If there's only one option, it likely means you have a dual-band router, in which case your MEATER device will automatically connect to the 2.4Ghz band. Your network has to be unhidden. LAN to WLAN Multicast and Broadcast must be enabled. If your router router supports Airtime Fairness, this feature needs to be disabled.

  • WiFi failed after 5 weeks - check your home network, all of it.
Update - make sure if you have a WiFi repeater on your network that you may need to reset that in addition to your router. I have no idea why every other item in my house worked fine and this didn’t. But I reset that device and now this is working again. So back to a 5 start review. Loved this thing for as long as it worked, all of 5 weeks. It’s great to be able to set the probes in the meat I’m cooking, leave the block next to my Traeger, and then using the WiFi I was able to monitor anywhere in the house. That was until thanksgiving day when this device all of a sudden refused to connect to my WiFi. It can see the networks but not connect. Spent an hour trouble shooting and finally gave up and started the turkey without. Did more trouble shooting including the following: 1) new batteries 2) factory reset of device 3) deleted and reloaded the iOS app 4) checked network - all other devices worked fine 5) tried to connect MEATER block to another WiFi (my phones personal hotspot) and it still didn’t work. 6) went into my home network router and defined a static IP address for the MEATER’s MAC address in case there was an issue there with assigning a MAC address, nope. 7) tried again when less people at my house thinking maybe it was a bandwidth issue and still won’t connect. NONE IF THE ABOVE WORK! I’m out of ideas. I’ve reached out to customer service and will update if able. ... show more

  • Great concept, needs more thought in the execution
**update** 12/11/19 **update** I wanted to provide a small note here that I'm not pretty sure that the probes are only charged via the USB and the actual unit that is reading the probes uses battery. I think this to be true because my probes were on the charger for quite some time, i went out for a cook and it started telling me my unit (meater block) was low on battery. No big deal i thought, i grabbed the charger and plugged it in, to my surprise it did nothing. I had to change the batteries out. This is a huge waste of money if you're having to purchase or even recharge additional batteries. why not just have the unit charge with the charging wire!?? If i could send this back at this point, I would. I really really wanted this to be the great product it seems it can be. ********************************************************************************************************************** Original Full review: This one is tough. I want to say I love the thermometers because, I do. There's just so many things that don't seem to add up that leave me perplexed as to how this didn't come up during testing. Lets get one thing clear right off the top, it meets expectations. Here are things I think are pros: The product -- the product itself works as expected. You put your probe in, use the app to set a temp and it notifies you when that temp is reached. This is it in a nutshell and that't ultimately what it does. Battery life -- I've cooked a pork shoulder for about 10 hours and had no issues with battery life, that's about as much as I can speak to that. Maintenance/Cleaning -- super easy. The probes can be cleaned with warm water using your favorite antimicrobial soap or dish soap and you're good. Here's where things start to get silly in my opinion. You have a block with 4 probes that get charged via USB (or battery but lets be real most of us are going to go with USB). Now let's say you are starting a cook that will require just one probe, still no issues you take your one probe insert it where needed and off you go with the rest of your settings etc. To power on that one probe, you must power on the block, if the block is on all 4 probes are on. Why not just let me choose which probe should be powered on while allowing the others to remain off for conservation of battery? Maybe it does let you do this but I didn't see it in the documentation and/or the settings. I'm also aware (or am poorly assuming maybe) that the other probes that are still in the block are being charged if the block remains on the USB or battery power. Still it would be best if they were not on at all if not used. Now we're in our cook have our protein on the grill, smoker etc and you close the lid. Your block is sitting nicely on your counter top which is likely a sliding glass door between and 30 feet away. Well your block will likely not see the Probes. So now you have to bring the block out by the smoker. To me this is no big deal, i thought i'll take this little black thing out of its bamboo holder and we're good. Well maybe I was to hesitant to pry on it more but I dont think the thing comes out. You have to take the entire block over to your grill area in order for it to pick them up. I honestly would not mind this but I really feel like I don't want to take the entire set with me i really wanted to just be able to take the small black thing and put it near the cooker. To me these are just logical but again I could be using this thing all wrong however if that is the case then I would have to say that the small amount of documentation needs to be updated to further explain. In all, you are still going to get a thermometer that eliminates wires which to me is huge. Your cooks will be simpler and better with it. It's just still a little rough around the edges in terms of practicality. ... show more

  • She married me for my cooking
I BBQ on a Trager grill and the Bluetooth only version of the MEATER as well as two other Bluetooth only probes I tried have a limited range of about 6-feet due to the thick lining of the Trager grill. This prevents me from monitoring my cooking when I am in my house. I also tried another WIFI thermometer which supports 8-probes but found the software to be so flakey that it would often hang. The Meater Block is by far the best cooking system I have ever used for the following reason. Packaging – This device is very well packaged and the wooden block is beautiful. I liked that they integrated a USB charging port as well as batteries but due to corrosion I would like to see them move away from batteries and just have a rechargeable one. Software Setup – This is so simple and only took a few minutes including account creation. Pairing to the block on my Samsung phone was effortless and connecting the block to my WIFI was also super easy. Software – The Phone interface on this is hands down the best I have ever seen. You simply hit the power button on the block and tell it to connect to WIFI which it does in a few seconds. I like that the LED on the block shows you the Bluetooth connectivity of each probe to the block and when you fire up the software on your phone, it quickly connects to the block over WIFI. My favorite part of the Software is that when you say cook, it gives you 6-options (Beef, Pork, Poultry, Lamb, Fish, or other and then many sub categories and then lets you determine how you want the item to cook (Rare, Medium Rare, Medium, Medium Well, or Well Done and it recommends temp based on safety guidelines. One of the things that sets this apart is because it measures both internal food temp and ambient external temp, it is able to calculate how long it will take for your food to cook. This is especially handy of you are cooking multiple things like a big roast and some chicken at the same time Hardware – The block looks great and is easy to clean. The probes and also stylish and very easy to clean. If someone asks, I do not know if these probes can be used in water like sous-vide or other cooking devices. Conclusion – Later this year I will probably update my Trager to the latest model that has WIFI support but I will continue to use these probes as they are amazing. I have never once lost connectivity to the block so that says something about the stability of the device. Aside from a rechargeable battery, my only other feature request is that the Estimated cook time calculation could be speed up as sometimes it takes up to 7-minutes for this to register but overall an amazing product. ... show more
