traveling, especially in the airport. In order to put a manual wheelchair in the airplane cabin close where you are sitting will require a light weight wheelchair. Cabin is not guaranteed to be available for use. Otherwise the wheelchair must go into the cargo below. If a wheelchair is put in the cargo section you would need terminal transport for assistance to take you to your destiny either to another gate or the final luggage pick up and wait for your wheelchair. If you have a lightweight manual wheelchair it will most likely be able to be put in the cabin closet. If you need a leg lift for your personal condition this wheel chair works perfectly. The leg lift is adjustable. It's great if you need to keep your leg up during wait times or down to rest. It's easy to use if you do exactly what the wheelchair instructions say. If you want to use the transport service at the airport the transporters are all certified in transporting you in your K4. You will need to contact your specific airline to get assistance ahead of time for transport service. I highly recommend the transporter if someone who is with you is not familiar with transporting. Some maneuvers such as going in and out of an elevator can be tricky without the knowledge of how to maneuver as the wheels can get stuck. It's not a defect of the wheelchair, it is a non-familiar knowledge of how not to make the wheels get stuck. It is a smooth transition if you have someone who pushes you who knows how to. Going straight or a slight curve is easy to do for the novice. I highly recommend that whoever you personally have to push your wheelchair for you look online on how to make the transitions and turns smooth. Travel distance can be a very long walk so having a lightweight wheel chair makes the transport much easier then the heavier classic models. The wheelchair is lighter than most manual wheelchairs and it makes it easier to put in and out of a car if need be. It does take up a good amount of cargo car space even after the leg lifts are taken off. The width of the K4 model is great when you need to condense space. The leg lifts are easy to take off once you understand how the mechanism works. The leg lift has to be turned all the way out, then it gets lifted up easily on the MDS806565E K4 Basic model. If while transporting the soft calf can be moved to the side if need be for more comfort. The foot rest will still be attached, however, the soft calf pads are optional for use. You can still use the foot rests even if the calf rests are not being used. If you want a greater space for sitting and storage for a purse, blanket or any other small items I recommend looking into purchasing the next size up wider seat from what will actually fit you normally. It's well worth the extra up-charge for the extra space. I also recommend looking for a seat pad to place on the seat for more comfort while traveling or long periods of sitting. There are many to choose from for personal preference that can be purchased separately from various companies here on Amazon. We only needed this wheelchair for short term. However it was well worth the cost over renting or replacement cost if the rental would have gotten lost or damaged in traveling. The price and quality of the Medline K4 is fabulous. The Medline company has been around for many years , and has an excellent customer service, They were contacted before and after the purchase of our K4, and they were very helpful.

Comes assembled just put on the feet which is easy. Very comfortable and glides nicely. Not to heavy..l can pick it up myself at age 70. Easy to fold up to store. Well built. Great for the price. l recommend this one.

I bought this chair (my first, as a recent AKA amputee) almost a month ago and generally love it, although it did not come with anti-tip bars. However, I noticed today that the left big wheel was wobbling a bit. On closer inspection I saw it had come away from the frame. Turning the chair on its side (surprise, it folded itself!) I was able to pound the wheel back onto its bearing with my hand. I then set about to tighten the wheel. The multi-tool provided by Medline with the five punchouts for different size nuts does not have a size that fits the nut on the frame. Also, the left and right inner nuts are different...one appears to be regular nut with a washer and one is a self-locking. Perhaps quality control needs tightening up?

Great product and Great buy. Very easy to setup right out of the box. We purchased it for the wife (154 lbs) to use in the home on carpet and to the Dr appointments during her foot surgery. It was cheaper to buy than rent/lease and don't have to worry about hidden bacteria in the small nooks and crannies from past use. The foot and leg adjustments are very easy to use. Sturdy for her size and would be fine for me (5'11", 194 lbs).. She says it's comfortable with the seat cushion we bought separately, and it rolls up under the dining room table for meals. I can put it in the backseat of our trucks easily enough. Durable and sturdy and easy to move in. Great value for the money.

I bought this wheelchair for my grandmother and it has been an excellent choice. From the first use, you can tell it’s very good quality: the frame is sturdy and the materials feel durable. The seat and backrest are comfortable, even for sitting for long periods. But what we liked the most is the footrest area: the footrests can be raised and lowered very easily, which is ideal for an elderly person since it doesn’t require much effort or constant assistance. Plus, they are padded, which adds even more comfort. The wheels move smoothly and it’s easy to maneuver both indoors and on smooth outdoor surfaces. It’s also practical because it can be folded and stored without taking up much space. Overall, it’s a very functional, safe, and comfortable wheelchair. I definitely recommend it.

