  • Great Carb for 1976 F-150 300CI/4.9L
Style: for Ford 200 250 300 1965-1985
I don’t write many reviews but made an exception in this case. I ordered this carb for my 1976 F-150 4x4 with the reliable old 300 CI (4.9L) ‘straight 6’ engine. I was considering getting a rebuilt unit when I ran across this carb, which is actually much cheaper than a rebuild. I’ll have to admit that I was skeptical considering the suspiciously low price, but finally decided to take a chance. The carb arrived within a week, and was packaged very nicely. There were only a couple very minor issues I encountered while installing it: The stud holes in the carb-to-manifold gasket that came with the carb did not quite match up with the mounting studs on the manifold. It would have been very easy to slightly elongate the holes in the gasket with a razor blade or sharp knife, but I decided to just reuse the old gasket. The other minor issue was that I could not attach the air cleaner housing to the new carb because the thread on the carb was not the same as the air cleaner housing attaching bolt. However, this was easily fixed by taking off the small bar over the throat of the old carb that the air cleaner housing attaches to (it is held on the carb by 2 small bolts and easily removed) and swapping it with the one on the new carb. Took about 5 minutes. After attaching hoses and throttle cable to the carb I took one precaution: I tapped the carb bowl with the handle of a screwdriver just in case the needle valve became stuck after long storage (an old trick). I then started the truck expecting to spend some time adjusting idle speed and mixture screws. To my surprise, the truck started immediately and idled and ran like a champ with absolutely no adjustment needed! I’ve run the truck several days now with no problem whatsoever. It runs as smoothly now as on the day I got it 35 years ago! This carb is indeed a bargain. Howard ... show more

  • I got a good one
Style: for Ford 200 250 300 1965-1985
Bolted on fired right up and adjusted the idle screw. I have drove about 50 miles and it still fires up real easy and it is still doing good.

  • Installed and Working great
Style: for Ford 200 250 300 1965-1985
Put this on my 1985 F-150 I6-300 cid, replacing a rebuilt carburetor that was giving me problems. At this price, why bother to buy a rebuild kit? The installation was pretty straightforward, with a few caveats: - As noted in other reviews, the air cleaner bolt hole on the top of the carb has to be switched out with the one from your old carb. The one on this carb does not match the OEM air cleaner bolt. - In my application, the carburetor is fitted with various feedback devices, which are mounted to the carb with a side flange. It's pretty easy, you simply take off the side flange from the old carb and then attach it to the new carb. BUT -- although the bolt holes all match up perfectly, they are threaded for a #10 screw, and will not accept the #12 screws from the original carb, requiring a trip the the hardware store. - This carb is set up to take a stock feedback mixture control solenoid, which fits over three openings on the side of the carb. The carb comes with a cover plate and gasket over these openings, in case you don't use the solenoid. However, the provided gasket is not properly set up for the configuration of the three openings. You could make it work with some fancy Exacto-knife work, but fortunately the existing gasket from my old carb was in good shape, so i just reused that. Other than that, I took off the old carb, put on the new one, and it started right up. It idled fast at first, but before I got into making any adjustments, I drove it around for about 30-45 minutes, and it settled down to a normal idle speed. I think the throttle cable/linkage just needed to settle in. If you have the feedback setup on your carb, you will have to disconnect all the electrical wires to the two solenoids, and to the choke. All of these are snap-together connects, so it's no big deal. Once you have the carb out, you can switch the side flange and air mixture solenoid over, and you're good to go. The only other issue I had with this install was not the fault of the carb. There is a heated air tube that connects to the carb near the choke, which connects to a heater flange on the exhaust manifold. On my vehicle, this tube had rusted off and was just dangling in midair. For a quick fix, Google "Dorman Help 03840 Universal Carburetor Choke Tube Repair Kit Choke Stove." I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this carb to anyone. the fit and finish were excellent, it works great, and it saved me hundreds of dollars. Great job! ... show more

  • Works well
Style: for Ford 200 250 300 1965-1985
I put this on a 1984 ford f150 with the 300 I6. The carb works well. No leaks. I would like to point out, as most will know, the ford uses a hot air choke. With this carb, the ports that draw in the hot air were not completely drill out. The hot air choke would not have worked. I had planned on using a manual choke so this did not cause me any problems. As was mentioned in other reviews, i did have to change the bar that the bolt to hold on the breather mounts to. The original bolt would not fit. The original bolted right on and worked perfect. ... show more

  • Bad Quality Control
Style: for Ford 200 250 300 1965-1985
Have had this carb beyond 30 days by three days. Could not get vehicle to run right (would not idle correctly). Been trying to trouble shoot problem. Finally a friend suggested I look at throttle plate..Took carb off again to look at throttle plate..Sure enough, the throttle plate was improperly installed (was slightly off to one side and would not let throttle plate completely close to let carb run on idle circuit) so therefore could not adjust idle mixture. Proper quality control would have identified this problem on assembly. Would not recommend to buy this product. ... show more

  • Leaks gas when accelerating.
Style: for Ford 200 250 300 1965-1985
The media could not be loaded. The carburetor works great. Perfect fit and performance. I was really happy with it until I noticed a tiny stream of gas shooting out of the back of the carburetor onto the exhaust manifold. I’m going to keep it and try to fix the leak. See attached video clip.

Works real good for about two to three year I'm on my third one, I think the methanol does it but for the price and the alternative carb for $600 I'm happy with it
