  • very satisfied, works as a cheap floor sander, or power-planer, many other uses
I haven't owned any other 7" grinders, so I can't compare it to other brands / models, and I haven't owned it for very long so I can't attest to it's durability, but what i can say is: I bought this as a supplemental tool. I am not a metal smith, but a carpenter, working mostly with wood, though i do occaisional welding work, and i have a 4 1/2" grinder also. Still i have found many uses for this tool, most notably, sanding floors. If you think about it, a disc type floor sander is essentially this tool for 10 times the price. With some SKILL, a 7" grinder can be used for small floor sanding jobs but you have to be very careful. Still, there are a lot of wood working applications where I need to take off a ton of material (like planing down old rough-sawn wood for finish work), a task which will destroy a power-planer if there are any nails in the wood - but not so with a grinder and a heavy-grit sanding disk - it just burns right through the nails, takes off as much material. After that i have to hit it with an orbital sander to get a nice finish. In addition, the swivel handle feature is great, because you can flip it so the blade is oriented vertically with the handle coming off the side, and use it kind of like a chain-saw, for things like cutting rebar or gnawing off bolt ends. It is REALLY POWERFUL, and also REALLY HEAVY. I don't actually like using it for wire-wheeling on welds or things like that because the weight will wear out your arms out. For that sort of thing i always reach for my 4 1/2" grinder. Another thing i like about it is the mounting bolt is the same size as my 4 1/2" grinder (5/8" i think), so blades are interchangeable, and without the guard you can use smaller blades easily. ... show more

  • Once you go Makita 7 Inch Angle Grinder, you never go back!
Boy, was I excited to use this grinder! I own your typical 4 1/2 in grinder, and use the heck out of it. So I thought I would step up to a larger grinder for projects that needed it. So, I bought this grinder for a job cutting cement pavers, but will use it for many additional projects such as welding, auto body work, etc.. It made the job much easier with the 7 in blade and the ability to turn the handle for a comfortable grip and angle. It's well made, quality construction, completely worth the price paid. It is heavy! Although that was an asset when cutting cement pavers. I just placed it on the stone and let its weight and gravity do the cutting, lessening the fatigue on my arms and shoulders. But, if you plan on using this for anything that will require you to hold it up nonstop, and you're lacking upper body strength, expect to be quickly fatigued. At this point that is the only negative I have encountered with this grinder. I highly recommend this grinder and think you will be very happy with it! ... show more

  • Weight
Plenty of power but extremely heavy to work long time is it

  • GRINDER = AWESOME, Shipping = ehhhh.
5 stars for the grinder. No stars for delivery. Was shipped a second grinder when the first one never showed up. The second shipment was fine. I wasn’t in a time crunch. The 7” grinder is for a MAN’S MAN. What a brute. It’s every bit of 20 pounds with a steel brush cup. The handle attachment alone probably weighs 2 pounds. Has some add on dust covers as a prevent defense. Probably the most professional level tool I own and is a good deal at 149 USD. I purchased this grinder due to full “vijayo” reviews at other sources. Cuts like a samurai. Grinds all day. You’ll quit before this grinder will. May have to build a new shop to keep it in though. ... show more

  • Quality
I love the handle and the power!

  • A few issues out of the box and less power than 7021
The one I received had issues out of the box. It puked a lot of grease out of the front seal, which probably is OK just means they put too much in perhaps? Second issue I had was the trigger was finicy and didn't want to work half the time. Not sure what was going on there. Finally, the higher RPM compared to the 7021 makes it feel much less powerful, since higher RPM would equal less torque at same wattage. I think torque gets work done when it comes to grinding concrete and masonry. Those diamond cup attachments have quite a bit of gravity to them and need some oompf to drive them well. In the end I decided to return it in favor of the 7022 model. ... show more

  • 8,500RPM - Hevy Duty unit.
Ordered this unit because it spins 2,500 rpm faster than most grinders in its class. Using to grinding concrete with so we enjoy the extra weight pushing down. Because it's a fast rpm unit it actually seems to be smoother at running and material removal witch I didn't expect. Worked better than 6,000rpm Makita. I burned it up after 4 hours use, I believe it's just a fluke, I have always been impressed by Makita grinders. They shipped new unit 24 hours later no charge. This is a heavy duty unit no switch lock on. Sucks but safety first! ... show more

  • The rotatable handle the best when it comes to cutting because there's less stress ...
Used this tool for some time and now I ask myself why didn't I buy one sooner. This tool is a beast it powers through tough cutting and grinding jobs with ease. Yeah it weighs a lot and it takes both hands to operate but when you use that weight and power to your advantage jobs are done faster which makes my job easier and more productive. The rotatable handle the best when it comes to cutting because there's less stress on your hand and wrist very innovative tool design. ... show more
