    • Nice grinder
This grinder is great. I sharpen a lot of mower blades and this is perfect for the the job. This is the second one. The first one I purchased arrived damaged. Contacted the seller and explained the situation. Since it was the last one they had in stock they obtained a brand new never opened unit from another seller and I had it in two days. Talk about good customer service. Now, back to the grinder. I used one identical to this at my last job. I really like the way the motor housing is smaller in diameter yet long and tapered. It's very comfortable and lightweight yet packs plenty of power. I also like the way you can screw the assist handle on either side for either left or right handed use. Cord is nice and long and made of actual rubber rather than lower grade cord. And the nice case keeps everything protected. All in all I give this a two thumbs up. This a a well built grinder that has a good weight distribution. Price is comparable to the cheaper built ones so its definitely a good value. I have the harbor freight version as well. This one is much better.

    • Great grinder, so-so case
I needed a 4-inch grinder with a 3/8" arbor adapter for using flap discs in my welding shop. My ancient Makita had finally died, so I bought this one to replace it. The grinder is well-balanced, reasonably powerful, and smooth running. The angled side grip is a nice touch, and is more ergonomic than the old one. The power cord is reasonably long, and made of actual rubber, not cheap plastic. It coils well, and doesn't hold memory too badly (which is good, because it has to be coiled very tightly to fit in the case: see below). The case, however, needs some work. It holds the grinder and a few wheels, but the cord has to be coiled just right, or else the case won't close. Come on Makita, there was plenty of room to give me more than 2" for the cord. Heck, you could have left the whole top of the case unmolded, and given me room for a pair of gloves, or a short extension cord. Instead, you molded the entire thing full of empty plastic, and the case is annoying to use. Nonetheless, I bought the grinder, not the case. The grinder works great, and lets me make use of small-diameter arbor flap discs. ... show more

    • Does the job - no muss, no fuss
I really leaned into this grinder cutting up a fair amount of metal. The grinder never slowed. I initially tried abusing it because my son bought a grinder of a different manufacture and it stopped grinding on the second peace of metal. I wanted to know it would last while I could still return it. I was definitely impressed!!! I own a 3 1/2 hp Makita router and that baby is a BEAST. So I expected that I was buying a machine that would hold up. While I have my share of high-end tools, when I am cost conscience I have learned to TRUST Makita. They are wallet friendly and have always been up to the task. The only thing I would knock the grinder for is that I did not buy the 4 1/2 inch instead of the one I did buy 4". That extra half inch would have made a lot of the work I did less cumbersome. But that was the result of my own inexperience and not attributable to the grinder. ... show more

NOTICE: I use 4"X5/8" (Arbor) X 24 Grit, 36 Grit, and 50Grit Sanding Disk for different thicknesses Sharpening Of Mower Blades. 36 Grit For Thicker/Heavier Blades And 50 Grit for Smoothing and razor Sharpness. 1. Buy the Makita Lock Nut 224501-6, $6.93. Has deeper collar for going through the disk and rubber backing pad. 2. Buy the Makita 4" Rubber Backing Pad 743009-6, $7.40. NOW, You're All Set To Use Sanding Disc. The Wrench Included Fits The Sanding Disc Locking Nut As Well. Use 4inch X 5/8inch (Arbor) And The Grit You Prefer. GREAT Grinder/Sander! I Ended Up Buying A SECOND One As Well With The Lock Nut And Rubber Pad For Each! I hope this helps you DIYers out there needing a Great Sanding Tool. *The Rubber Backing Pad is not a full 4 inches BUT, It's not Supposed To Be.     • Great 4" Makita angle grinder for the money
Couldn't find a 4" Angle grinder in any other brand and I still had many stones sanding disc that still fits the 4" inch Makita angle grinder owned one for many year's. The old angle grinder button broken the spring came out and the bearings finely were going out. It went through some hard work and a few other people used it to. I thought it was a great 4" angle grinder so that's why I bought a new one hopefully I get many more years and the next person that gets it they will get use out of it to that is why I give it 5 star's. ... show more

This is a good angle grinder the only thing I don't like is the on and off switch. The switch is child proof, it's hard to get it on sometimes I can get it on and sometimes I have to sit and play with it.
