  • Works as expected

Long battery life. I use it every night while at work loading semi trailers

  • Good overall, but with limits
Style: Light only
Pros: Bright, weather resistant and well made overall. The light pattern is a well dispersed flood. Versatile in that it can used corded or cordless. A bit bulky, but easy to handle and not too heavy. The LEDs run cool - much less hazardous than halogen. The cord is reasonably flexible, unlike some cheap lights. The angle adjustment is solid and easy to use. Cons: Don't expect the light output of a high wattage halogen. In lumens, this is closer to the output of a good 60w bulb, although more effectively magnified and spread by a quality reflector. At 120v on high, my Kill-A-Watt meter shows a usage of about 11 watts and about half that on low. Still, it's bright enough to be painful if you look directly at the LEDs. If you need the versatility of a battery powered light with decent run time, it's a fair trade off. If you need a portable sun, buy a big halogen. The battery latch is a bit clunky, but it won't come open by accident, and the battery compartment is nicely sealed with a silicone gasket. The lens is large piece of plastic that seems vulnerable to getting scratched - a snap-on cover would be nice. I've found that Makita often incorporates small design flaws in otherwise nice tools, this one is no exception: The built in cord hooks aren't long enough to contain the entire cord, and the plug has no clip to attach back to the cord, so it flops around and unwinds. Just dumb. Makita makes a big deal about the 3 year warranty on many of its other 18v tools - but they avoid mentioning the warranty term entirely in the product description for this light - you have to request that information. That's because this has a 1 YEAR WARRANTY. I consider not publishing that information in the description to be deliberately sneaky and deceptive. This is a premium priced product, excessively so I think, and it should be covered for the same 3 years as the other 18v tools. And speaking of price, beware of Amazon's ever changing prices. I bought this for $105 minus the holiday discount - I see today that the price is $117. I've generally found Amazon to be outstanding in terms of customer service, but the "dynamic pricing" policy is creepy and exceedingly consumer unfriendly. If I wanted the casino experience I'd visit one, fully aware the the odds are always in favor of the house. Amazon should rethink their slot machine pricing and just stick to a fair and competitive price. This policy just alienates the same customers they otherwise try very hard to please. ... show more

  • This is a good light. It puts out a eye-hurting bright light ...
Style: Light only
This is a good light. It puts out a eye-hurting bright light without the massive heat of my other halogen shop lights. I bought this mainly because I own other Makita tools and already own several Makita batteries. The price point initially made me hesitate, but I wanted the portability of bright battery operated floodlight and this one does the job well. The Makita battery lasts a long time powering this light (although I have not timed it).The option to plug in the light is also very beneficial. The top handle is comfortable in large hands and it has a easy tilt adjustment to aim the light more effectively. As others have commented, it could use bigger cord wrap clips in order to be able to wrap and secure the cord better when carrying the light around under battery power. It does come with a plastic quick release tie strap that helps, but it feel flimsy and I am not sure how long it will last. One additional option that would make this a five star light for me would be if the battery could charge when the light was plugged in. In order to use this as a battery powered flood, you will need to buy both a Makita battery and charger. There are several other highly rated less expensive battery powered LED floodlights listed on Amazon, but if you are already in the Makita ecosystem, this is a solid (if not a little pricey) light and has served me well as I am working through a whole house renovation. ... show more

  • Very bright, not hot at all, very convenient.
Style: Light only
Fantastic lights, small, lightweight and plenty of output for most indoor work in a household size environment. I use these for apartment remodelling, should have bought 4 when they were only $75/ea. Bought two more even though the price has gone up to $95+. Instant on, multiple brightness settings and unlike the damn halogens I've been using for years they don't turn the bedroom you're painting into a sauna and burn you every third time you pick them up to move them. Also, since they're LEDs presumably I won't have to change the bulb in them ever, which is a big improvement over a couple times a year. Only complaint so far is that I've gotten used using the batteries to power these, and the cord handling isn't too good, so fairly often the cord ends up dragging on the ground and has to be re-wound. A minor issue though, overall my only real complaint is that I didn't buy these years ago. ... show more

  • Justifies the crazy high price
Style: Light only
This is great. You can plug it in or use on battery power. Doesn't charge the battery, but gives you a whole lot more running room and justifies the insanely high price. It gives you the ability to bring really decent light to anywhere for a long time. If you've ever tried painting or working in rooms with the power off, you know what a pain it can be to run extension cords. Being able to just pick up and move is great. It's Durable, have dropped it a couple times with no impact on performance. Try that with a Halogen light! Puts out a fantastic bright light, or a slightly dimmer light, great for not being blinded and draining the battery. Has an attachment to screw on to a standard light stand. The price is ridiculous. If you have the Makita tools though, you're probably used to paying a premium for nice tools that work with the same set of batteries. This is so versatile, it's hard not to get your money's worth even at this price ... show more
