In the last five years, despite the fact that I take very good care of my equipment, I have had three pairs of the $100-$150 binoculars break and none of them were covered by warranty. I am not an optics connoisseur but was hoping that, if I stepped up to $500-$700 range I would be able to get a more durable and reliable set of binoculars with a strong honest warranty. I went to Cabelas and Scheels and looked at Nikon 7, Vortex Viper HD, Zeiss Conquest, Cabelas HD, and Bushnell Legend binoculars. While they all seemed to be nice binoculars, I may have expected a little to much from the Zeiss since they were $1000 and I could not tell any difference between them the Vortex or the Nikons. Also the Vortex had a great no fault lifetime warranty. In the past I've had some negative experiences with Nikon and their warranties, even though the salesman said that Nikon has improved their warranty to compete with companies like Vortex I decided to give them a pass. I ended up going home to research the Viper HD and in the process found reviews on Maven optics. I read some reviews and watched Youtube videos and decided to order the 10x42 C.1 and return them if I didn't like them. Once I got them, I went back to Cabelas and asked if I could see how much better the Vortex Viper HD was in comparison. The Vortex did have a locking diopter ring which I liked, but otherwise could see absolutely no difference. Maven also offers the same type of no fault lifetime warranty that Vortex offers. I purchased these Maven binoculars during a holiday sale and paid $297 and the Vortex were $600 so I decided the locking diopter ring was not worth $300 and ended up keeping the Maven C.1. I am amazed with these binoculars and a little disappointed I waited so long to get a quality set of binoculars. I wish there was a way to show what I see through these binos. They are very crisp and clear. When looking at pine boughs, I am able to see individual pine needles. I wear glasses and the eye relief allows a full field of view with no black edges. In low light (legal shooting light) they work very well. I do have a pair of old, heavy Minolta porro prism 50mm that may be brighter but the clarity of the Mavens makes up for any advantage the Minoltas might have. The overall build seems to be very strong and the diopter ring is stiff enough so that once I got it adjusted, I haven't had to touch it. I was a little concerned the 10 power might be too strong for woods use but the close focus, adequate field of view, and great resolution make these a perfect all around binocular for me. Finally, these binoculars weigh 24.5oz and some people might find these 10 power binoculars a little light and have difficulty holding them steady. In that case, he or she may prefer the 8x42 model. Either way, if you want $325-$350 binoculars that are comparable to $500-$700 binoculars I highly recommend the Maven C.1. When it comes to high quality optics that the average person can afford, Maven changed the game.

The media could not be loaded. I have used several brands of binoculars over the years. From cheaper brands like Bushnell to more expensive brands like Zeiss and everything in between. For the last few years I have been using a pair of Vortex which I really like but they are 8x42 magnification and I wanted something a little more powerful. I started shopping for 10x42 pair and a friend of mine who is a wildlife biologist in West Texas told me about Maven optics. He said that is all his department uses. As a result I took a chance on these. They are beautiful optics in appearance. Everything about them seems well done, from the polymer frame to the neck strap it is all very high quality. . . and this is not even Maven's top of the line model. They have a nice weight to them meaning they feel sturdy and well built, without being too heavy around your neck. The ED glass is crystal clear all the way to the edges. I can get on the deer stand in the middle of the night and still see my feeder with these with just minimal moon light. I can't speak to how waterproof they are as I hunt inside of a blind and they don't get exposed to the elements too much. The only thing that would have made the purchase better was if Maven provided a hard case vs. the soft bag but other than that these are awesome, I would buy them again. This pair of binoculars is MIND BLOWING. I purchased them kindof on a whim as my other pair of binos broke in the middle of the hunting season. I had heard great things about Maven and had always been interested, so I figured I would take the plunge. I was not prepared for the performance! I'm young and have slowly been getting into higher end gear, but the binos I had were a sub $150 pair. These are not a ton more expensive at $350, but they are substantially nicer. Because of their business model and sales structure, there's no retail markup in the price of any Maven products. Amazon is only the shipper, you still purchase these directly from the manufacturer. Because of that, these binoculars compete directly with optics that retail in store for between $600 and $900. I have spent several days testing them Elk hunting in Utah, morning, mid day, and evening, and I the color contrast and performance in low and high light rivals anything I've looked through, except the high end Swarovskis. The real eye opener was on a Saturday mid-day, when I ran into town to Sportsman's Warehouse to grab something and decided to compare my C1's to a pair of Vortex Razor HD's, UHD's, and Swarovski EL's. While the C1's were behind the Swaros, the Swaros were only marginally better. And they retail for almost 10 TIMES what I paid for the C1's! And compared to the Vortex's, it was no contest. Maven mopped the floor with the Vortex's. These made the Razor's look like a cheap wal-mart pair, and they are obviously made with a much higher attention to detail and with better components. And again, the Maven's cost about 1/4 of what the Vortex's retail for! I will be buying more of these as gifts and such, I'm impressed! Don't hesitate if you're on the fence, throw away your Vortex and get yourself some Maven's!