I've had this wheelchair for a while now, and just wanted to update my review. I have used it on one short excursion outside. Other than that I only use it in my home, and only in the rooms with wooden floors. I still think this is the best manual chair I could have bought in my price range. It's been very helpful, and I still use it every day. That said, I don't want to mislead anyone into buying this chair if it isn't right for you. Pros: 1. Still rolls as well as it did out of the box, at least on smooth, flat surfaces. The slipping has not gotten worse. 2. Much easier to self-propel (at least for short bursts) when I lower the backrest as far as possible and swing the armrests up. Cons: 1. The seat and backrest are both sagging. 2. The wheels are super far back, and can't be adjusted. Even with the backrest down and the armrests out, this is hard on my shoulders. 3. The elevating leg rests (which were originally a selling point for me) are already in pretty bad shape. One of them is very resistant to being swung out, and then continuously slips out of place after being put back. The other sticks when adjusting upwards. 4. With the leg rests, I'd estimate this thing weighs about 40 pounds. Especially being a folding chair, meaning it loses some momentum between moving parts, it gets very tiring to push whether you're in the seat or walking behind it. 5. There is absolutely zero shock absorption. Even relatively smooth sidewalks are noticeably bumpy. 6. The side guards are pretty pointless since I can't use this outside, so they're just extra weight. 7. The slipping hasn't gotten worse, but it also hasn't improved. I would recommend this wheelchair if: 1. You just need one for a few months max, you won't need to leave the house in it, and either you can stand and walk for short periods of time, or you live with someone who can help you if you get stuck. 2. You need to prove to your doctor/family/insurance/self/etc that a wheelchair would help you, before committing to a more expensive one. Just keep this chair's limitations in mind. I would NOT recommend this wheelchair if: 1. You cannot stand or walk at all, and have no one to assist you. 2. You need postural support. 3. You're counting on the elevating leg rests to hold up over time. 4. You have any issues with your back/neck/shoulders/etc that could be exacerbated by the position of the wheels, and/or the weight of the chair. 5. You intend to use the chair outside at all, but especially self-propelling. 6. You are looking for the lightest chair possible. Try "ultra lightweight" instead (a weight category, not a brand). If insurance is not an option, some places offer payment plans. Original Review: A couple of details about my mobility situation, so anyone reading this review will know if it's relevant for them or not: basically, I "can walk," but it's hard on my joints, and leaves me very weak and dizzy. I put a lot of research into picking this chair. I was looking for something affordable that I could maneuver smoothly, that would fit in our apartment, and that I could adjust easily to suit my knees throughout the day. I'm still getting the hang of it, and mostly use it to get around the kitchen, which is the largest space we have with a hard floor. Even having it as an option in a single room has been very freeing! I'm especially happy with the leg rests. I work from home at a computer all day, and staying in any position too long is really bad for my knees. So I'm excited to finally have a "work chair" that I can easily adjust. (Note: to adjust the leg rests upwards, I push them with my feet. To put them back down, I lean forward and grip the levers attached to each one.) The chair itself was pretty easy to assemble, and came with everything I needed to just put it together right out of the box. I think I had some trouble with the leg rests, but I got them on eventually. So far we've only taken it outside once. I was able to wheel myself maybe 25% of the time and my spouse had to push me the other 75%. I'm sure a lot of that is down to me having bad shoulders and not a lot of practice. No fault of the product. I wasn't expecting this to be an "outdoor chair," at least not without buying some accessories, like treads more suited for different terrains. (I was totally fine wheeling myself around the store that we went to, I just couldn't do it outside for very long.) I do sometimes notice the wheels sliding on the floor instead of turning, but very rarely. I think I just need to learn the best way to distribute my weight. I would DEFINITELY recommend anti-tippers if your legs can't support you on short notice, especially if you're new to wheelchairs! I've leaned too far out a few times and tipped the whole thing forward, ending up with me standing on the foot rests on the ground. The chair itself has held up well to that, no warping or straining that I've noticed. All in all I'm very happy with this product. It suits my needs very well, especially for the price. A good chair to begin my journey with!
