  • Expected better, too wobbly and plastic parts for the price
Style: Level Lock - Black
Really wanted to love this tripod and I did a lot of research before buying it. Unfortunately it doesn't measure up and won't work for me. It is not an unusable product by any means, but for me and the way I use it and for the name brand and price, I just expected it to blow me away with the fit, form and function. **Pros: At firs glance this tripod felt decent and looks well-made. The leg clips are very nice and snap into place and allow adjustment if they get loose in the future, which I really like. The legs extend and retract well and the bag was decent quality and fit well. The ball head has a dual tilt adjustment which allows it to be moved while "snug" then tightened down from there, a nice feature to keep your camera from dropping like a free weight. It does fold down to near 16", which is very compact. **Cons: When I first extended the legs I noted that it was "spindly", meaning that with any weight it could wobble or shake. I included a picture of the bottom legs on the Manfrotto and next to it a budget tripod I own that was $59. The Manfrotto legs are simply too thin and not stable enough when extended. I thought I could overlook it and talked myself into simply hanging a sandbag onto it to help stabilize it. That's when I noticed the bag hook was not only off-center, it was plastic. I work in the cold sometimes and the plastic hook will undoubtedly snap when under stress from a sandbag and cold, once bumped. Also, the adapter plate is too fiddly. It should simply drop in and tighten down (or snap in), but this one needs a simultaneous tilt of a release tab and a rotation of a clamp while simultaneously trying to line the plate up blind, because it is under the camera, then release the tabs to lock it in place. I'm certain with practice this would get easier, but one shouldn't have to practice this. Lastly the extension tube lock is odd, takes a lot of turns to release it and then it can be pushed down or up, but it is sticky and clunky while moving, just feels cheap. Then it needs a lot of turns and once it "feels" tight, you need to keep tightening or it will slowly slip down. So overall I'm sure it will work for someone who needs portability over everything else and maybe uses it for a cell phone indoors. But for me using heavier varied equipment in outdoor conditions with uneven ground, wind and cold, this simply won't work, and the price is too high for me give it's capabilities. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • Convenient twist leg latches, same ball head as series 055
Style: GT - Twist Black
The GT-twist same ball head as the 055 (40% more expensive) and 190 (23%) more expensive. Convenient twist leg latches that work from any angle instead of the 1-position tabs. Great balance between strength, weight and sturdiness. It came with the nice quick release latch, but for my Nikon Z fc (retro) I'll need to file the plate some in order to be able to use the battery/SD card door while the latch plate is on. Small issue considering the universal plate. ... show more

  • sacrifice light weight for stability.
Style: Level Lock - Black
this folds down pretty small. Much larger than my last manfrotto travel tripod. But, its much sturdier. I guess I will use this one when I have the space and weight allowance to add the extra pound of weight difference. I like it though. Good design. Folds down nice.

  • A good value tripod
Style: Level Lock - Black
After a lot of research, I chose this as my travel tripod for general travel, but also for backcountry landscape photography. It may not be as light as the carbon fiber options out there, but it also costs a lot less than those. It packs up small enough for me to secure it to a daypack. I like the lever locks on the leg segments rather than twist locks. From my initial use, it seems quite sturdy and the ball head locks up tightly. It supports my full-frame DSLR easily. I haven’t used the stability hook since conditions have not yet required it. The one thing I dislike is that I couldn’t get Manfrotto’s Arca Swiss compatible mount at the time of purchase. I had to get it as a separate purchase. So, now I have a Manfrotto quick-release mount that I will never use because my PeakDesign capture clips are not compatible with it. I would have preferred saving $50 by having the option for the Arca Swiss mount when I bought the tripod. My report on durability will obviously have to wait until I’ve used it a bit more. ... show more

  • Tripod

Not sure I got the right one. the $300 dollar does not look much different then the $100 one.

  • Not an Arca friendly head clamp
Style: Twist Lock - Black
This is my second manfrotto tripod. I have a larger one but was looking for something more compact and well-built for traveling. My first take on the Befree is very positive but also very disappointed with their RC2 mounting system. The ads give the impression it works with Arca but my other Arca plates will not fit this RC2 adaptor. If I understood this I would have kept looking for another tripod before making the purchase. I have ordered a replacement plate adaptor to try. Disappointed I have to spend extra dollars on an expensive high quality tripod to make it compatible with standard equipment.... ... show more

  • Great light weight travel tripod with bonus monopod function.
Style: 2 in 1 - Lever Black
Great compact travel tripod (with bonus monopod function)! I already own a heavy duty tripod for my big telephoto lenses, but I found I would avoid using it for things like macro or landscape photography because it weighs so much and is awkward to attach to my backpacks because of its length. This tripod is so light weight and compact, it fits great on my backpack and I barely notice its there. While it technically has a weight capacity rating that can hold my big telephoto lens, I dont recommend it for those. Since the legs are thinner, it gets pretty top heavy and wobbly with that much weight on it, but it handles my smaller lenses no problem (which is what I got it for anyway). The included ball head is nice and sturdy and allows for quick readjustment. It has a adjustable friction setting you can change depending on your camera's/len's weight. This ball head is designed with cutouts for the tripod's legs as the tripod collapses by folding the legs up/inverted with the head in between them to save space. Just be aware if you swap the ball head for a different one, the legs might not close as compact as before depending on the shape. You could still collapse the legs downward in that situation if needed, but that will add a few inches to the height of the collapsed tripod as the head would not be inside the legs anymore. Probably not a problem for most people considering this tripod's small footprint, but wanted to point that out just in case. Overall, great compact tripod if you need a travel friendly one. ... show more
