    • A Feature Rich Carbon Travel Tripod
Style: Twist Lock - Carbon Black
Very sturdy 4 section carbon tripod. Separate locking knobs on the head for panning and variable resistance on the ball head. With a max payload of 17.63 lbs, it will hold any of my cameras up to 4x5. I’ve been using an aluminum Manfrotto 190 for the last ten years, and the BeFree Advanced compliments it well. I appreciate the fact that the head’s qr plate clamp is compatible with both Arca Swiss, and backwards compatible with my old RC2 plates. The legs deploy smoothly and provide a sturdy base, the spider connectors lock at 3 angles. The center column can be reversed for low work, and once you get used to it, the twist lock for the center column is a great feature. Usually when I travel, I carry a MF camera; a Rollei or 500 C/M, and a 4x5 camera; either my Graflex Super Graphic or a metal Wista field camera. The BeFree Advanced fits nicely in my kit, providing a lightweight and sturdy base for the cameras I take farther afield, allowing me to relegate my trusty old 190 to cameras that I tend to use...er...closer to the car, like my Century 8x10... ... show more

    • Good item for the money, it is modern.
Style: Twist Lock - Carbon Black
This is a very good tripod for cameras that weigh up to 5 LB max. I like the ease of adjustment and mounting the camera. I think the Price I paid was reasonable. I have used a few old tripods going back to the 60s. this one in lighter and can support my medium format film cameras. It is much lighter that my old "Tilt all" tripod. ... show more

    • Manfrotto is the best out there
Style: Twist Lock - Carbon Black
Can’t go wrong with Manfrotto. This stuff is designed to go out in the bush with National Geographic photographers and get stomped on by elephants. Anything by Manfrotto is the best.

    • Good tripod until major design problems revealed
Style: Twist Lock - Carbon Black
I have used this tripod for years now and overall like the functioning and features. There are a couple major issues that have come up in that time. The friction control knob within the knob for the main ball head is annoying. From the beginning, it is difficult to find a position that it can be left in so that you can only set and release the main knob to move the ball head. So, I find myself constantly having to tighten and adjust the friction control to get the ball head to move or lock whether I am trying to lock the ball head or release it. The idea of this feature is great, but it seems like its engineering needs to be fine tuned. If you want it to have moderate friction when the ball head is released, but be locked tight when the main control knob is tightened, it is extremely difficult to find that sweet spot. Over the course of about two years of mild to moderate use (maybe less than 60 days of total use per year), this feature got even worse. The friction control knob needs to be fully tightened to hold when the ball head is locked, and then almost fully released to unlock the head. The other main problem I had with this tripod is the rubber feet. They are flimsy and sometimes get caught in cracks or between large rocks when shooting outdoors. This can result in them getting pulled out a bit when you move the tripod. When they get pulled out, they are impossible to get back in. I tried tapping them back in with a rubber mallet, and they don't go back. I tried a heavier hammer, and that ended up just deforming and bending the stem on the feet. So, I now have two rubber feet dangling on a stem protruding about a half inch or more from the tripod leg. This makes that rubber foot springy and bouncy, and ruins the stability of the tripod. The rubber feet are also angled, so when they protrude, it makes them really difficult to position correctly if the wedge shape of the foot is facing the wrong way. These two features have become very annoying and I've missed capturing some moments because I was spending too much time trying to compensate for these problems to get the tripod set up. ... show more

    • Such a disappointing buy from Monfrotto
Style: Twist Lock - Carbon Black
I bought two tripods for my husband and I for our vacation. Within two days one of the tripod legs had broken. Our cameras became jammed in the mechanism 5 times, and required plyers to release the camera from the tripod head, and the legs seized up. I cannot express how disappointed I am, I have had Monfrotto tripods for years and they were super reliable - these are definitely the exception. Would not recommend. ... show more

    • Ideal size and wieght for a backpack size tripod
Style: Twist Lock - Carbon Black
Review Image by Lil-Jens Studio
Fits perfectly inside my Trailscape 18L pack but is light enough to not be overly burdensom on a hike. I was also suprised at how sturdy it was with a fairly heavy camera mounted. (EOS R5 with 24-105 L glass lens) I used it to take long exposure shots of the sunrise over the ocean while the legs were in about a foot of water. Of course, I kept a steady and constant downward pressure on the center so that the waves would be less likely to wash the sand out from around the feet. (See image) Overall, a very reliable set up for general use and espeically handy when needing fairly lightwieght equipment while on the move. ... show more
