Awesome. We have used this for about a month and have eliminated mosquitoes and spiders. from around the house. Produces consistent mist volume. Cranks on first pull. Several families went in together and purchased this and all have said the same thing. We are spraying every two weeks right now and have reduced the chemical now to 50% concentration. It is very heavy on the back but it is a commercial machine purpose built . it is a 35 lb machine with the fuel and chemical and it ways around 65 lbs. straps are significant and the tank keeps the center of gravity lower than most machines. So far we are all very happy with it. It will blow the mist up 35-50 feet into the trees.

As noted elsewhere this weighs a solid 50 lbs when full. Once the weight is on your back it's not bad, but trekking up and down steep hills will wear you out. The unit is extremely well engineered. This is not something where Makita engineers shoehorned their MM4 engine into a blower and slapped on a solution tank. Center of mass is nice and low, solution tank is integral to the assembly, and the plumbing works perfectly. Mist functions are excellent. I treated 2 acres of deeper grass with 15 gallons of solution in 2 hours... That's 5 tanks, so have a good mixing station set up. Spray pattern is good and horizontal distance was a reliable 30 ft, though I'm happy to walk to get thorough coverage. Make sure to kill the flow switch before shutting down for a refill. Other than Amazon's problematic shipping polices to Puerto Rico, which I eventually got around, I'm happy with the purchase, which I'd damn well better be for $800.

Update: Died after 4 years of heavy use. I replaced several engine parts and still can't get it to start. I gave up a bought the cheaper Invatech Italia. I had this delivered today and gave it a whirl. Pros: -Easy assembly (15 min, tops) -4 gallon tank -4 flow settings (very light to monsoon) -Powerful! -Roughly 8ft diameter and 15ft long cone of mist, fast and easy coverage. -Fires right up, love 4-stroke -Very comfortable straps and back padding. -Thorough coat on both the tops and bottoms of leaves. Cons -A bit on the heavy side, 37lbs dry, 4 gallons of mix adds 33lbs, plus a pint of gas adds 1lb for a total of around 71lbs! A "Pro", if you like exercise. - It does require you to constantly lean forward slightly to counter balance. Neutral -Was dry on oil, needed about a cup. Be sure to check! Overall, I am happy I bought it, but I have not tried the makes and models that are half of this price. I like Makita as a quality name brand, and decided to eat the premium. I really don't see how a cold (ULV) fogger could be any better, but I could imagine it being a lot worse. The reason I went with a cold fogger is to spray beneficial microorganisms. A thermal fogger would certainly kill the bacteria. If all you are spraying is agrochemicals, go thermal.

I’m using this to spray lots for mosquitoes in a campground. I’ve never used a sprayer before this one but found it very quiet easy to use powerful enough to get into the trees. I really love it’s a four stroke engine and would not want to go back to a two stroke after using this.

I had bought my first Makita 5 years ago. I had used it for a year and then it sat for 3 years. I brought it back out to use it again and it fired right back up no problem. I continue to use it all year. GPS connected I typically by the steel sr450 or sr200. My guys complain that the Makita is to heavy. What I love about this machine most is its dependability. As long as you change the oil, it's good to go. Never had any problems with this machine except for regular maintenance such as replacing the shoulder straps and solution lines. Also what I love about this machine is the weight distribution of the solution tank. Instead of it being completely at the top like all other machines it is spread out throughout the entire back. For the Stihl Sr 200 I get maybe a year, year and a half out of it. Out of the sr450 same thing. The Makita has outlived all of them and continues to run strong. It's not much heavier than the sr450 oh, but it is heavier. I like it, it's good on the legs. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. The other problem that I had with this is the gasket that goes on the lid for the solution tank comes off. I have had the lid replaced once which came with a new seal and it still falls out here and there. Whenever filling up the tank I just visually check it and if it needs to be pushed back in it takes only a couple seconds. If you don't do this then you will be wearing whatever you put in that tank as it will run down your back. This is standard with any backpack misting machine.

It is heavy and the design is such that it is quite deep with a center of gravity that is far away from your back. When you put it on your back it pulls down and back, to walk up stairs you have to bend forward so it does not pull you backwards. I compare it to the Stihl sr 450, which is better balanced and easier to wear. I have used booth. I bought the Makita because i use it indoors. The Stihl is a little more powerful, better built and better engineered. It is also louder and smellier and can be a pain to start. It is 2 stroke. But you can use it or wear it for a couple hours in reasonable comfort. Pros of the Makita, easy to start, quiet at idle, but a full throtle it is loud. 4 stroke ! powerful. Cons, weight is poorly distributed,this it makes uncomfortable to use, maybe flimsy construction, have not had it long enough to see if there are breakdowns. The Stihl is more of a commercial product. I would only recommend buying the Makita if having 4 stroke is the determining factor.
