Description

The premium Manfrotto 055 carbon fiber 3-section tripod delivers maximum rigidity from the lightest components. The 100% carbon fiber tubes and new Quick Power Lock (QPL) leg locking system maximizes the tripod’s rigidity and vibrational absorption, stabilizing camera equipment under any condition. The key feature of the MT055CXPRO3 is its 90° column, which allows the column to be extended vertically or horizontally. The horizontal column mechanism is housed within the tripod's top casting for compactness, but it is easily and quickly extended whenever you need it. Switching between vertical and horizontal column orientation requires no disassembly, and can even be done with a camera attached. The 3-section legs of this Manfrotto tripod make it light and ready for to go. The legs of the MT055CXPRO3 tripod are also fast to extend and adjust, thanks to the Quick Power Lock (QPL) levers. The special design of the QPL levers allows single-handed opening of all leg sections in one action. Intuitive and ergonomic leg angle selectors allow each leg to be independently and solidly set to any of the preset angles, allowing positioning freedom. A bubble level is built in to the top of the center column for precise framing. The bubble level rotates freely around the center column, so it can be positioned wherever it's easiest to see. The top casting of the MT055CXPRO3 has an Easy Link connector for supporting photo or video accessories (such as an LED light, flash, or reflector) on an extending arm or bracket, transforming the tripod into a practical mobile studio. Got this tripod (MT055CXPRO3) to replace my heavy duty aluminum tank of a tripod. Gained about 4 lbs of freedom - it literally feels like feather compared to the old one. 4 lbs does not sound like a lot, but if you are hiking with your photo backpack full of gear, you know that 4 lbs can save your back. Used it on a Death Valley 8 day trip - no issues whatsoever, very steady, solid and well made tripod. The fact that salt does not do any damage to Carbon Fiber was a great plus. The ability to place the center post parallel to the ground and being able to completely flatten out the legs is fantastic. One of the complaints I've read about is potential breakdown of the red sleeve that holds the center post - specifically the plastic bracket that holds the two aluminum pieces together. While I can see it happening, I am thinking that a really quick and easy fix would be to have a thin wire or a zip tie - so not too much worried about that. And as one of the other reviewers mentioned and I vouch for that - watch your fingers as you are snapping the clamps shut - you will learn to respect them! Also, fully extended (all leg sections, not center post), this tripod is surprisingly tall - I am 5'9" and with camera mounted on a vertical pistol grip, full extension is above my eye level (for the viewfinder). ... show more

Purchased this as an upgrade to an older MT190CXPRO3. I started doing videos of eagles with my recent purchase of a mirrorless camera that has video. This is a heavier duty model than the old tripod, and I stepped things up with the levelling center column and a fluid head, so doing videos of flight is much smoother. I have an old 055MF3 Manfrotto tripod and it's a good one. When I needed a second tripod, I looked into the Manfrotto 055 line again and found this. It's hard to find something original to say. It's a Manfrotto, solid as a rock, well made, and innovative. It's quite an advancement over the old 055MF3. Being able to rotate the center column with such ease is just an amazing piece of engineering. I had no idea what use I would have for the Easy Link connector. Then I bought a wireless shutter release. Now an inexpensive cold shoe is attached to the Easy Link. The camera part of the shutter release sits in the cold shoe, leaving the hot shoe on the top of the camera available. I know this costs a lot more than the aluminum version. Frankly, I could have bought the aluminum tripod, but I saved up for the carbon fiber and I'm glad I did. It's lighter, less susceptible to temperature changes, and just a better tripod. Everything about this tripod is great, other than the cost. Manfrotto needs to slash their prices by 50%, and they would double the profit they make because they would sell vastly more tripods. There is no way (opinion coming from a person in the manufacturing industry) that such a simple and straightforward device has production costs that warrant the outrageously high price. I am so impressed by this tripod. It was on sale and "I could finally afford it, what a good investment. Basically, the stability and build quality is unmatched by a ny other tripod I've owned. It actually has a rudimentary design but the build quality is truly good. You can feel the stability in ways that seem beyond design oriented, more elemental. As if the carbon fiber has a different connection with the Earth. Kind if hard to explain, but if you want to take your equipment and craft seriously, this is a good companion... ... show more

I have three tripods, this one with a Sirui G-10X ball head, a 3 legged thing Eddie with 3LT ball head, and a MeFOTO A1350 travel tripod with MeFOTO ball head. I use the Manfrotto tripod almost all of the time. The flexibility of the horizontal column is fantastic for macro photography. You can extend the legs almost horizontal and position the camera around 6 inches off of the ground if needed. It also functions well in normal vertical orientation. I've used it in vertical orientation for HDR night photography with great results. Because it's carbon fiber, it's very light and stiff. I'm six feet tall. With the legs fully extended, it's easy to get a good shooting position with only a little extension of the center column. The locking levers are secure and quick to operate. My only complaint is that it's easy to accidentally pinch your fingers if you're not careful. ... show more

I thought I would love this tripod, turns out I was wrong. I'v used Manfrotto products before from others that had let me borrow their gear and have never had a problem. So when I decided to buy my own tripod, Manfrotto was top on my list to buy, and I wanted carbon fiber so I thought this was a steal of a deal. At first I thought it was a fantastic tripod. However, only 2 months in I out shooting wildlife and one of the legs broke. I was able to catch the tripod before my whole camera setup fell to the ground. I tried to get it warrantied out but Manfrotto wasn't having any of it. They were very rude on the phone, and then sent me to a different company that they said deals with their warranties, called Vitech. They were even worse to deal with on the phone. After about an hour on the phone with them, they pretty much said because I bought it on Amazon they won't help. I have fixed it since then, but never really trust my camera setup on it. Will be going a different route when the funds allow. I would stay away from this tripod. ... show more

So easy to collapse and carry around, the weight is exactly what you'd expect for a product that is solid quality (not too heavy at all). The legs adjust and lock easily with quick and solid locking fasteners, the action around the head mount is great in all directions (doesn't get jammed when tilting and returning). The construction is sturdy and doesn't feel cheap. Got the Manfrotto 322RC2 Joystick Head Short to use with it and it's a perfect match mate. I'd recommend it for the extreme enthusiast like me to the semi-pro --though my son loves it too and he's an established career photographer who does a lot of equipment reviews. ... show more
