  • Seems to be the best 3rd party option so far
I've had two 3rd party grips for the 5D MK IV, and one for my old 6D. The other one I had for the 5D MK IV was the "Pixel" one. So this review will largely be a comparison to that one. I would say compared to the "Pixel" one, the Meike is the one to get: -The biggest difference is the joystick (for moving the focus point). The joystick on the Meike is not quite as good as the one built into the camera, but it is quite usable and reliable. It is less "clicky' than the one built into the camera. The one on the Pixel was unreliable. It was very difficult to move around without pressing it in (thereby centering the focus point). -The shutter release and three buttons near it feel better on the Meike than on the Pixel. Here's how I would describe it: -Shutter button built into camera: Very little resistance on the 1/2 press and only a little more resistance on the full press. There is never any "clickiness" -Meike: A little more resistance on the 1/2 press (and slight "clickiness"), and more resistance and more "clickiness" on the full press. -Pixel: More resistance on the 1/2 press and significant "clickiness". Even more resistance on the full press, and even more "clickiness". I would say that on the Pixel, switching between the grip button and the body buttons was much more difficult. I was always pressing the body button too hard, and "missing" the 1/2 press. Because the resistance is less on the Meike, the situation is better. -Regarding the mechanism for storing the camera battery door on the grip: The Meike is designed to make it easier to take it in and out, without losing any security or functionality. It's not only easier, but I feel will save wear and tear on the spring in the battery door. Also, it just fits better. On the Pixel it just didn't fit as well. -The batteries fit better into the Meike. On the Pixel sometimes they were harder to put in. -The overall fit and finish is better than on the Pixel. The tackiness of the rubber portion of the grip is nice. -I tried the remote, it seems to function very well. I tried it about 30 feet away indoors, with some obstacles and it still triggered very reliably. I'm sure it could go a greater distance than that. I briefly tested the intervalometer and it seemed to work well. -The only complaint I have is that the button below/next to the joystick has more of a "lever" or "switch" action (press to the right), whereas the on the camera body and the Pixel grip, it's more of a button (press in). I'm not sure why this did it this way, but it's only a slight annoyance. -Meike claims at least some of the buttons are made in Japan. -The Pixel grip claims some weather sealing, the Meike claims none. I've not tested any of this. Overall, if you don't want to spend the money on the Canon grip, this one seems to be the way to go! ... show more

  • Fits very well considering it's 3rd party.
I'm very impressed with the quality of this over the other brands. I have a neewer on my 80D and it is just OK. This meike has a much better rubbery texture and fits my mark iv tighter than the neewer on the 80D. The buttons are a bit more clicky than the stock camera buttons but I expected that. The remote works well and is an added bonus. I think this grip is excellent considering the difference in price from the oem Canon grip. Is it perfect? No, of course not, but being $250 less in price makes all the difference in the world! I definitely recommend this grip! ... show more

  • Better than expected!
I am very happy with this battery grip! I had some reservations at first after seeing some of the reviews on another page stating that the batteries had shorted out and could no longer hold a charge! I took this on a day long shooting session at an event taking almost 700 pictures and it showed the battery capacity only down one bar! I will update this review later but as of now, I am quite pleased! ... show more

  • It drains the battery quickly even it sits in bag.
Seems it is a decent quality battery grip but it drains battery quickly even you do not use camera. I have searched online and seems it is a common issue with after market grip.
