  • First grinder and it worked great
Style: INVALID ASIN
This is the first time I've purchased an angle grinder. I needed to have something to help cut 2" top cap bricks for a landscape wall we were building. I considered a wet saw and alternatives, but an angle grinder seemed like the best combination of cost and capabilities. I intended to use the grinder only to grind down the rough cut I made with a chisel, but it worked so well combined with the diamond concrete blade (purchased separately) that I wound up scoring the brick all the way around with it. Then, after a few taps of the chisel, the piece would fall of with a nice clean cut which needed very little final grinding. The grinder itself was easy to hold and manipulate, was plenty powerful and felt like it was of excellent build quality. Since this is just a 4.5 inch grinder, I can see where it might be limited in some other usage scenarios, but that's what larger grinders are for. Consider this if you want a great quality 4.5 inch grinder! ... show more

  • I love the fact its easier to cut and light weight
Style: INVALID ASIN
Usually get the regular 50 dollar makita they sell at home depot. Picked this up as it was more light weight and slim design where i can grab it with one hand while tiling. I love the fact its easier to cut and light weight. Did notice it makes a slightly louder noise when you turn it on than a regular makita (ive used makita grinder for over 15 YRS plus) but so far used it on a few jobs and works well. Also, noticed that when you turn it off, it doesnt spin until it stops as older makita did. Its like its stopping faster. Which is a good thing just hoping thats the way it was designed. So just a few details i noticed from this one compared to the standard one you would buy at home depot. Hope this helps. But over all a fantastic company, great product and i would buy again. Usually my grinders last me 8+ years. so i cannot complain about this company or its products at all. ... show more

  • Very satisfied
Style: INVALID ASIN
Some Makita items are not what they used to be. But everything on this tool is first rate and holds location very well. The one thing I really appreciate is viability: It seems Makita almost went out of their way so a person can find their work reference marks. No matter what side or edge I come on at, I can always locate center of the tool to my work. Slot width is very consistent too, even with my shaky hands. Dust bag could be placed better but you can't have it all. ... show more

  • Makita makes quality power tools
Style: INVALID ASIN
Whenever I need a power tool, I look at what Makita has to offer before looking any further. I purchased this Makita 4 1/2 inch grinder to replace an identical one I used every day for 4 years - until the switch broke. I use the grinder with a course sanding disc to rough out woodwork. Lot's of dust - maybe a reason the switch went out. The extra cost of a Makita power tool is well worth the time you save not having to deal with break downs or a poorly engineered/designed product. ... show more

  • Great Grinder
Style: INVALID ASIN
I looked at plenty of reviews and compared the specs of countless grinders and went with this one. It only comes with a basic grinding disc, so if you are in to fancy cases and discs you might want another package. This is certainly powerful enough to cut through any metal provided you have some cutting wheel discs. I'm not a large person and I found this Makita to be super easy to control while using it. The power switch locks in place (it doesn't have a deadman switch like other grinders) and I feel that makes it easier to use because I don't have to grip the thing in such a way as to keep the power on. ... show more

  • Awesome little grinder
Style: INVALID ASIN
Awesome little grinder! Because it's relatively inexpensive, I decided to buy it instead of renting a bigger 7" grinder locally. So far, it's done a great job at leveling and smoothing part of my basement's concrete floor using a diamond cup. I also used a wire wheel on it to strip away rotten wood on a planter box project. The switch is positioned ergonomically, at least for right-handed use. If you're going to use it for smoothing concrete, getting a dust shroud accessory for a shop vac is a must. I was able to find one by Damo for a low price here on Amazon and it has worked great. ... show more

  • Works great! Even after 5+ years.
Style: INVALID ASIN
Bought this angle grinder because of the trusted Makita name (though Milwaukee and DeWalt are also excellent choices). This will do just about anything you would ever need to do at home, even working in a home shop. This grinder has had plenty of power for all of my uses. So far I have used it to cut down a thick steel (and concrete filled) backer all hoop that had been sunk into the ground back in the 90s. Cut through it without issue. I have used it to clean off various welds thought the years and don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. For the price, you won't find something better for home or small shop use. If you are grinding all day long on a commercial job site or something, you will just need something bigger. ... show more
