  • Strong and works well
I use it with a 3 lb. 18 inch sledge hammer standing up against an up right using a bungee to hold it in place. With four to twelve solid hits large pieces of seasoned hardwood are split with ease.

  • Does the job!
I’m a petite woman, so my ability to swing a large axe for very long is limited - but I was able to get straight to work with this and a small awl. It still takes some force, but within a couple of hours I had the rest of the season’s worth of firewood split. I found that for knotty fir I had to go in from the side instead of from the top of the rounds or it would get stuck at the knots. Yes, the paint comes off… but I’m not sure why that would matter. It does the job and I’m very pleased! ... show more

  • Best "wedge" out there! Best "wedge" out there!
Three taps with an 8 pound sledge and this oak popped open! My last wood grenade snapped at the tip while splitting White Oak, but it lasted 5 years.

  • Nice looking splitting wedge
I broke my 25-year-old long-lived Grenade splitting wedge yesterday on a gnarly piece of black locust. Bummer. Found this one as a replacement. Seems well made. Strong. Heavy. Much like my beloved Grenade wedge. Don't know if it will last, but railroad quality steel ought to be tough and long-lasting. We will see. Good price so I gave it a try and hope for the best. Hard to replace a wedge that split hundreds of cords of wood without failure. But I am hopeful this will be a good one. ... show more

  • Works well, but is also a work out!
As a suburban guy, I had little experience splitting logs so keep that in mind. Due to a miscommunication with some landscapers, I found myself the owner of a huge pile of tree trunks and large branches. Not having ever used anything like this before it took me some time to work out a method, especially on the big trunk parts. There were zero instructions, but I got used to it after the first log. I was then able to work my way through a few more and have settled on doing one big one or 3 smaller ones per day. I'm using an 8lb sledge and let me tell you it is a workout. But I'm actually enjoying it. I'm in pretty good shape. By but splitting logs with this for more than an hour leaves me ready for a nap. I'm also starting to lose a little weight, so win win. So being too cheap to buy a chainsaw I'll never use again may actually have worked out for the best! ... show more

  • easy to get started in the log
I have had the diamond wedge about a month & have split several truck loads of wood with it. The best part of the wedge is it penetrated the log easily & stays in place without falling out of the log. Other than that, not much difference in the performance of the diamond wedge & a standard wedge. Not impressed. GW ... show more

  • Great & easy to use
I was surprised at how easy it was to split logs. I bought 2 of these from different vendors, different color but exactly the same in weight and design, one red and the other orange, BTW one was a dollar cheaper & both free shipping. I wish I bought this years ago. I used it on logs that were 1ft to 1 1/2 in diameter and less than 18in. in length, and were used in a backyard BBQ & campfire. They are excellent for any camping trip. Not once did it bounce out, however I always started out slow with a 3LB hammer until it was firmly in place and then I increased blows, if I needed to increase the blows even more I switched to a heavier hammer. Always use a face shield. Some have said that the splitter would bounce out, be careful, be safe. ... show more

  • Wish I’d found this sooner!
I’ve usually tried to split logs with a steel wedge - with mixed success, some being too large. This tool is a pleasure to work with. Easily penetrates the log and thus stays in place. Splits most logs with 3-4 blows. Yes, the red paint soon comes off - but who cares? A great tool, but most splits are only two-way, not four as suggested. It would defy physics and wood grain to consistently make four way splits. Would buy again. ... show more
