This little thing is outstanding. It was purchased as a Christmas gift for my elderly parents after my mother talked longingly about being able to listen to CDs (they have accumulated a bunch over the years). My search for something that two people who find cell phones to be a challenge to operate was a lot harder than I expected, and I eventually found this little guy. My criteria was pretty easy: I needed something with physical, tactile buttons that were easy to see, a decent sound quality, and a small footprint for the amount of space they had. Setting it up out of the box was super simple, and I didn't even need to really open the manual. I had them playing a CD in about 5 minutes. The sound quality is very good for the size of the speakers, and really fills their cavernous living room with audio. Without jacking with the EQ settings, the bass response is decent and overall the balance of the EQ bands is stellar. The volume knob is hard to miss, and the physical controls are easy and logical to use. The only complaint I have is the length of the speaker cables that come with it, but whatever. As others have mentioned, the remote is unnecessarily complicated, so I ended up just hiding it in a drawer. I can not attest to the Bluetooth connectivity, since it is simply something that will never be used in this situation. A month later, and my mother has figured out how to listen to NPR on the radio, then switch back to listen to CDs (without a phone call to me!) and my father can't stop talking about how much joy this purchase has brought to them. Total win. If you are looking for a simple, economical cd player/radio with a small footprint, this is perfect. Just lose the remote.

I purchased this stereo for the dining room, I like to have soft classical music playing while cooking and having dinner. For the most part I stream music off of Utube utilizing the Bluetooth feature which works well. The remote comes in handy for muting commercials as well. I will also toss in a CD on occasion. The size and sound quality are both very good. The unit is pretty small and can be tucked away on a shelf in obscurity with the exception of the tractor beam being emitted from its face. And it sounds great, particularly for my situation where I am playing background music. I haven't experimented with higher volume. Great price too...

I can't believe what very good sound quality this stereo has for a price of around $55! Definitely a great buy. My only complaint is that the top of the CD is a bit flimsy (too thin plastic), and the remote control is so tiny that it's very easily lost (I've already lost it, but that's my fault, of course). However, if you do misplace the remote you can still access all the features on the stereo itself; in other words, the remote isn't necessary.

Being one of the most inexpensive "name brand" shelf units on here is sounds surprisingly well. It has decent bass "don't max out" and nice treble for what it is. My music is part of my daily therapy "some relaxing metal" to help me decompress so I am picky on what earbuds etc I use. I am not an audiophile by any stretch just like good music that sounds good. It can be use for you tv sound though cable adapters as I intend to do in the bedroom for a better watching experience. I definitely recommend if you are on a budget looking for value for money. If you are looking for high end sound buy higher end equipment just like anything. It's so funny how some people expect caviar on food stamps budget with coupons. Please temper your expectations as you get what you pay for and at a certain point there will be diminishing return for spending excessively.

I had high hopes for this attractive, compact CD player with an essential remote control. At this price, I was not expecting the sound quality of a more expensive system with larger, perhaps multiple speakers in each of the two speaker enclosures. The system was extremely simple to set up and compact enough to place in a convenient open bookcase across from my recliner. I was looking forward to relaxing to enjoyable music and easily adjusting volume and sound quality with the convenient remote. My first listening experience with the new system included learning the capabilities of the remote. That went well. Then I began to listen to a new CD with Roy Orbison and a full orchestra. I could not believe how dull and colorless the limited sound volume was. I assumed I had not utilized the remote adjustments properly and spent several minutes experimenting in order to obtain sound that I could actually listen to. Nothing I did came close to achieving my objective. I was extremely disappointed. As a check of my perceptions, I dug out an older Sony boombox and tried the same CD. The contrast was amazing, but not terribly surprising. Without any adjustments other than volume, the Sony sound was rich and pleasing at any volume level. The only thing missing was the important remote. That same Sony box is still available from Amazon, but no remote is available. I am about to box up the Magnavox and give it anonymously to anyone who wants it. The gift will be anonymous because I don't wish it to be associated with me when the new owner puts it to use the first time. Perhaps they will simply trash it.

The sound quality is great for CD playing. The bluetooth function has a hum. The radio function seems to require an antenna. A bit of static. Update: the player does not tell you what Track is playing. You have to move to the Track before or after to get this information, interrupting the music. This would be a minor annoyance, not worth mentioning, but for the fact I'm editing this review for another reason. The machine will read the lid as Open even when it's not. This can take a bit of gentle lid manipulation to get it to function. Not a huge deal except that it can start to read "Open" right in the middle of playing the CD, so that the music stops until you adjust the lid again. So, I would compare this contraption to a fun friend who is undependable: great when they show up, but just too flukey to have a good relationship with. Prepare to be aggravated if you buy this player.
