I purchased this used from Amazon. The first one arrived broken. You could not twist the lamp pole in at all. Amazon sent a new replacement so here is my overall review now based on the new replacement only. The lap is cute! I have it for my 3-year-old. Great price and value considering they love to touch everything. It has a pulldown chain which allows my son to turn it off and on building on his skills and independence. Which I promote highly in my home. Anyone with a child 5 and under I recommend this lamp. Older than that I would say you can get a better looking lamp with no worry of them breaking it. ... show more

The picture shows it comes on and off with the pull chain but it does not have a pull chain at all, it has a switch on the cord, not a big deal but I liked the chain idea better. Using it in my sons room it matches his bed set. I like this item but I think you have to buy a smaller bulb because the top of it sticks out of the top of the shade by about an inch.

I inspected the lamp when I opened it, as I do all online purchases, and found this lamp to be of very simple and clean construction. It’s sturdy and although I’m confident that it would hold up to my two young boys turning it on and off seven million times every day, I chose to plug it into a switch controlled outlet. I will say, I was impressed with the smooth movement of the pull chain and I do believe that it’s quite durable. It casts enough light that the boys can read in bed but not so much that it’s overpowering. This of course can be altered in countless ways with all the bulb choices available these days. This is a cute lamp, I ordered for my son’s room. Mine didn’t have a pull string, it was a switch on the cord and the lightbulb does stick out over the top. It was fairly inexpensive so I’m not too worried about it.
