  • Coat For A Lifetime. Don’t Size Up! List of My Fave Features of This Medium Baffled Down Jacket.
Size: Large Color: Black - Latest Collection
First, I love this mid to heavy weight, warm, down Marmot Guides jacket. Here’re some of the reasons why: 1. Not Gonna End Up In A Landfill - Lifetime Guarantee I hate the whole disposable clothes thing. This is also partially filled with recycled down, so it kept something out of a landfill, great two-fer. 2. Flattering Goldilocks FIt - Not Too Tight or Too Boxy. Jacket looks good zipped or open. Hits me at between my waist and hips. 3. Not A Boring Black Jacket. Matte on Top, Shiny on the Bottom. I’ve not seen a jacket with this type of mixed fabric treatment. I think the shiny bottom MIGHT be a bit more grime resistant, but I haven’t tested this. I think the shiny also sort of urbanizes the jacket if you’re commuting to work (anyone still doing that?). 4. Has A Secret and Keeps Yours. Love the secret chest pocket hidden next to the Marmot logo. 5. True to Size - Don’t Size Up. Yea, really tired of having to guess the right size because there’s some weird cut. This is true to size. If anything it’s a bit generous, so if you’re on the fence between sizes and don’t plan on wearing anything too bulky underneath, you might even size down. 6. Drawstrings for When The Wind’s A Blowin. Sometimes I have to commute to work on a ferry and lemme tell you, it is collllllld when that wind comes off the water. But I love being out on deck. The bottom of the coat and the hood both have elastic drawstrings so I can keep the cold out and stay on deck. 7. Baffled Zippered Pockets At The Waist Keep My Hands Warm and My Phone Handy. The two zippered waist pockets are baffled both inside and outside, heaven! 8. Hood is Big Enough But Not Too Big Hood is just the right size. I can wear a beanie cap underneath easily. 9. Thin Elastic at Wrist Doesn’t Keep Me Hostage. One thing I dislike about my old jacket it that it has really thick wrist bands, which sounds like a great idea, but it’s such a pain to get out of the thing. The thick elastic gets caught on my clothes. This has just a thin elastic band at each wrist. Good enough for keep the jacket where it should be, but not too thick to hold me hostage when I need to get out of it. 10. It’s Marmot. And I Love Them. If you know, you know. Nuff said. ... show more

  • Nice and warm
Size: Large Color: Twilight Blue
I'm comparing this to similar puffer jacket from another outdoor gear maker.... Pros: Fit - the large fits very well. I'm 5'6" and 170 lbs. This puffer jacket is really... puffy. Especially when compared to my other one. Meaning that it's bulkier. This isn't a bad thing because I think the extra puffiness provides more warmth. It can compress down to a pretty small size and be folded up into the hood. Lifetime warranty Hidden front pocket on the chest. My old one has a pocket on the inside. Not sure which one I like better because the outside pocket is more accessible and you don't have to unzip your coat to get at the contents, but the inside pocket seems like provides more protection. It has cords at the waist band and on the hood to tighten up those areas to prevent cold air from entering, which my old jacket doesn't have. This is especially important and useful when it's windy Cons: The interior fabric takes a lot longer to warm up with your body heat than my old jacket does. They're both made of polyester, but for some reason this one stays cold much longer. Price - this jacket is over $100 more than my old one when comparing the MSRP of each and they both have similar lifetime warranties. Bottom line: this is a great jacket. Very warm and comfortable with some nice features for enhancing comfort in the cold. ... show more

  • True to size; Size up if planning to wear bulky sweater/hoodies underneath
Size: Large Color: Twilight Blue
I ordered a L, which is my typical clothing size, and this fits me very well. I can wear lightweight or close fitting sweatshirts underneath without an issue. If I was going to wear several layers or planned to wear something extra bulky, I would size up so it wouldn't be tight under the armpits. It's a bit boxy and bulky, so it's not the most flattering. There's a bit of extra room around the stomach which I don't mind because if I'm wearing bibs and have something in my front pockets, it has some space. There are no interior pockets. Worth noting because I like having them for a slim wallet. The side "hand warmer" pockets do zip shut. There is elastic at the end of the sleeves. It is tucked in a bit from the edge. It doesn't feel tight, but it definitely keeps the air from blowing right up the sleeves. Sleeve length is good - I have long arms, and this is long enough for me. The hood does have "strings" to adjust it. They are kind of built in. Great for windy or wet days. The hood is also a nice size - can fit a beanie underneath, just not the ones with the big balls on top (at least not comfortably). ... show more

  • Cold comfort
Size: Medium Color: Black - Latest Collection
This Marmot women's Guides down jacket is everything I hoped it would be. It's replacing an ancient Oakley poly fill jacket that just felt heavy and claustrophobic. The Marmot Guides jacket is warm, light, and lofty (I think that's the best description). The down layer appears to be doubled up on the pockets so that your hands are still behind a full layer of it when in the exterior hand pockets. The only other pocket is the chest pocket (a nice to have) for a cell phone. The chest pocket is also behind the down layer but doesn't have an additional layer of down behind it, it's just thin material. Having the cell behind the down layer should help keep it from freezing and prevent the battery from draining prematurely. The hood is also appears to have a full compliment of the down material in it. It has a cinch strap and a scuba style to it. I like that it acts as a neck warmer when fully zipped but the hood is down, it's very cozy. The elastic waist and cuffs help keep cold out. The waist can cinch like the hood but if it's really blowing you'll need something for your hands that match up to keep it out of the sleeves. There are two sheens that are visible in the pics but maybe aren't elaborated on. The lower half has a higher gloss to it than the upper half which is more of a satin sheen. They're both still "black." ... show more
