  • It's a beast, but will wear you down using it
I had to cut up four 1940s era steel tubs - really thick and heavy stuff, not something you can break up with a sledge hammer like 60s era steel ceramic tubs I've dealt with in the past. I sprung for this unit and it didn't disappoint - went through a few diamond blades slicing those tubs into pieces to pull them out. Felt like a train had run me over when I was done but this unit chewed through them with authority. I've used it for cleaning up steel mesh when taking out walls and the like but it's a bit heavy and unwieldy for working over your head. Granted I'm rocking my dad bod so maybe fitter folks using these would have less trouble. I ended up breaking out my smaller DeWalt angle grinder for jobs needing finesse. ... show more

  • Need
I use this daily…. Only one that holds up to the abuse. HOWEVER…,if you’re going to be using it a lot you must pop the head open and add grease to it otherwise you’ll junk it within days

  • Totally worth it 💪
There were certain areas that my regular 4.5" angle grinder could not reach, I decided to invest in this 7" angle grinder and glad I did! Yes, it's heavy but overly so unless you're holding this for hours on end. No way Makita should make this lighter like some are hoping. It's a 7" angle grinder, not a toy. I put on Makita's cutting disc as well as tried the grinding disc that comes with it. Because it spins slower than the 4.5" grinders, it felt safer but cut through 3/8" steel relatively quickly and with no issue. I'll try a flap disc sooner or later but where serious cutting depth and grinding is needed, I grab this 7" now. And it's Makita. Japanese quality 👍👍👍 ... show more

  • and it chews through steel like some 7" harbor freight grinders at work
As far as first impressions, this grinder blew my expectations out of the water. I got the Makita 4 1/2" 10 amp angle grinder (fantastic machine) for Christmas and I've been using it for 5 months now, and it chews through steel like some 7" harbor freight grinders at work, but it feels lighter. That grinder set the bar pretty darn high. So naturally, I went for another beefy Makita when I wanted a 7", and I got this one. (with money from graduation presents, do you sense a trend?) Oh my goodness, I'm so glad I bought this. This thing is a friggin beast. However I'm a small guy (140lb) and I simply cannot effectively grind for long on something if it's not flat, I just can't control it comfortably. But that's why I have my 4 1/2" grinder. But when I have A LOT of flat grinding to do, there is not a single tool that can beat this behemoth. The only thing that can stop this grinder is... well, nothing. Also, this does have a switch locking mechanism. If you pull the safety switch, (in front of the trigger) and pull the trigger to start it, then release the trigger but hold the switch, it'll lock it on so you don't have to hold the trigger down, and to release, you just pull the trigger again. This is awesome, but you do have to be careful, because if it's locked on and you plug it in, it'll hop and around like a rabbit with a broken leg. And it'll scare the crap out of your boss. Ask me how I know. In conclusion, this is a beast of a tool and the weight resembles it. You barely have to put any pressure on it when grinding flat. It lends itself to very fast material removal in a flat position. However, the weight of it hinders any other position, and that is definitely something to consider, especially if you're not a 250 lb barbarian. But I will say it tag-teams well with the 10 amp 4 1/2" Makita. In the end it's well worth the money. ... show more

  • and absolutely love it and am 100% satisfied with its performance on ...
I purchased this from Amazon for $139. Home Depot sells it for $149. I also purchased the Makita 195386-6 dust extracting 7 inch Grinder dust collector. The first disc I purchased was the Diamabrush 7" concrete abrasive removal hand tool (MODEL # 9207001202), which would not fit on this grinder with the dust shroud installed, furthermore, the Diamabrush disc left a very course surface on the concrete and had a tendency to skip all over the place and was ultimately a very disappointing purchase, I promptly returned it 3 days later after 15 minutes of use. The next blade I purchased was the Rigid 7" Diamond Cup Wheel (# TAW7024P1), and absolutely love it and am 100% satisfied with its performance on this 7" grinder. This grinder is not at all expensive compared to the high dollar ones for professional use however, most of the pros I talked to owned this exact unit and they all love theirs. Also, Home Depot rents this exact tool out in their tool rental for $30/4 hours. With the 24 tooth rigid disc I can easily one handed remove 3/16" thin-set from concrete slab. There is essentially no vibration transfer, and the switch lock makes if effortless. I have nothing negative to say about this grinder. It came in the box with a brand new grinding disc, wrench, retainer nut and large washer. The only thing I can say is that a 7" grinder at Barbour freight costs $50, and I was happy to pay the extra $100 to get field tested unit that every single pro floor installer I talked to used daily. For 100 sq ft small bathroom job, the cheap Barbour freight one would be fine and honestly it would probably last quite a while for a homeowner, but I don't like having to stop in the middle of the day when I'm off work to go exchange a tool, so my time is worth more than a cheap tool and this one is a winner. 5 stars all day long, you won't be disappointed. I hope others find this review helpful, is you did please click the button, your feedback is appreciated!!! ... show more
