Mandolins are a wonderfully useful tool in the kitchen. However, some people think it can replace far too many other tools. It can't. Let's face it - these are for SLICING and a little shredding on the side, but mostly SLICING. If you want pretty shreds, fancy curls, or cross cuts, find another tool. If you want SLICES this one works. I don't recommend taking the mid section out for cleaning, it's a bitch to put back in and you can get it just as clean without all the bother. I have noticed in other reviews people talk about "this is sharp" , they show sliced fingers, and cuts, - yes, that's the POINT. Keep the blade covered by the little plastic protector until you uncover for use. It's VERY sharp so don't screw around and don't treat it like a toy. Wear the gloves, keep your hands clean and dry, don't drink and slice. I like this, it works for the practical use it was designed for - SLICING.

When I received my mandolin, it was missing two accessories (gloves, food pusher). I emailed the company that night, and got a response in a few hours. They offered a solution to my problem, and I received the missing items in the mail three days later. The mandolin is sturdy, easy to use, and easy to clean. I am very happy, and would highly recommend. And the customer service was exceptional!
