This works really well and I like that when you close it it turns off so the batteries are going to last for a long time. I needed something like this that was accurate and fast- my old thermometers took a while to get to to temperature and this one is almost immediate. The settings took me a minute to figure out such as how to switch it between beef and chicken for instance, but once I figured out which button to use it was a breeze.

This is potentially the best Meat Thermometer available. It has preset temperature settings for beef, lamb, veal, hamburger, pork, turkey, chicken, and fish. In addition, it has different cooking levels you can choose, such as rare, medium rare, medium, and well done. If you're not happy with these temperatures, there is also an option to select your own individually selected temperature. At this point, you can start using the device. The screen is a pleasant blue that is illuminated so you can see it in low light. When it approaches the target temperature it turns green, and when it actually reaches it it turns red. You can also press a button and a voice will tell you what the temperature is. What don't I like about this? First, the probe is very stiff to rotate out and rotate back in again. The company tells me this is because it had to be stiff to make the probe waterproof. Why does the probe have to be so waterproof? Apparently you can boil the probe for several minutes to sterilize it. Why would you want to do that.? I don't see why you have to sterilize anything except the tip that is inserted into the meat. In the meantime it makes it very unpleasant to unfold it or fold it back in again. I tried lubricating it with silicone spray, but this did not help. The other problem is that you cannot calibrate this thermometer. If the thermometer becomes uncalibrated, or, loses its accuracy later, you cannot recalibrate or correct it. I think with these two additions, this probe would be absolutely the best anywhere.

I have another thermometer that you read on a clock-face style gauge and it took a ridiculously long time to make a decision. This is fast, easy to read and accurate. I use the attached magnet to keep it on the side of the refrigerator near the stove.

Seemed reasonably accurate for 2 months. After that, when opened up it would read about 15 degrees too low for the ambient air temperature. I tested it in an ice bath, and it read about 18 degrees fahrenheit. But there was no way to correct this. Threw it out. If I every try another digital thermometer, it must have a calibration feature. UPDATE 11/1/2020: I am changing my rating to 5 stars. Nycetek noted my concerns above, and sent me an updated version (see photo), without charge. The new version allows the user to calibrate the instrument in an ice bath. I tried tried it and it is easy to do. I then checked my coffee with both the new Nycetek version, and the more expensive Amercian made Thermopen. They differed by less than 1 degree at 158 degrees F. I am completely satisfied with the new, calibratable, version of the Nycetek, and I appreciate their thoughtful customer service.

A new surprize from the usual garbage available from this sales platform... THIS company actually does stand behind their product and QUICKLY resolves any issues. Unheard of, considering what many of us have repeatedly experienced buying here...overseas knockoffs peddled and the seller vanishes. NOT these guys! Truly impressed. The function of the unit is fantastic too. Mine had a little display hiccup but the seller QUICKLY resolved it.
